Artists Describing Their Art:

Anca Stefanescu - I was always in searching for something... was it identity... And it is not only my quest. The need for belonging We belong to a country, a culture, a family, a childaEUR| a man or a woman We belong to a GodaEUR| To somewhat or someone. Races, religions, countries and their boundaries. I donaEURtmt believe in boundaries, they are only in our minds. I believe in people. In what connects us and puts us apart from each other. In what we learn from each encounter, from each illusive separationaEUR| But always in searching for meeting the higher self, to be yourself... and yet to discover and recognize you are one with all the others. IaEURtmve drawn and painted my whole life, itaEURtms what kept me into alignment, dreaming or feelingaEUR| more into the now. I was born in Bucharest and I grew up in VAfdastra Olt county in the air of middle Neolithic, in between pieces of ceramics that were thousands of years old. I treasured each piece of painted pottery as if it was the keeper of my ancient memory and also a reminder that the time is just a concept. I felt connected my ...

Marcelo Maia - Since 1991 I have used photography as the vehicle for discourses on sexuality. Beginning with the sex and money project, the metaphoric images of gogo dancers with cash belts were used to posit a bridge between the viewer, the concept of sexuality and it's relation to money. Next in the book Prometheus, the topic transposes to sexuality and racism. I redirect the Greek myth of the creation of man from the Caucasus to his known anthropological origins in Africa. By producing sensuous portraits of African-American men, I aimed to modulate the cultural image of both God and creation from the white marble to the black skin. The trilogy on sexuality will close with a book on the topic of Sex and Power which I'm working on. Certain that if art has the power to liberate people of their prejudices, I believe that self-awareness requires the analysis of sexuality. Sex has to be understood and not just looked at as tabu material or as a commodity , objectified and but not really discussed. It's time to grow up, to be able to talk openly about ourselves without fear of being labeled and dismissed. Lately I've been ...

Dave Martsolf - Dave Martsolf I have a hand-drawing personal style that I love, but also use photorealistic collage style for some surreal work. In addition, I continue to enjoy explorations in every direction. My surreal visionary style is conceived in the bowels of endless empty space. Worlds come out of nowhere to define and fill empty space with form and reflected light. I use posed photographs with specific viewpoints that join seamlessly with other images to develop a hallucinogenic, some say gut-wrenching realistic space where mind-bending visions rule. My personal drawing style is in its simplest essence the line the drawn line and what it represented as the delineation of a form, a space, almost the way a topographical line feels out the form of a hill, or the way a blind man feels out the tender forms of his or her lover. That line is also the signature of the vibration of life and lifes emotions, twisted by the influence of others, fighting for a day in the sun, learning the way of calm, the mastery of the surf of life and the swell of love and anger. Brownian motion, cosmic ray decay, elemental particles, the paths of ...

Marsha Bowers - Marsha Bowers was born and raised in the Central Valley of California. She is a classically trained fine artist, skilled in the old Masters techniques of Flemish/Bistre and Venetian method using a grisaille underpainting and glazing with many layers. Most of her fine art paintings are rendered in oil. She sometimes applies real gold leaf into the artworks. Marsha finds inspiration in the old masters of the past. She spends many hours visiting Museums studying their work. Gothic and Renaissance are her favorite periods along with the Pre-Raphaelites artists. The artist loves the blending of the classical painting techniques with a more contemporary approach to her paintings. Her recent fine art paintings are of women, both figurative and portraiture. The inspiration for her paintings comes from her observations of life itself and through her own experiences. Each painting shares a message, story or emotion. Its what the artist herself describes as a "flowing" of the spirit, a creative process through which the artist paints a story unto the canvas, realizing that each viewer of her work may have their own interpretation of what the art is conveying. Most recently Marsha was invited to be included into the International ...
