Artists Describing Their Art:

Berit Nelson - My art reflects me; my ideas, my thoughts and my innermost struggles. As I go forth in life, I find inspiration everywhere.....in people, in places, in objects, but mostly in myself. What begins as an idea eventually grows into art, however I have discovered over the years that it is the process of getting there that I enjoy the most! My photography on the other hand, is another story. I enjoy taking pictures immensely and I have a good eye for it, and my real inspiration comes from that and that alone. I like seeing the final prints and remembering the journey I got to go on to get them! Sometimes the journey takes me far from home and other times I barely get out of the door but no matter where I end up, I usually find something beautiful to take a picture of!...

Kimberly D. Fisk - Kimberly D. Fisk Artistic Statement 2003 I began drawing as a child. Since then many subjects have found their way into my sketch book, but I have found no work as interesting or satisfying than the portrayal of the human form. This for me is a subject with fascination that never fades. I marvel in the work of The Victorian, Romantic and Pre Raphaelite Artists. Their study of nature and the human figure. In the past two years my painting has undergone some major changes and what I perceive as very significant growth. I have changed my working medium from acrylics and undergone the study of oils. Another main objective has been to acquire the knowledge I need to be able to build my own canvases, making sure they are archival and made with sound craftsmanship. These principles of Art such as skill and masterful execution seem to have been somewhat abandoned by many artist of today. I have been studying the techniques and philosophies of primarily the Pre Raphaelite Artists such as Millet, Rosetti and Hunt. Study in these areas has been under the guidance of my colleague, a Romantic Realist painter based in Salt Lake City, Damon A....

Frank Shifreen - My art is about the power of the image to bypass the limitations of the self, controlled through language and its paradigms. The image is a life raft. The connection of the seer to the seen is the same as self to other , or me to you. Images, whether they be paintings, digital works or videos are gestalts, and embody identity. My art is about figure and ground that is transformed in many ways- materials, subject and meaning. I am a situationist and believe that art can create new paradigms for the future. It is a protected frame of content that can carry meaning, experimental ideas and projections. I have been a painter and sculptor, and still work in those media, but my primary form is now digital art and video, or hybrid combination. Besides being an artist, I have curated and organized many exhibitions, in New York. The Monumental Shows, Terminal Show (Co-curator), Pan Arts, Plexus. Recently curated "From the Ashes" 911 Memorials and "Ground Zero" at the Detroit Museum of New Art, and Freyberger Gallery - Penn State Berks Campus I am a Doctoral Candidate in Art and Art Education at Columbia University Teachers College...

Joanne Mac - J.Mac The" Found object Composed" of surrealist theory meets a vigorously tempered treatment at the hands of J.Mac. While her cognizance of "what the contemporary art world was rebelling against and inventing for itself" fuels her view of the extant condition of culture with sardonically cutting and amusing wit J.Mac's appreciation for the traditional lines of classic beauty salves her edges with a relief of grace - Justice tempered with mercy. "I use my talents to reflect what I see in the world around me; whether it be politics of living, or the social ramifications of our environment, or the humor I observe in our human frailties. I translate my theories into the plastic and figurative sculptural form " - Excerpts from "New Art International" Volume IV, Published in U.S.A, New York by Book Art Press, Ltd 1998 ...

Ulrich Osterloh - Born in Germany in 1969, I am an artist with a BA hons degree in Fine Art from the University of London, Goldsmiths College. I lived in London for many years 1988-2005, and am nowadays based in the Cologne Dusseldorf region of Germany. Originally a painter, for the last four years I have been focusing mainly on photography and digital experimentation. Ulrich Osterloh ...

Neil Loewen - Form, movement and colour fascinate me. I view life holistically, take pleasure in variegated meaning and context as means to transcend realistic representation into the world of spirit, ideas and values. I hope to engage the viewer long enough to look beyond the surface of my last layer of paint, into a realm of contemplation where together we can interface with the voice of creative consciousness. ...

Elra Norris-Gattermeir - I have been taking photos since I was a kid and have lived in and photographed the wonders of 17 of the states of the US. For more than 30 years I have pursued a love of nature, trees, and flowers, capturing that love on film. In 1999 I opened up shop as ELphotos to sell decor and stock photography (for promotional and editorial use). I also design note cards from my photos as well as make key chains, magnets, gift inserts and bookmarks of my favorite images. Until December 2003, I lived with my sister (Sally), two parrots (Falco and Faun), an iguana (Clarence) and two 3-foot ragdolls (Frank and Rich) whose tiny possessions littered the entire house. That conglomeration made a bevy of photographic subjects if I didn't have a mind to step into the outdoors. I am now married and reside in Illinois, just south of Chicago. I use my Nikon and a Canon digital camera to relax and wind down from the day's strife and, hopefully I can snap some pictures others will enjoy. I am a member in good standing of Tri-State Arts Association, Professional Photographers of West Virginia, the International ...
