Mary Zeman - in 1997, I began to paint after I had brain surgery to remove a benign brain tumor from the right side of my brain. I was recovering from surgery, and out of the blue, I called my mom and asked her to take me to buy some paint and brushes. This was the first time I ever painted in my life. While I was growing up, I was never exposed to art and just didnt know anything about it, though I had always wanted to learn more. I began painting on wood, paper, newspaper, anything I could find, then I started to paint on canvas. When I went back to my job in television, people looked at my art on the walls of my cubicle, and some people encouraged me to go further with it. I would work all day, then come home and paint at night, and looked forward to the time I would be painting. In October of 2000, I decided to leave my job and make a go of being a full-time artist. Everyday, I learn something new about art, and I love making art. The biggest compliment I can get is when adults look at ...
Christine Alfery - My current thinking seems to be asking the age old question what is art Well - dont know why I say my current thinking - I have been asking that question ever since post modernism and all its relativity. Not only has art become part of the postmodern movement it has also become less precious because it seems everyone accepts the comments anyone can make art and its all about your own personal interpretation or how one sees things. I believe art, aesthetics, are all about personal interpretation. That does not make art relative and subjective. How can I say that Everyone is unique, all aEURoeartaEUR is unique. If an object is not unique, original, one of a kind, then it isnaEURtmt art. The idea, the concept, their uniqueness is art. Just like one person is unique to themselves, to their own individuality, aEURoeartaEUR is unique to itself and itaEURtms own individuality. It does not depend on collective thinking. NOT everyoneaEURtms ideas, concepts are art. Not every individual is an artist. They may create something that looks like art, it has a frame, it is in a gallery, the person who made it called themselves artists and their work ...
Katie Pfeiffer - My goal or artistic process is to examine personal relationships and feelings in a humorous way using a multitude of imagery from everywhere. I like to mix up my drawing and paintings with found imagery to create something new. I look to imagery made for children ( especially school primers from the 50s and 60s) as well as stickers to express my naive and child like look at "Adult" subjects. Exploring mysteries of my own desires as well as comment on the stereotypes which exist in female and male relationships. I want my art to envelope the viewer with color, humor and feeling. In the past few years I have started to explore the relationship of light and dark and the association with positive and negative emotions as well as make several collections of "ugly" paintings with text which explore my personal relationship with men, family and people in my life. All my art is original and I do not list prints or copies of my work. Most of my paintings are done in inks or acrylics. ...

Marybeth Drake - I make my art from dreams( including daydreams),wordplay, and visions. I prefer 3-dimensional assemblage pieces and collect man-made and natural materials, junk, and even furniture everywhere I go. I like making art from recylced and cast off items. I am a true pack rat. Recently I picked up an old skill--sewing--and have started designing some funky dresses made of combined fabrics and trims from vintage and gently used clothing. I love the stalwart spirits of trees through all seasons. I enjoy making sculpture and collage that gives trees personality with facial expressions and gestures. When people tell me they love my work, I say it isn't work,it is play. I teach writing classes and try to bring my creativity to class to inspire students to think outside their personal boxes....

Helene Deroubaix - I am a poetic and philosophical mixed media artist from France. My artist's path began with poetry and my adoration for words and literature and when my depression was too hard to handle and I couldn't write I had to find another way to pour my soul and speak that inner screaming silence. People often told me I was too scattered because I could not choose one way, one passion but I have been told at school that subjects should be mixed and helped each other, everything could be entertwined...So I still haven't chosen and I still love both of these passions and it resonates into my work. The landscapes of my collages are like an antique wonderland, but I am a realistic dreamer. I am inspired by hinduism and buddhism & I don't give in to death which is why I try to bring vintage people back to life in my art....
Kelly Blue - My name is Kelly Blue, I have been Painting since 1990 when I learned of a 6 year old girl whose blobs of finger paint won her a M.M.O.M.A. art contest. What started out as a kitschy, tongue in cheek venture soon evolved into one of the great loves of my life. I had always been an admirer of great Art but once my hands were covered in paint and my lungs filled with turpentine, I was hooked. My work grew into an avenue to attempt to express Buddhist concepts, koans, and the formless form. Even though I am a jaded 43 year old, I still cling to the idea that one person can change the world and I hope that my works will be a launching point to convey concepts for a Taoist world peace. My work, if layed end to end, could serve as a representation of the endless river of life, the universal stream of consciousness and Ananda. Currently I study Art Education at S.O.S.U. and plan on getting my M.F.A. before becoming an Art Professor. For 20 years I produced what is termed, "outsider" art and being ...
