Artists Describing Their Art:

Karen Green - I studied at Leicester De Montfort College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Textile Art and went onto complete a PGCE teaching qualification. I decided to leave my career teaching for an educational charity to explore my artistic ambitions and become a fulltime artist. I have shown work in many successful solo, group and open exhibitions. I am passionate about my art, and love getting lost in the moment when painting and the creative release it gives me. My work is mainly rooted in the British landscape, an ideal base for my impressions of a variety of locations including beaches, lakes, busy harbours and mountain ranges. I also draw inspiration from dramatic cliffs and coastline which provide me with a rich source of material. My painting is constantly evolving, experimenting with different techniques, ultimately aiming to capture light and atmosphere, the power and beauty of all nature and its creations. My main objective is to capture the mood and spirit of a place. ...

Tom Lund-Lack - Tom Lund-Lack is a self-taught painter whose work uses the power of imagination to seek out the core elements of the subjects he paints. His work is grounded in the need to celebrate life, and to express our sense of existence through the recognition of the transforming power of colour and light. Arrangements of shape, line, pattern and colour conjure up powerful expressions, sometimes dreamlike and at peace sometimes exciting and dramatic. The pieces do not always represent an actual moment in time, but are rather the result of a process of reflection, recollection and reinvention, a distillation of his experiences. ...

Randy Sprout - I grew up in a small town in Northern Iowa, played football, coached the swimming team, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a BA in printmaking studying under Mauricio Lasansky. I then went into the Army and ended up pulling 13 months in Korea on the DMZ. Coming out of Korea I entered UCLA and earned a MA and MFA in printmaking while studying under Jan Stussy and Stanton Mac-Donald Wright. The next year after the funds dried up on my Fulbright Award to Portugal, because of the Angola War, I was lucky to get hired by USC where I taught printmaking as a junior faculty member. I also replaced professors at UCLA when they went on sabaticals, and taught one year at Pierce College. In 1977 I tried Real Estate, you know just for the summer, but by fall I had purchased Century 21 Hollywood Inc. and had a new vocation going. Now 31 years into real estate, I'm coming full circle and starting to paint little quick studies 9X12. I'm using just 1/2 inch brushes and 5 colors. I intentionally limit my time to 2 hours after which I stop and throw ...

David Larkins - I've always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting - to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as "Abstract Realism" and my strength is found in the composition. I'm drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary - to meld the "real" world with the "abstract". ...

Herbert Boettcher - Herbert Boettcher was born in Rietberg in 1962. The graduate designer lives in Duesseldorf and has been working as a freelance photographer since 1993. Herberts work focuses on the conception and realisation of photo projects for companies, exhibitions and publications. His cooperation partners include well-known companies and associations from Germany and abroad. From 1988 to 1993 he studied visual communication in the faculty of photofilm-design at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. From 1995 to 1999 he taught in the faculty of art at the University of Paderborn. Herberts works illustrate his photographic attitude, are based on his very individual photographic language and always follow a consistent concept....

Marthie Potgieter - The simplicity of the West Coast, in particular the Fishermans villages, has always been charming and romantic to me. Through my paintings I try to preserve that nostalgic and picturesque scenes thats fast disappearing through commercialization. I am touched by the suffering of the local fishermen. Commercialization did not bring them prosperity. The lonely man walking uphill, carrying his catch of the day, not being able to sell it, and has to take it home, again, at least his family will eat tonight. I was born 17 May 1967 in Krugersdorp. After school I studied to become a nurse, as I always had a passion for people. After I raised my children, we relocated Melkbossrand, Western Cape. I always wanted to paint and I started in 2014 with Louis Pretorius for tutoring, but I am mainly self-taught. I love the West Coast and is inspired by the moods of the sea. I believe painting is silent poetry. ...

John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Valerie Leri - A strong element throughout my work, is light - both physical and spiritual - through a combination of realism and abstract. My mission is to capture a sense of spontaneity, tranquility, andor movement and energy through the interaction of colors and shapes. I paint with acrylics. Some of my work is interwoven with elements from nature such as bark, sand, stones, shells creating a partiuclar mood and giving the painting three dimensions. I work more by feeling than technique, letting the painting in a sense create iself with myself as a conduit to the visual message, thus the end result is more about flow than form. To a limited extent I strive for effect but most often my efforts are toward lifting the veils of illusion to reveal the truth. There is no right way to interpret my art. All of my work is inspired by the need to create exhilaration, inner joy and peace, both for myself and the view. Ultimately my art is an invitation to dream....

Thor-Leif Strindberg - During the last years, I have moved more and more towards the abstract art. When searching for new roads in a strange territory, you always make new discoveries, and I have found a mode of expression that enables me to tell the observer a lot more than by depicting nature and the human form. A distinct, detailed subject can easily become an obstacle to communication by prevailing in the eyes of the beholder. In my abstract paintings I can transform thoughts and impressions directly into colors and shades, textures and brush strokes, like grooves on an old record. Neither do the paintings carry any titles, since I believe that this might limit the experience, because the beholder would consciously or unconsciously look for definite, well known shapes in the picture. So when something is depicted in my paintings, it is always something very simple. Like bowls. And cups. And plates. Plain and ordinary things that we all recognize - things that can easily give up their natural roles as utility goods and turn into picture elements with a new purpose and function as carriers and conveyors of memories, dreams, feelings. People often ask me about the texts in my paintings. The ...

Cindy Pinnock - Artist Statement My heart goes into all that I do whether it be from cooking gourmet dishes, to 3 dimensional art works that adorn my home or to my warm embracing landscaping that surrounds my house for guests. My passion for expressing my emotions onto a blank canvas started shortly after high school and was fine-tuned with college and private classes. However, I must admit that truly being a part of nature and experiencing the great outdoors in our beautiful state have greatly deepened my passion for wildlife and nature in my work. As my tastes matured, I ventured into many different mediums such concrete, mosaic, and pencil just to name a few. Most recently, oil painting has consumed my passion for the brilliance of color and the ability of combining different techniques of brush and abstract impressionistic strokes by hand. The way I look at ordinary objects in our daily lives and make them more unique sets me apart from other artists. I donaEURtmt keep my work to simply a canvas but to the world around me, I live my creativity and have no limitations. I would welcome the opportunity to have you view my creations please ...
