Artists Describing Their Art:
Dick Drechsler - I have had a lifelong interest in photography. As a child, my best friends father owned a chain of photo processing plants, providing me the opportunity to learn much about the art. At the ripe old age of 14, I set up a darkroom in my bathroom. I even played around with my own primitive version of Photoshop by using an Exacto knife to cut negatives and merge images. Having spent most of my career in the resort development industry, I retired from that career in 2007 and have been posting quality images, doing commercial photography and photojournalism ever since. I am an active press member of the Los Angeles Press Club and accredited by the United States Press Agencys editorial board as a photojournalist and sports writer and am a member of the United States Press Association. I am also a Roving Reporter for Latitude 38, a contributor to the National Press Club, a photographer for Currents Magazine, Ventura County , CA, a contributor to Seven Seas Sailing Association and a photographer - contributor to Sharon, Ink, Public Relations. ...
Barry Hurley - A momentaEURtms quiet grace is becoming harder to find these days. In a society obsessed with technological change and how we appear to others, itaEURtms now even more important to take time to reflect on the world we live in, the surroundings we create and how lives are impacted through the ordinary every day. My photography is a reflection of society today. It finds beauty in the mundane, significance in the abandoned and maybe, provides the viewer with a little hope as they join me sat on a beach at 5am waiting for the sun to rise. ...

Natia Khmaladze - Through my art I try to explore innermost emotions within myself. Each of my work is born from a very personal journey and is a snapshot of a state of mind and sole in one specific moment in time. My characters, at times myself, are portrayed in subtle human moments, when we dare to take the mask off, letting the inner self shine through if only for split second. These precious split seconds are what I try to capture, save and cherish. We all, and so my characters, respond differently to life's challenges - by conforming, rebelling, accepting, renouncing. These are the stories told by my canvases. The catalyst for my art are my travels, self-discovery it entails and people I meet along the way, in remote train stations, in hectic cities on rout to the unknown, unmasked and bare soled. While concept of my pieces tends to be somewhat intovertive and blue, I make up for it by using vibrant, light colours. This is my way of not taking myself too seriously. By creating this contrast, I try to convey message of optimism, that even in our darkest moments, we can't help but retain curious mind, be ...
Christian Klute - My main focus lies on detailed portraitart with a slightly twisted, dark touch. Elderly human faces, radiating some kind of depth and fragmentation are my biggest inspiration. I try to capture the essence of these subtle emotions by combining traditional realism with a more impressionistic, abstract approach. Visit my website www.christianklute.com for more of my work...
Susana Roque - Hello everyone, My name is Susana Roque. I am a contemporary artist living in Canada. I trained as an artist at SFU, Emily Carr and at Laval University. My art work explores our relationship to text, our bodies, spirituality and nature to learn more about who we are. I am also interested in making art about our relationship to animals from a human rights angle to help them and to see what our knowledge about them says about ourselves. My main body of work has been in photography this past year but I also work in all mediums since I build my art from my ideas first and then translate it into a medium that can best express them. Like most contemporary artists in BC, my contemporary art training consisted in learning a lot about combining images and text together in different media. I am taking this a step further to incorporate dialogue and story telling in my work through video and multimedia. I work with drawing, painting , sculpture, mixed media and sound but my main area of interest at the moment is in making interactive ebooks or enhanced books for the web. I am interested in mixing different kind ...
