  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Johan Gaellman - I change material and subject now and then. Sculptural works including photography and labyrinthic ideas was my main interest for some time, as well as painting, printmaking and installations. Since 2008 I concentrate on drawing, creating slightly weird portraits, playing with patterns, shapes and lines. /Johan Gaellman ...

Bert Menco - Though they may seem simple, especially my drawings and intaglio prints but also my paintings are actually quite elaborate; half a year's work on an image is no exception for me. I draw directly or use small sketches, even doodles, as image-generating nuclei, often combining two or three that appear to complement each other. I rarely use concrete references, but rather work from inner visions. I tend to be narrative in my own art, perhaps poetic narrative. I don't see my images as telling a story but rather as reflections of inner feelings, similar to some poetry, and would like observers to read them as such. I like to believe that my work carries a certain mystery. My images are very much "inside out.aEUR? I have usually some idea of what I want to obtain, but much of the image is generated while I draw or paint. The end product always surprises me; I am often amazed that there even is an end product. Analyzing my own art is difficult but I think that the dreamlike images tend to deal with confined spaces which contain certain characters that reach out to one another but do not quite ...

Bodo Gsedl - In my works - portraits of individuals, surroundings and music - my goal is to catch what can not be seen at a glance. What is behind the image of a person? How can I make music visible? My art has to be explored. There is always something behind the first impression. ...

Nora Meyer - I paint what I feel, what I imagine, what I'm reminded of, what I see and live. Some times I take a classic and rethink it. Some times my drawings are of every day items and the appreciation of their souls and their quiet drama. I find beauty in the patterns of shadows, the light and the darkness, the forms created amongst another. ...

Zaher Bizri - Zaher El-Bizri is a young Lebanese artist. He specializes in painting and mixed-media pictorial and plastic arts. He developed a refined expertise in watercolors, in oil paintings, charcoal drawing, and graphic design, with a highly skilled use of Information Technology tools besides classical artistic media. El-Bizri focuses principally on representational and pictorial depictions of everyday scenes and quotidian intimate public spaces, of diverse characters and portraits, while being particularly inspired by the Levantine Mediterranean cultural milieu, and primarily by the architecture of the medieval quarters of the ancient Lebanese port city of Sidon (Saida). His artistic endeavors explore the profound promising potentials that remain presently contained within classical styles in painting, as well as experimenting with abstract configurations in pictorial art. His artistic activities are also situated within urban places, and they act as inspirational catalysts for stimulating dynamic cultural practices in the public domain in the form of installations, sculptures, and series of murals. El-Bizri received his Diploma in Fine Arts (Beaux Arts) in 2000, from the Lebanese University in Beirut. His prolific artistic productions and creative works have been exhibited on a regular basis since 1998 in numerous prestigious art galleries and venues. He ...

Elisha Sherman - My craft designs are elaborate with hidden objects or intricate designs waiting to be seen. Process is essential to my work and begins with the medium of paper. I use a unique form of decoupage working with handmade papers and an assemblage of found objects. I like symmetry in my work and often balance size, shape, and color with pattern, and texture. I love to have fun with my designs and enjoy working with clients to create custom pieces for their special occasions. I continue to create my work with exuberance as it is a nice respite from the constraints of formal teachings as the possibilities are endless in multimedia. The evolution of my line continues, as I am currently designing bottle cap art with genuine gemstones, handmade papers, and charms that can also be turned into necklaces. ...

Oleg Lipchenko - What about an art? Probably I'm not an artist - just a musician without a voice. And what I'm using for singing - paint and canvas. It's pretty much like singing. Sing a song when you want, when it's singing itself, when your voice is just following the inner melody. That's an Art what I call it. . . . . . About an inspiration. Art is very personal thing. Artwork, being inspired of something, could touch or induce a personal response in someone, and who knows will it be related to the source inspiration. My latest works are primarily much more abstract, sometimes absolutely abstract. This character of my painting doesn't depend of what I like or what I don't like in art. I'm not a special fan of abtract art or realism, but I hate statements, programs and manifests in art. It goes as it goes, or at least it should. If you ask me what style or the direction my paintings belong to, the question doesn't make much sense to me. Directions and styles are just labels or stamps which help dealers to pack and sell art. I like such words as Realism, Surrealism, Abstract...

Otto Rapp - BOGOMIL'S UNIVERSE - the Inner Universe of Otto Rapp Bogomil's Universe is an excursion into the realms of the Inner Universe - a parallel universe that exists in the mind, and glimpses thereof are presented here. I am increasingly reluctant to speak of my work as strictly and exclusively surrealistic. While Surrealism provided the initial spark, and some of the methods of Surrealism are employed, I do not suppress the influence of the rational and selective focus. Thus, particularly in later works, there is to be found a conscious juxtaposition of the complementary forces of inspiration and reason. I do not concern myself with the elimination of the rational, the exclusivity of the irrational and the absurd, but presentation of the conscious and subconscious world as an inseparable whole. I draw my inspirations from the layered labyrinth underground which represents the other side of life, which is an inner imaginative-inspirational counterpart to the outer world, expressed with the help of logic-alogic associations, analogisations and symbolism. The paintings in the cyclus Bogomil's Universe are derived by creating textural surfaces, the method of Decalcomania as pioneered by the Surrealists, letting color, consistency and flow of the paint determine initial ...

Lucy Drumonde - The Line and Color of an Artist. Lucy Drumonde The provocation of line and color is the subsequent value of the artist and the art. Lucy Drumonde's cartoon and illustration design is the harmonizing line with the intensity of color. The love of lines, textures, shapes, design, simplicity, and the element s of humor, and seriousness -they unify the complexity of playfulness and personality in the final creation of an idea. Artists such as Peter Max, John Wesley, Alexander Caldwell, Gustave Klimt's, and Egan Schiele have whimsical patterns in usage of their lines and color. As well their work has generated emotional and poetic expression. These artists draw contradictions towards each other, and yet convene to their audience the narration in their work. The theory of line and color is to create a simplistic image in its equal balance. The feeling of the paper with the pencil, and the pen, they create the rhythm, and the lyrical aspects of the model or character. Egon Schiele's drawing is an example he demonstrates in the intensity of his style. These artists have influenced Drumonde's own direction to my own freelance unique style of drawing, animation, illustration, painting, cartooning...
