Artwork Description:

This Higher Court Judges is a creative assemblage of objects, which include ropes, wrist-watches, markers, pens, plastic spoons and fork, plastic bottle tops and covers, shaving sticks and plugs, among others, were glued to a board and beautified with acrylic colours in an abstract visual discourse on justified judgment by the right judge s. Higher Court Judges is about Almighty God being metaphorically represented by seven masked faces of spiritual entities on earth delivering judgment and overseeing the affairs of mankind. It is contextually about incorruptible judges whose judgment and pronouncements are sacrosanct. Some of our modern judges in Nigeria and abroad as we have noticed in recent times are corrupt, bias and fraudulent. It is an abstract work with decorative motifs and forms creatively woven into the composition in order to enhance the aesthetic essence of the work with an African aura. The seven domineering masked faces of the symbolic celestial judges are visible in the upper part of the work gazing down at the crowd of plaintive and defendants below. The faces were assembled with objects such as pens, markers, spoon, fork, bottle tops and covers, shaving sticks, plugs, and clips among others before colours were added for the finishing. It was rendered in cool colours of green, blue, yellow ochre and Prussian blue mingling with the warm presence of red reddish brown and the soothing brilliance of white and grays in a unique balance of contemporary and traditional ease. Ropes were woven round and into rings going in and out of the composition to enclose the forms therein as a sacred statement that none can escape the judgment of the Higher Court Judges, Almighty God.
