Artists Describing Their Art:

Markus Kruse - In Washington, Trump is mostly seen only when he chooses. At a lectern in the Rose Garden. Saluting as he boards Marine One. Behind the Resolute Desk of the Oval Office signing jumbo-sized executive orders, pushing his red button to summon a butler with Diet Coke or flashing a thumbs up from his high-backed cherry leather chair. But a nine-day, marathon foreign trip that concluded Saturday here in Sicily has offered the first extended aEUR" and often unfiltered, thanks to the steady stream of raw camera footage provided by his host countries aEUR" look at Trump on the world stage. Emilio Merlina - I was born in 1950 in the North East of Italy from a polish mother and a sicilian father. I toured the world until I was 35, then I returned to Italy and picked up again my old passion painting and sculpture. As for myself, I can only say thoughts and paintings, paintings and thoughts. Everything maybe useless, however everything is life. i?1/2The human being leaves its signs, graffiti, indian dreams and imagination. Now I only have left a few more possibilities to express the colors which are not. Only the sign, scratched, angry or brushed is the witness. The sign has passed from there and there it has lived.i?1/2 Emilio Merlina Some hear if a door opens Others hear a latch which opens or closes Others more they hear the Angel when he turns over a page of the Great Book From the novel Missa Sine Nomine By Ernst Wiechert I have words which relegate my hunger And the hunger which owns my body but which do not confine them I have words which are both my confined hunger and body By the Italian poetess Paola Lovisolo ...

Helene Donadieu - Collage, I would rather say << Khartegraphie >> But what does it mean ? You will not find this word in the dictionnary since I created it from the ancient greek << khartes >>, meaning sheets of paper and << graphein >> that we do not translate any more My way to wink at those people who do not take you seriously when you say you create with magazine clippings, a pair of scissors and glue ! Certainly a way to keep smiling and give a noble pedigree to the Art of Collage Painting with a pair of scissors, drawing or writing with paper, or to be more precise - with pieces of paper cut out from magazines has become my favourite expression for the past ten years . I preferably care for cutting shapes and colours and arrange them to create visual illusions or give another meaning to the images Images can speak in may different ways you just have to find them or build your own story ! My << visual games >> would like to drive you in a wonderland where objects are cut, changed and collected to give birth to an artwork , sometimes allegoric, most of the time simply funny or unexpected. In any case, each ...

Alkistis Wechsler - Reality meets myths. Personal visual impressions of chosen English gardens ... lately also Mediterranean seaside, are coming together in imaginative collages and alchemic transformation. . Sensitive to the environment as well as to human interactions and expressions it all translates into visual myths . Not only travels between geographical points, but also a thirst for such trips in the mind through myths and readings of initiatic rituals of metamorphosis, infiltrated as well my art of painting. At the end, every archetype (for example Heliogabalus, Persephone and Artemis) and every movement reaches back to the source of rhythm and scales creating a personal mythology and so I understand my self and the world after each painting is done by a hypersensitive process and not a premeditated rational plan. The seasons or the elements and their rhythm are interwoven with my vision of human soul and the soul of the sea ...

Mischa Epstein Alvarado - Mischa Epstein Alvarado is a collage artist . She has been a visual and performing artist most of her life. Over time she has developed a distinctive personal style. Her images combine childlike imagination and fantastictical compositions into a compelling visual style for children of all ages. Mischa has won Peoples Choice at the 2007 Southwick Annual Art Exhibit and Best in Show at the West Springfield 3rd Annual Art Show and Most recently 1st place in painting and printmaking at the Matoon St Art Festival. Her work can also be seen at the West Sprinfield Library until September 28th and Mt Tom's Ice Cream in East Hampton till the end of the month. Mischa creates her collages from handmade paper, beads, buttons, snaps, wood, wine bags and whatever comes to her. Each collage comes from her emotions, thoughts, and concepts that are generally "adult" in nature. Yet, as you can see, Mischa's process reveals a whimsical and "childlike" piece of art. Each piece has special detail, inspiration and techniques in them and each comes with it's own story to tell. Each piece of art is meant to soar with your imagination and give you the same feeling ...

Kelly Goode - I start with things I find: pictures, letters, ads, fabric, idea fragments that belong to other people, and then I fill in the blanks with my own story. Working with collage makes me feel like I'm part of something bigger, and like I'm preserving the otherwise forgettable details of humanity in some small way. Schooled in photography and self-taught in painting and the rest, my most influential teachers are guts and sensitivity. My gut jitters when I know its good and sinks when it stinks. Sensitivity makes me vulnerable to emotions and perceptive to life and our history. When I tell people about my artwork I say "There's a little bit of me in there, there's a little bit of you in there"....

Kate Storm - Kate Storm's work is about the patterns and landscapes of her life, especially the journeys she has made into and out of relationships, places and experiences. Using clothing patterns, maps, journals, stamps, fortunes, photographs, journal writing and poetry, she presents a personal narrative of journey and struggle by utilizing collage, paint, and multimedia techniques in combination. The textures and translucent applications of pigment in Storm's work culminate in a series of evocative, multi-layered pieces that symbiotically merge the processes of personal and aesthetic decision-making. ...

Kanika Marshall - Kanika Marshall has created a distinctive collection of mixed-media art sculptures, which includes hand-painted tile mosaics and other two-dimensional wall pieces, three-dimensional sculptures, masks, garden art, wearable art, figurines, goddesses, breast cancer survivor art, and tribal-design pottery. She sculpts some pieces by hand from clay, paints them with a color glaze to form the varying hues of skin tones and other colors, and then low fires them in a kiln to ceramic perfection. Many of the pieces are draped with fabulously textured fabrics from Africa, and/or adorned with beadwork, glass, leather, recycled metal, stones, shells, or other finishing touches. Kanika believes her African ancestors work joyously through her hands to create each one-of-a-kind sculpture. Kanika studied with renowned potter/sculptor Ruth Rippon in 1980-81 and with figurative sculptor, Yoshio Taylor, in the early 1990s. Kanika's sculptures have been sold for years in the Crocker Art Museum, numerous art galleries and stores throughout Northern California, at juried art shows, on the World Wide Web, and to art aficionados all over the world. The City of Elk Grove purchased Kanika's "Leather Locks & Five Ancestors" and "Sea Jellies and River Rock." ...
