  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Jacob Kohn - Water Play Over the years, I have continued to explore and portray the beauty and sensuality of the natural world. I have returned time and again to the realism of nature as a subject because it provides me with a visual language that best expresses the abstract energy and emotional color that I find essential in my art. My primary visual interests are water and the phenomenal forms that reside upon and within the watery plane. I love the tension created by objects such as leaves and lily pads as they hug the surface. I am fascinated by complicated levels of space created by trees, reeds, and other plants reflected in the water from above, combined with vines, leaves, and fish as they loom just below the surface. There is a painterly quality to these constantly shifting forms that allows me to mix and blend an endless variety of invented colors that create rich and satisfying contrasts of pattern and hue. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I wish to communicate my love of place and season to my viewer. I sense that I am depicting subjects that are very familiar to my audience, calling them to witness the sublime effects...

Walther Von Krenner - Before I studied in Asia, Picasso and Gauguin had a great influence on my thinking. Later I admired the ideas and importance of Pollocks action painting. At this point in my journey Liu Kuo Sung, Chang Dai Chien, Fu Baoshi and Zao Wuki artists mostly unknown to the average Westener have had a great influence on my work. I am attempting to synthesize the style and spirit of their work into a new style with the same power, energy and feeling without copying their work or trying to repeat something that has been done already. I believe those artists are the rightful successors of the classic Chinese artists of earlier periods, while the mass of Chinese and Japanese artists have fallen into a endless cycle of repeating and copying the Paintings of the old masters without being able to catch the spirit and power of their role models. In general Chinese and Japanese traditional art has stopped to grow, change and adapt and therefore become lifeless and repetitive copying. The modern artists in those countries that broke loose from this traditionalism have become mere imitators of Western abstract movements like Picasso, Calder, Kline, Polock etc. and have nothing Chinese or ...

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf Dave Martsolf was born in 1949 in Kansas, moved to Western Pennsylvania in early childhood and at age 12 moved to New Hampshire where he resides today. Architectural instincts developed due to his close association with architecture in his youth. DaveaEURtms focus has been in visual arts his entire life. His style extends from realism to surrealistic to fantasy and abstraction. He was creator, owner and artistic director of Damsel Software Group in the 1990aEUR2s as a producer and manufacturer of original content screen savers. Today, Dave has returned to handmade art. He continues ...

Lauren Litwa - Each Painting starts with a Picture in my Mind, Daydream or Just Grows as I Draw onto the Paper, Canvas or Panel. I Stay Open to the Process and Let it Flow. Being Open and Allowing the Painting to take on a Life of its Own is where the Excitement and Energy comes in. Its Never Boring and Always Challenging. Its what makes Interesting and Exciting work. Nature Influences All. A Healthy Planet with Protected Wildlife is a Great Concern. Without that where would we All BE ...

Kathleen Flowers - As a multidisciplinary artist, Flowers' work is currently based on the idea of Design in Nature. Vladimir Volosov - I was born in 1937 in Leningrad, USSR (now St. Petersburg, Russia). My way to art was a lengthy one. Before becoming an artist, I studied for thirty years at the forefront of modern physics as a PhD scientist and professor, author more than 150 scientific articles in contemporary laser physics. Thirty years of strenuous scientific work on the front edge of modern physics gives me a deep feeling for the anxiety and unprotectedness of the world's beauty. The formula, "beauty saves the world" fits my own attitude. My creed is also embodied in the statement: "to have time to realize everything given to you by Nature." At the threshold of my fifties, I decided to live one more life, a new, alluring life of the free artist. I walked away from my established scientific career and completely devoted myself to painting. In 1991 I founded and headed the association "Light, Color and Art" to connect with scientists engaged in the arts. The main directions of my paintings are lyrical realism and abstract compositions. My paintings are about light, color, atmosphere and space. For me, the most important elements are light and color and their juxtaposition/nexus/meeting of...

Wojtek Kowalski - I am a self-taught person. ... My paintings rise from an internal need. I find inspiration in peace and quiet , by observing nature and people. My works show my own vision of the world. By using colours and simple forms I convey feelings and emotions as well as dreams and fantasies. Ideas spring to my mind when nothing happens around me. I am guided by my own sense of beauty and aesthetics. ...
