Artists Describing Their Art:
Denise Dalzell - Painting. Illustration. Expressionism. Pop Art. Modern. Realism and, occasionally, a bit of Abstraction. My current work centers on my consideration of how we respond to each other, the stories that develop between us and around us, and how our collective stories reflect on and influence us individually. How our stories bounce off each other and combine to create new stories. My paintings are illustrations of the scenes that I encounter during my travels abroad and in daily life so, some scenes are more sweeping than others. How do we, as people of differing backgrounds, cultures, and experiences interact with each other Are we different people in a crowd than when alone How do we fit in or stand out where we find ourselves at any given moment, in any given story Stories are everywhere, and thereaEURtms no predicting what theyaEURtmll reveal. Body language, movement, color, contrast combine to illustrate my scenes of interaction between people and within environments. The excitement of being a part of something as unifying as a protest, the sense of adventure that comes from starting out with no particular destination, intimate moments with those we love and those we discover in the big events...

Tom Lund-Lack - I am an experienced artist whose work uses the power of imagination to find find the essence of the subject.A It is grounded in the need to celebrate life, and to portray the subject through the transforming power of colour and light. Arrangements of shape, line, pattern and colour are brilliant at conjuringA up powerful expressions, sometimes these can be dreamlike and at peace sometimes exciting and dramatic. My work does not always represent an actual moment, place or object in time, but they areA the result of a process of reflection, recollection and reinvention, a distillation of experience. Art is a very small word having the widest possible meaning appreciation is a subjective judgement and no artist or workA can please everyone.A My aim is to please at least some of you and I am very confident that this aspiration is achievable ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Jean Claude - The French physicist, Joseph Nicephore Niepce, made the first negative on paper in 1816 and the first known photograph on metal that he called an heliograph in 1826. After 1826 there is no place for figurative art ! I am a french born self taught american artist with an eye open on the past (Nicolas de Stael) and the new South Western and South-American painters. For me painting is almost always ABSTRACT ! I create CHAOS and there after I organize the CHAOS ! Mixing the right colors in the right SPACE ! If I do something that looks figurative; it's caricature! Myself looking like Mussolini or the black Ava Gardner ! rests and inspires me... I have always been a ravenous reader in both French and English, and my bookshelves are filled with the works of Updike, Bellow, Henry Miller, Nabokov, Sade, Proust, Celine, Queneau, Boris Vian, among many others. Still a cinephile, I go to the films of Lang, Minnelli, Preminger, Delmer Daves, Godard, Truffaut time and time again. Music always fills my house, whether it be classical (Richard Strauss, Berg, Martinu, Janacek, Debussy), Jazz (Coltrane, Mingus, Miles Davis, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, Albert Ayler, Eric Dolphy), or ...
Monica Malbeck - I was born and raised in Romania, attending art school there. I graduated in 1974 from a highly successful art pilot program at age 18. Where I was offered exposure to all facets of art from visual communications to industrial design. This was followed by a successful career in fashion design with clients throughout Europe, U.S., and Japan. In 1990 I moved to the United States, and in 1996 I was introduced to digital media falling in love instantly with its versatility. I have been exploring digital design since then, trying to mix digital color and the illusions of texture and shape to capture fleeting, momentary thoughts and my feelings. My style varies depending on the subject being captured, as I always try to let the subject dictate the style rather than try to impose a repetitive style format. I have retired to Hawaii very early from a career as a fashion consultant, and decided to focus on art. My very first submission of my artwork to an international competition in Italy, was chosen among the finalists. I am a self-taught digital artist, and I like to explore a broad range of subjects. In my gallery you will...

Grace Liberator - Grace Liberator was born and raised in New England. After traveling and working in Europe she settled back on the East Coast. She continually develops her style and technique switching between the more direct to the abstract, at times studying at the Art Students League. She often uses personal photography to help capture the essence of the natural world. She also uses the emotional experience to capture the inner human spirit in her portraiture through both traditional and surreal imaging. All artworks
Tricia Jensen - Tricia's passion comes alive when her art takes on a life of its own. Her love for painting and photography are often blended in her work. She constructs her work by combining paint with other materials. With a background in carpentry and photography her unique style of art often blends mediums ranging from concrete, plaster, metal, photographs, caulking, and resin just to name a few. More than anything, Tricia wants her artwork to represent a uniqueness that is also found in people; layers and depth. The human spirit, balance and nature inspire her life and art. ...
Paul Burnham - These samples can be considered an alternative to all of the other visual aspects of the physical universe. Furthermore, there are numerous other examples of this anomaly available by request, and many of these can be purchased in their original form from Paul Burnham upon contact. Paul has reached a point where it is imperative to continue allowing these images to enter the wavebands of light percieved by the physical being's sensory functions, such as eyes. ...
Sandra Bray - When I decided to create artworks on the theme of global peace and dialogue for an exhibition in Turkey, I was launched from painting landscapes into a new world. After a month of sketchbook work and research, black and white seemed the obvious and only choice for these images, so I reluctantly gave up my sumptuous oil paints. Two concerns with working in b/w presented themselves: firstly, I find b/w rather stark and cold; additionally, I don't like framing that separates the viewer and the work, with glass. Drawing on unprimed canvas solved both of these issues as raw canvas was a warm-sepia in tone and didn't require glass. After years of oil painting, I can achieve a sense of form in my work. However, my drawing work has had a flat quality with which I wanted to experiment. The technical issue of achieving structure became my goal in what had now become a series in my mind. Books have a simple structure that can be manipulated and were the perfect objects to work while developing form. As the days of thought and scribbled sketches passed, the next consideration grew: what message do I want ...
