I made this drawing after a photograph I took at the end of the fifties when roaming around in Paris. It shows Montmartre early in the morning after a night of snowfall with the snow still fresh on the roofs but already turning into smudge because of the few cars on the slippery streets. In the background one sees the towers of the basilica of the Sacre Coeur while a housewife goes on her daily shopping round. I worked in the early sixties in Paris and it has always been one of my favorite cities to be.
