  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Hope Brooks - I am often asked the question what is my work about which is a little like being asked what is life about because in art as in life each person must bring their own experience and provide their own answers. Quite simply my work is about life and the enigma that surrounds existence. I make reference to specific experiences or draw on visual reality to act as a frame to the broader content and people bring their own interpretations as well. When I began painting in the 60's I was focused on talking about natural phenomena that I found around me in Jamaica, such as the sea, the mountains, or the moon but I was also trying to find a language that expressed the essence of that place I called home. In 1980 I travelled to Baltimore USA and my visual surroundings changed completely. This city had none of the natural landscape but it had beautiful stained glass windows and during my year at the Maryland Institute I produced a large body of work called "Windows". This included prints as well as paintings of the secular as well as the ecclesiastical windows. Someone looking at the work once said ...

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity, and have recently teamed with SAVE THE BAY, a local Rhode Island eco-advocate organization, which receives 30 PER CENT of my proceeds. My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. Ive done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorenas studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to ...

Nancy Bechtol - Artists explore and give the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Reflection of human and societal concerns which cross emotional boundaries-- communicating that which is unspoken. My traditional art foundations of drawing, painting and printmaking, evolved into video, digital photography and experimental media. I use digital photography and imaging to envision the concepts originating from the creative pulse. An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. Vincenzo Montella - Vincenzo Montella was born in Benevento, Italy the 7/14/1952 and lives in Naples where works as psychiatrist. He is graduated in Medicine and Philosophy and specialist in psychiatry and family psychotherapy. He is artist, poet and photographer. He studied photography at the Toscana Photographic Workshops attending courses of William Allard, Michael Yamashita, Machiel Botman, Alex Webb, Jeff Jacobson, Arkady Llove, Sarah Moon, Carol Dragon. ...

Heather Hyatt - In my work as a fine artist, I use the mediums of graphite, coloured pencil and oil, in the styles realism, photo-realism, trompe l'oeil and portraiture, Ideas come from literature, metaphors, and the real world. Rather than the imitation of appearance, my concern is with the essence of the subject. In trompe l'oeil, it is the hardness and softness of guns and lingerie, which, when mounted in shadow boxes, become real. In the series,'Dante's Divine Comedy', executed in graphite, the object was to depict the universality of his ideas as they appear today. In all of my work, realism is my focus and goal. ...

Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...

Harry Weisburd - Harry Weisburd is an Internationally Represented Artist, including, USA, Expressions Gallery, Berkeley, California,

Lora Vannoord - I am a Florida Artist originally from a small town in Michigan, now painting in Florida. My works are original oil paintings inspired by Mother Nature. I want to communicate my love of nature to help others see and appreciate the natural environment around them. My goal is to give others a calming and imaginative experience in their homes when they contemplate my oil paintings. I enjoy the creative composing of my landscapes using my store of images and my imagination. I combine my sketchbook images and photos to form my imaginary landscape. I then feel excited and fulfilled when my work goes well. Even as a child my happiest times were when I was creating art or attending art activities and museums. I am a member of the Tarpon Springs Art Association, the Creative Artists Guild, and NOAPS. I have been chosen to show my original oil paintings in many of their juried exhibits. I have had solo exhibits in Grand Rapids MI, Dunedin FL, Oldsmar FL and Tarpon Springs FL.. I have shown oil paintings in group exhibits in Clearwater FL, Crystal Beach FL, Tarpon Springs FL, Oldsmar FL, Dunedin FL, Sarasota FL, Safety Harbor FL, Tampa FL...

Maciej Hoffman - First there is always a concept, an idea. Sometimes, I have an impression that the painting is painting itself, an intuition is guiding me while painting. The subjects which interest me result from my experience, from everyday life, from the everyday problems, and the issues that puzzle us throughout the years, forming our way of looking at the world, changing us. My observations are directed to catch the moments of tension, drama, and the clashes in the everyday life. I am formally interested in contrasts of textures, colors and the means of presentation. Sometimes, one line or one spot influences the entire painting. If there is no feeling of suspense, it means that it is not done yet. I like to work at a fast rate, I paint as if I were throwing out of me a painting hidden inside. In painting, I appreciate the courage of opinion and the freedom in the means of expression. I do not like decorativeness and submission to trends or fashion. I do not place emphasis on means of expression or artistic techniques &...

Roz Zinns - Roz Zinns has been involved in art for the last 40 years, from oil painting to weaving to contemporary art quilts. Her work has been displayed nationally and has been reproduced in US and international publications. She majored in Arts Administration and owned a San Francisco gallery specializing in original art and quality artisan crafts. Recently she has come full-circle, back to painting, and is enjoying the creativity and challenge of working in acrylics and water-immersible oils She has always had a love of the land which is evident in her work. Although she is currently focusing on landscapes, she is finding that the compositional element of land in an urban environment has become a fascinating study for her. She also loves to travel and has been interpreting her images on to canvas. She has observed that over the years many of the places she has painted either don't exist anymore or have changed drastically in their usage or appearance. So how wonderful to have captured them as they existed, but with her own interpretation....

Manuela Facchin Varalda - Why painting? For the desire of a deep knowledge of things. Painting, for me, is not only communication, but almost an additional sense, a further perception of world, of the real and of the imaginary, of the material and of the dream, of the objective and of the individual. Painting is for me the place of the revelation, of the primary reflection. As a self taught artist, I have been painting and drawing since I can remember - this is a part of me. I have discovered that Art Wanted is the opportunity to share this part with somebody else, from all over the world, trying to understand, to give a sense to our imagination and needs. Manuela...

Shoshannah Brombacher - Art makes the world within the artist visible. Classical music, poetry, Jewish and Chassidic stories, traveling, the love for people and memories of eras gone but not forgotten, cities where I lived and worked, like Amsterdam, Berlin, Jerusalem, New York, or visitedm, lie Prague and Sicily, are the main ingredients of my art. My art is like the water of the canals of my native Amsterdam, Rembrandts city, the deeper you look into it, the more you see. A reflection of a reflection of a reflection...look, what you see is not what you see. My art contains texts and letters, lets writing come alive, and reflects my deep connection with the Dutch 17th century Masters, German expressionism, Russian art and medieval miniatures. My art is also a tribute to music and the world of the great Chassidic masters of Eastern Europe. The Kotzker Rebbe listened to a Chassidic storyteller in the street and stated He told what he wanted and I heard what I needed. That is Art. ...

Josephine Roberte - My creative process is full of passion and discovery. I become totally absorbed and only myself and the subject exist for I am in a meditative state. I paint, however, I do prefer photography as a medium as it suits my spontaneous nature. The lens captures the moment with exquisite precision that cannot be easily recaptured again. I am more interested in the concept and the impact of the image which gives the image more integrity and close to the original. To manipulate and enhance the image after its been taken does not excite me as much as capturing that magical moment. When I set up and arrange the scene I am consumed with styling, decorating and embellishing the subject. I see the human form as sculpture which extends to packaging, interiors and architecture. I am fascinated by the eccentric the marginal the most glamorous and the neglected bringing out their inner beauty, dignity and their story. The collaborative process creates a comfortable environment which in turn makes my models feel at ease and supportive of their particular wishes and needs. My models often make comments that they feel relaxed, liberated and empowered....
