  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Suzanne Delorme - By cultivating my passion for painting and image transformation, I understood clearly that I use the act, of expressing myself, as a tool to communicate with my subconscious. This connection allows me to better perceive and deal with my feelings and existence as a humanistic person. My paintings and images allow me to better comprehend my own corporal, intellectual, environmental and sentimental complexities. Their subjects allow me to express my point of view of global issues by spontaneously illustrating acts, roles and scenes, in my paintings and images. The imaginary creatures that emerge from the deepest of my creativity demand to be valued and accepted in this world. ...

Maja Djokic Mihajlovic - Maja AokiA++ MihajloviA++ is an Academic , award- winning painter , full-time professional artist . Her work is widely collected both nationally and internationally and may be found in numerous private and corporate collections all around the world. Maja AokiA++ MihajloviA++,born in Belgrade in December 1971.,graduated from The Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade,Painting Department,in the class of professor Milica StevanoviA++.She completed her postgraduate studies, with the same professor as her mentor,in 1999. She has been a member of the ULUS since 1997., and obtained the status of the independent artist in 2000. -Seventeen individual exhibitions. -Participated in more than hundred group exhibitions in our country and around,as well as activities of a number of painting colonies. -Five prizes for painting. ...

Wojtek Kowalski - I am a self-taught person. ... My paintings rise from an internal need. I find inspiration in peace and quiet , by observing nature and people. My works show my own vision of the world. By using colours and simple forms I convey feelings and emotions as well as dreams and fantasies. Ideas spring to my mind when nothing happens around me. I am guided by my own sense of beauty and aesthetics. ...

Thor-Leif Strindberg - During the last years, I have moved more and more towards the abstract art. When searching for new roads in a strange territory, you always make new discoveries, and I have found a mode of expression that enables me to tell the observer a lot more than by depicting nature and the human form. A distinct, detailed subject can easily become an obstacle to communication by prevailing in the eyes of the beholder. In my abstract paintings I can transform thoughts and impressions directly into colors and shades, textures and brush strokes, like grooves on an old record. Neither do the paintings carry any titles, since I believe that this might limit the experience, because the beholder would consciously or unconsciously look for definite, well known shapes in the picture. So when something is depicted in my paintings, it is always something very simple. Like bowls. And cups. And plates. Plain and ordinary things that we all recognize - things that can easily give up their natural roles as utility goods and turn into picture elements with a new purpose and function as carriers and conveyors of memories, dreams, feelings. People often ask me about the texts in my paintings. The ...

Katalin Luczay - Painting to me is an expression, interpretation, and appreciation of the world around me. In my opinion any art should inspire and elevate the human spirit. These types of art works are immortal, such as the works of the old masters. In my paintings I strive to achieve these ideals. I would describe my works as related as representational realism. In my seascapes I bring many different colors together to illustrate the movement of water. In my landscapes and still life works I like to emphasize the play of light as it hits a focal point. I like to paint in oil because I can achieve this sense of light and motion by glazing over layers, as well as in oil I can achieve a richness that I find limiting in other mediums. Please see my website at

Mijal Zachs - My work is a tautological investigation on painting. I started it while reflecting on the representation and simulation of reality, transforming the pictorical realm with the strategies of camuflage. Here, painting is not part of the context, but it's rather created as the support and is mediated by the interlocutor aEUR" the observer. The painting moves seducing the canvas and, as it advances, it copies itself in a mimetic manner and it represents itself as if it were a reflection. The mirror reproduces in a game of viewing, pretending to see itself but being someone else; a subtle vail that faces its condition of mask, guiding us towards reality....or maybe not. Through this investigation I have found different surroundings: from fabrics with given patterns, to tapistries, papers and woods. All of them have relinquished to me their condition and I have established with them a dialogue. The painting, loyal to its author, creates new strategies as it progresses and it developes through roads that intersect with each other and deliniate new trails. Its discourse moves forward with the aEURoeIaEUR being aEURoethe other.aEUR When I intervene without hiding the fabric's pattern, I develope an equilibrium that creates the ilusion ...

Barry Scharf - My professional career began in 1973 when I earned my MFA. In my early works I felt my paintings where an illusion and only seemed to partially fulfill my desire for a more complete expression. Now my works explore the interplay of transitional reality and abstract concepts in oil on canvas and digital photography. It is provocative to me to express myself through physical, intellectual, and spiritual endeavors . My art offers me the forum for this expression. The viscosity of paint gives scale, while it's liquid flow carries the emotions of a poetic heart. The formation of shapes into composition express a thoughtful logic and the unity of all elements breaths life into the spirit of the work. In addition explored shapes and content fits with my digital images. Pursuit of excellence in design, craftsmanship and expression are my artistic goals. To create images that provoke thought and communicate our connection with nature, spirit, self and each other. ...

Terri Cabral - Artists Statement I am a painter of people, animals and the natural world. I strive in my painting to reveal the unique essence of each of my subjects through the distillation of light and color into recognizable form and substance. I continue to be greatly influenced by my uncle, Cuban Vanguardia painter Antonio Gattorno. He was known for his versatility and his ability to paint masterfully in a variety of styles. I am constantly experimenting with styles and developing my sense of versatility. ...
