  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Susan Bell - Susan Barnes - Since childhood, art has been a large and defining part of the person I have become and strongly influences the way in which I view the world around me. Having an artist grandmother, with a home studio, made it seem so natural a part of daily life. Hopefully this love of art will continue to be passed down through future generations. Painting is my passion. Although I am a representational artist, painting mainly in oils, my interest is not in copying a subject in a photorealistic way but rather to create something that is sensed on an emotional level in addition to what is seen with the eye. I paint both en plein air, which is both an exhilarating and challenging experience that feeds my soul, and in my Medford studio. Moving paint around is what it is all about, placing one piece of color against another to create that atmospheric effect and convey a mood. That's the mystery and illusion of painting. What attracts me are scenes infused with mood and atmosphere. There is no shortage of either along the coastal areas. Having spent summers for most of my life along the New Jersey shore has given me ...

Kevin Wakefield - I love the drama of staged lighting to create extraordinary depth, contrast and exciting, bold, value and color changes. Revieling the third dimension with strong visual communication. Painting subject matter that may convey sensuality, to spark arousal, change tention to serenity, or envoke art appreciation, aesthetics, create a multisensory connection to viewers and expanded vision are goals l am to achieve....

Pat Heydlauff - I discovered my love for painting in 1993 as I was transitioning out of a stress filled career and exploring my creative side. As a colorist, I painted lively, vibrant mainstream artwork consisting of landscapes, florals and still-lifes. Through painting I noticed my life was becoming balanced, and filled with harmony instead of stress. Painting allowed me to discover my spiritual nature and peace within and lead me to paint in a stream of consciousness flowing with energy. This flow of consciousness energy is visible in my recent "art with a message" canvas work where you can always find hope, peace and joy in the subject matter and every brush stroke. Painting is the physical manifestation of my spiritual being. It is the flow of energy through paint onto a two dimensional canvas projecting three dimensional energy. I endeavor to convey a vital energy through sight with color and design. My inspirational and mainstream artwork can be placed in areas of the home and office to create an environment with balance, harmony and a flow of energy which enriches the viewer. I believe that in our world today with cement cities, sound pollution and isolated environments, it is difficult ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...

Vaidotas Bakutis - For me, painting was a natural state, something I did not really choose but which came automatically because, that was what I needed. You can't learn it; it's not a craft you need a diploma for. I believe art is a subconscious expression of self - is the vehicle for bringing the subconscious to a conscious parallel. Painting is always for me about exploring the depths of my own imagination. Painting is irresistible if you can see clearly, that it's paint what you are looking to and at the same time your eye shows you, as through a window, another world. My work is a result of a fragmented view of the world, which gives it a surreal quality -here and beyond - present and past. ...

Durlabh Singh - Sice R.Mutt's urinal, visual art in the western world has suffered a shock & a decline. It has become mere conceptual & has gone back to literary traditions of making statements.Abstraction has become a puritan's attitude of non-depiction of human body in a dignified form.My art is a sort of revolt against this kind of pseudo-intellectualism. My art takes account of both biological & metaphysical aspect of human body.It is a breakthrough to new levels of reality creating significant forms necessary for development of human spirit. I welcome any suggestions or comments regarding my work. If anyone is interested in buying please contact me.Main aim of my art has never been financial gains. I have exhibited all over the world including India, Kenya, Helsinki, Paris, London & New york etc.My work is in private & public collections incliding Ministry Of DefenceLondon & Horniman Museum London....

Nicole Pereira - NICOLE PEREIRA Nicole Pereira is a young rising artist who started producing artwork at the young age of 4. Nicole noticed that she had a gift for art when her artwork was selected in her local public school and community art competitions. The local press also started raving about Nicoles work. With encouragement from her family and friends, Nicole now devotes all of her free time to paint abstract portraits that express her feelings and emotions. Originally, she started drawing realistic portraits of individuals and celebrities, but felt that she wanted to add more. By careful reinterpretation of the portrait, the use of broad brushstrokes and vivid colors, Nicole conveys her thoughts, feelings and emotion to the canvas to create unusual artwork. Nicole is just beginning to get recognition in the art world as a gifted and unique artist and her potential is unlimited....

Vasily Zolottsev - There is only one law in art which carries objective character and comes from the very nature, conditional character and illusiveness of art! It is an indispensable condition of creation of an artistic image! It is necessary to judge an artwork by intensity and importance of the image and force of its emotional influence! Style, manner and technique don't have any importance and they are equivalent! The good picture of a primitive artist can be much more valuable in the art sense than a 'competent' picture of a realist and on the contrary! If there is an image, there is a work of art, if there isn't, it's no use crying for the moon! And it is not important which art means it has been reached by! Everyone to his 'own' taste! ...

Kimberly Rowlett - My name is Kimberly Rowlett and I have shown locally, in the SE TN area, globally, via traveling group exhibitions throughout Russia, and on the internet for many years. I have been Noted for both the art and photography that I do, in Marquis Who's Who of America, and Who's Who of American Women for many years, now. Abiodun Ijiyera - Artist Statement In style, content and formal properties, my artwork reflects the motifs found in the traditional arts and crafts of the Yoruba people. The themes revolve around occupations, religious images, music, fashion designs, myths and folklores. Initially, when I was in college, the images recalled subconsciously. Recently, though, I make deliberate efforts to incorporate the familiar symbols and designs found in various traditional wears, musical instruments, carvings, and batik dyeing, in my artworks. The talking drums or the baritone igbin drums with their intricate carvings are much more than the sounds they produce. The formal elements expressed by the striped cords, and the wooden pegs that stretch the hide taut, beautifully illustrate graceful lines and textured organic shapes that end up as focal points in my works. Religious subjects from biblical stories are also a source of inspiration for my creative work. Though many of the stories can be narrative, I portray the images in stylized forms. The idea of stylizing started out as a way of getting kids to look for clues in solving puzzles about biblical personalities and events in our Children Ministry at church. It has since become another style of self-expression for me. ...

Vladimir Kezerashvili - I can't paint without a contact with a life object or picture of some sort. Hours of silent observation open a path to the object's beauty from its intrinsic nature. The longer I look and more layers of paint I add "the more abstract it becomes, and, ironically the more real" (Lucian Freud). I have no interest in a search of newness to justify my work; neither have I sought to establish myself via certain painting style or concept. I feel human when I paint, perhaps, because the painting is reminiscent of love and I hope this love is reciprocal....
