Artists Describing Their Art:

Scott Brown - The world is filled with visual excitement. When I am receptive to that excitement, a work of art is born. Then it becomes a matter of fleshing it out on paper. If I am sucessful the viewer will feel that initial excitement I felt. In a sense, the artist is a reporter of feelings. Digital Collection. Recently I started creating digital artwork. All works in the Digital Collection can be resized to any multiple of 8.5 inches by 11 inches horizontal landscape or vertical portrait orientation. After purchasing the artwork, you must inform me of the size you desire and contact information of the printer you would like to use. I will send the printer the corresponding file. ...

S Brian Berkun - Statement Brian personally prints each photograph using traditional black and white silver based processing on fiber paper, toning the prints in a selenium toning solution. Additional processing steps in the darkroom contribute to archival permanence. Some of his photos include handcoloring selected areas of the photograph which adds greater visual depth and interest to the image. Current works focus on historic subject matter found in the primitive and remote areas of Utah, and modern day "roadside attractions". Travels into remote areas of the desert Southwest have yielded images of ancient America. Traveling the backroads he has found a wealth of subject matter left over from the time before there was the national interstate highway program of the'60's. These images, combined with hand coloring, have provided a direction in his work reminiscent of picture postcards of the'50's. ...

Sherry Harradence - Sherry M. Harradence Artist Statement: What inspires me is in the form of being challenged with Mixed Media Printmaking that uses a matrix such as plexi-glass plates, copper or blocks that produces one of a kind impressions that are most unique. Monoprint/Relief Printing has a history from as far back as the Masters, Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, Albrecht Durer and many others. Multiple unique impressions printed from a single matrix are known as variable editions (original and ghost copies AKA). There are many techniques used in Monoprinting, including collagraph, collage, hand painted additions, and a form of tracing by which thick paint or ink are laid down on a monoprint press, registering the paper on the painted plate and passing through the press for the transferring of the paint or ink to the paper. Monoprints can also be made by altering the type, color, and viscosity of the ink or paint used to create different prints. Its a challenging medium and you are also painting in reverse. When I am pulling the first print/edition its like Christmas and cannot wait to see what is under the press blankets. My love for color is an obsession and expressed in ...

Michael Garr - I have been drawing and painting since Junior High. I enjoy quick art, impressionistic yet realistic, and minimal. There are interesting subjects all around us. My inspirations are architecture, people, light and shadow, the sea and boats, imagination... and the old masters. Get out and enjoy your surroundings. All my works are available as signed and numbered prints. I also do commission works, some examples of which are in the portfolio. I donate all proceeds to charity (I have a day job). My opportunities for artistic expression have included drawing on napkins during airplane rides and waiting during my sons' music lessons. In 2012 I took up oil painting for the first time, and my mentor is Lorena Pugh of North Kingstown. I've done both Plein air and studio work in her presence, and am benefitting from the association. We have an informal group who meet and paint in Lorena's studio on Monday nights throughout the indoor season. I will continue to pursue art on a daily basis, and post the finished works here and on facebook for any and all to peruse. In 2003, I legally changed my name back to my original name, Michael Garr, so ...

Stephanie Fonteyn - Stephanie Fonteyn is a British painter who lives and works in Switzerland. She was brought up in an artistic environment surrounded by art, graphic design, music and dance. Stephanie is a self taught artist and started to paint as a hobby in 2002 in Spain. Her first collection of abstract paintings was exhibited in 2005 when she was living and working in Switzerland. The abstracts are cross between Jackson Pollack's abstract expressionism and Piet Mondrian neoplasticism. It is a series of huge white canvases with bold black geometric lines, blocks of primary colour and splashes of paint. In 2007 Stephanie rented her first art studio and began painting the portraits collection. The portraits explore the role of emotion in art. She is inspired by how the soul expresses itself during the creative process, and aims to send the observer along a journey of emotional exploration. In 2010 Stephanie painted the collection "Couleurs Jazz" inspired by the Montreux Jazz festival near where she lives in Switzerland. The collection captures the magic and power of Jazz that transports both the musician and audience into the moment. In 2011, Stephanie painted her Collection " L'epoque" which travels into the 50s capturing the ...

Jim Wright - Artist Statement My aim as a photographer/artist is to nudge viewers in the direction of greater understanding of the world and its people. I believe art has the capacity to open minds and hearts and to help people see the common interests they share with everyone else. In addition I think art has a unique role to play in helping us understand and care for our environment. If my work can promote this understanding and caring, and can help prompt any action in this direction, then I feel I will have done my job as an artist. ...

Carlos Pardo - IN SHORT: INSPIRATION: Concious and unconcious perceptions, my background, all circunstances of my life, experiences, past and present, books and newspapers that I read, films, Internet aEUR|feelings, emotions and a fertile imagination sometimes, all them aid to weave a story that will change alongside the execution of a piece. In my opinion our tradition, for thousands of years, the Arts reflect the vision of a trascendent life beyond our tangible life. THEME: Unreal cityscapes let us a special kind of plasticity. The imagination and feelings are active agents that are modeling the perceptible reality. Transcendent and oniric themes entered and remain in my artwork. In my imaginary urban landscapes there are overlaid elements of towns he has visited, some imagined, and maybe dreamed, but all with a unique feminine soul. The Town is a mother, lover, or daughter of the actions, dreams and passions of those who dwell in them or recall them in the distance. It is an idea in which wander those who have been caught up in its infinite labyrinth. PROCESS: I usually have not idea about what I will show on the surface. There is a lack of a script or previous sketch. Forms are born...

Julia Cake - Julia Cake: Sculptress Born: 1973 in Monaco Currently Living in England Introduction Julia's passion for sculpting began when she was 16 after an accident cut short a holiday from another of her true passions, skiing. She enrolled in the famous Beaux Art academy in France to more fully express what was already an over whelming artistic flair. She decided to move into the three-dimensional world of sculpting. This dynamic gave Julia the release she needed to allow her artistic ideas to flow. These ideas when suppressed in earlier years were sometimes misunderstood by those around her, who would comment that Julia's introspective behavior perhap's required a quite different therapy. Her first ever piece "Trois Elephants" was judged 2nd place at an international exhibition in Cannes. She was just 17 years old. From clay she moved into marble, which soon became the stone for which Julia's passion raged. Born in Monaco and growing up in the French Riviera, Julia was able to drive into Italy to hand pick the most beautiful pieces of naturally formed marble to work with. This is what developed her most sought after talent; the ability to take a stone and transform ...
