  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Elena Mary Siff - In the collages and assemblages I interpret the mystery, the humor and the threat of my dreams. By collecting and juxaposing bits of disparate material, I create my own order. The souvenirs of my travels have been a constant source of inspiration. I am fascinated with very small imagery and a great variety of materials and textures. All of this work is a form of narration, as I consider myself primarily a storyteller. "Everything can be used, but of course one doesn't know it at the time. How does one know what a certain object will tell another/" Joseph Cornell That unpredictable dialogue is the basis of my method and my faith. Elena Mary Siff ...

Susan Leopold - My art tells a nonlinear story that emerges from my dreams and memories. I am drawn to the dynamic between past and present,to what can be seen and what is invisible and the connection of the conscious to the unconscious mind. I work with portraits, old photos, materials, textures and objects that reflect their history. I am attracted to things that are imperfect, tactile, raw edged or torn. I juxtapose disjointed bits and pieces in the way that the mind replays the past. ...

Ralph Michael Brekan - Art gives a unique glimpse into the past and a vision of the future. Theme's of popular culture, consumerisim and politics fill our waken world and I in turn create artwork that defines the world around me. Reoccuring elements of mass production and ego identity reside throughout my work, both in the subject matter itself and in the media I've chosen to execute the vision. Contemprary art methods and contemporary themes and subject matter yeild great contemporary art. My art work subscribes to the most common virtue of past masters: experimentation....

Avinash Shamdasani - Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the Art of the Creator. Artists come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the Art lives on. On many an occasion when I am creating art I have felt touch by something sacred. In those moments; I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists. I become the stars and the moon. I become the Lover and the beloved. I become the victor and the vanquished. I become the master and the slave. I become the artist and the art. I become the knower and the known. I keep on creating Then it is the eternal art of creation. The creator and the creation merge into the wholeness of joy. I keep on creating And creating And creating Until there is only . The ART - Avinash Shamdasani ... ...

Peter Gallagher - A lifelong passion for texture, and richness of surface has led to this new series of original collage works. I employ handmade papers from Japan, China, Thailand, India, Nepal, and yes, even some of my own creation in my studio in Seattle. I build my own canvases as a sculptural block to create a dynamic presense when hanging. The papers are collaged on all sides to create this sculptural feel. These works stand great as individuals and can be very visually rich when several are hung together. They are also available in larger square sizes as well as in rectangular formats. Ashley Hancock - "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary," said Pablo Picasso. The canvas is my journal in which I paint my thoughts on life and my environment, ideas, emotions, and observation of others and myself. I am not interested in recreating what the human eye can see just by "looking." I strive to bring forth both my subconscious and conscious emotions and my perceptions in a visual form, primarily through oil painting. ...

Erika G. Johannsson - "Nonsens": Der Apfel setzt den Brautschleier auf, und sie glauben noch immer, dass er im Besitz der einzigen Wahrheit ist. The apple put on his bridal veil, and they are still thinking, only he knows the real truth. Er lasst die tote Kuh vom Himmel sturzen, um in diesen zu kommen. He dropped this death cow down from heaven, intending to bring it in there. Das Gerust schmeckt den Wahlkampf und sagt den Apfelkernen die Zukunft voraus. The framework tasted the election campaign and read the future for the pips, in advance Es quackt der Eselssteig-und die Brille lachelt. It is squawking on the donkeyroad and the spectacles are smiling. Er ist so rundherumdummgebildet, dass die Fusssohle sein Sessel ist. He is such a StubidlyAllAroundEducated, that he uses own footprints for chair. Die Siebenmeilenstiefel sind bodenstandig. The SevenMilesBoots are indigeneous. ...

Sepideh Majd - New Series: 2005 Pendulum, gravity and the unknown... a work in progress. Series: 2004 Urban Decay- series: 2003 Random Thoughts.. This is to express, the random acts that have been taking place around us, the uncertain future, the chaos that the world is in. Paintings combine words and images that are sometimes hard to comprehend in a coherent manner.Words not heard, feelings discarded and faces remain in shadows. Composition, color and the unconscious mind are key components of my work. I use all these elements to convey my perception of the relationship between myself and my surroundings. The biggest challenge I encounter when working is to successfully bring to life what I see and feel with my mind's eye. This challenge leads me on a journey towards an infinite process of learning and experimenting with different types of medium and subject matter. I choose my medium according to its success in conveying my vision. Through this process of learning and experimenting, I try to keep my work honest and fresh. ...

Stephanie Hayden - My work varies in style, i try to capture moments of my life on different canvases, from watercolours, acrylics, to montages, sculpture and my photography. Much of my work is dark & disturbing and i can attribute it to the fact that until recently i was registered blind, legally, having been born with dislocated lenses. The more vibrant & colourful works are from my later period after i had surgery to implant interocular lenses, thus i now see the world in a totally different way. This can be seen across my portfolio....

Doyle Chappell - DOYLE CHAPPELL is a portrait artist who paints in a distinctively contemporary style, creating colorful works that are the antithesis of dull, ancestral-type portraits. From the beginning of his art studies at the University of Texas, Chappell prefered painting people to other subjects. His sensitive depictions reflect those intangible qualities that motivate and define each individual. Admirers of Chappells portraits have observed that his paintings seem to reflect a kind of inner spirit that expresses much more than the surface appearance. He finds all ages to have special beauty. Although he has created numerous oil portraits, he presently works mostly in acrylic on canvas as that medium most suites the spontanious and painterly brushwork and heavy build up of layers of colors, on top of colors. His works are valued by serious art collectors, and his portraits are included in many private collections. Some of his favorite paintings are of "just plain folks". Among the well known subjects Chappell has painted are Lynda Johnson Robb, daughter of President Lyndon Johnson and wife of Virginia Senator Charles Robb, with her children; Senator and Mrs. Warren Magnuson; and actress Daryl Hannah. PROCEDURE Doyle Chappell paints almost exclusively from life, usually completing ...
