  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Sonja Tellison - More than simple faerie tales, myths can teach, heal, act as morality guides, or beacons of inspiration along a sometimes murky spiritual path. The myths of a culture are its soul. They are whats left behind when the political border lines have changed and the people themselves are gone. Myth helps us to understand our own nature as well as that of the world around us. Joseph Campbell, noted scholar and one of the foremost authorities on mythology states, Myth must be kept alive. The people who can do this are artists . . . . The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world. At a time when we, as a society, rely more on science and technology for answers to our various quandries, than a collective, traditional knowledge, refocusing on mythologization is more important then ever. Are you anxious Here, take a new pill Are kids more violent Must be the video games The adage Theres nothing new under the sun. is itself certainly not a new concept. If we delve deep enough, the answers are already existent, like diamonds in the dark. When we forget the stories of our ancestors, we forget our own past and...

Mark Schwing - Ideally the artist is employed by society at large. The artist helps define culture and culture makes us who we are in whatever time and place we are at. Of course most of us are not living in caves anymore but even then art helped society function; helped the hunter hunt, showed people what to do. Art is still showing people what to do in a way. Whether it is raising awareness by showing what is going on, teaching by example or simply exploring ideas that give people ideas. My art is about ideas as much as anything else but it is a surrealistic and intuitive approach. So what is presented isn't a literal interpretation, it is more like exploring the idea with art. It is really another reality. It mirrors our reality and/or it is influenced by our reality. I can't help but be affected by what is going on around me and I am interested in the transcendental as well. Please visit my website, www.markschwing1.com, for more images....

Darla Fisher Odjig - 7th. World Aboriginal Image Maker Vision: the belief that symbology will be a huge part of the art. That all may project a uniqueness of their Indianess through this. I promote the essence of my culture through the educating of Cultural diversity & visions through symbols. The sharing through symbology/pictorial imaging precipitates a phenomenon of altruism and healing. Guidance through mind, heart, body and spirit is essential to envisioning a holistic sense of self. In reference to Creative Extraction, expression toward the enhancing of emotion and identification of authentic values and feelings enable release and validation. Building of inner strength and outer relationships are important to communicating who we are. Reflecting on shadow imaging and of internal elements will allow for visioning and creative connectedness. Our Community includes the participating of connecting with the public through the art and its symbolic representation regarding the intergenerational affect as illustrated by symbolic historical referencing and recording. The developing of inner creativity through outer expression allows a sense of identity and connecting of 2 worlds within. Integrating Aboriginal artistic mastery with Western/European mastery as a recognized fine artistry brings a unified and elegant fusion of a unique vision of true Canadian Fine ...

Daniela Isache - Expressionism is my way to show the world as I see it. Since I was young, I looked at the world differently from my friends. I saw a strange world, wondering why the other people did not see it like me. The world I saw was unjust and made of unhappiness. Looking profoundly at the people's faces, I found them very expressive and I was stroked by their strange traits. I have never seen beautiful or ugly faces but only very expressive ones. Then, I began to paint these faces and I met my future love - Expressionism. At that time, I discovered and understood that the expressionist painting could express the life as I see it. I applied my Expressionism without making any concession to the beautiful or decorative painting. I applied it with force and sometimes with despair. However, when finishing a painting I felt released. I felt as if all my pain and troubles came out of my life. The dramatic motifs I found in everyday life created insurmountable interrogations and tensions. I became calm, but when I looked at my painting, I saw there fear, sorrow and I understood that my Expressionism saved me. Some people ...

Paul Ygartua - THERE IS AN ENERGY, A HIGH WHEN CREATING When you are influenced by everything around you, whether it isaEUR" the people in the world, their culture or nature itselfaEUR"it is emotional and personal. It is these emotions that one tries to aEUR"expressaEUR"an inside view of your thoughts, your feelings and your aEUR"ideas.aEUR" The next painting will be the best. It has been an ongoing struggle for perfection aEUR" being able to break through mental and physical barriers, pushing the envelope to realizing and developing that vision until ultimately a style is born. Then taking that style and working it until it cannot be developed further and only then moving on to adapt this to new ideas, taking you on a journey of versatility and determination to the next painting. I am always looking to improve on each work so as to fine tune my coordination between body, mind and spirit with emphasis on reaching the point whereby my hands almost are moving without consciously guiding them. Speed is an integral part of the process as it forces one to not dwell on exactitude rather it forces a continuous flow of inspiration and passion. My concept of painting is the ...

Betty Refour - I feel that art is a portal to the viewers imagination. Each onlooker is invited inside to find a place of comfort and well being. I often leave my pieces Untitled to encourage thought and dialect. My work has no boundaries and evokes limitless imagination....

Kelly Courtney - My work arises from a need to visualize and document my spiritual journey. Evolving from my one continuous line drawing style, I have developed a way to bring those drawings to life in wire. I call these FLUIDIKONS. A line telling a story, relating a message. Other works arrive from a love of mixed media and found objects. To view larger, and sometimes better versions of pictures seen here, please see:

Wojtek Kowalski - I am a self-taught person. ... My paintings rise from an internal need. I find inspiration in peace and quiet , by observing nature and people. My works show my own vision of the world. By using colours and simple forms I convey feelings and emotions as well as dreams and fantasies. Ideas spring to my mind when nothing happens around me. I am guided by my own sense of beauty and aesthetics. ...
