Artists Describing Their Art:

Luise Andersen - Luise'Mignon' Andersen Luise'Mignon' Andersen has only recently begun to reveal her lifes work. Soon after her debut she exploded onto the mainstream art world. Her breathtaking pieces have captured international interest. The stories Luise'Mignon' is telling through her truly deep, layered works seem to decipher the past and foretell the future, perhaps sharing her window to other dimensions and a seventh sense. Her detailed acrylic'Mignon' series speaks to the beholder. They inspire raw emotion and ignite ones imagination. The indescribable nature of the "Duree De Ma Vie" in particular has a growing portion of the art community considering it the conception of an entirely new style. Philip Hallawell - I work in various media: oil, watercolor, dry pastels, pen and ink and mixed media. My work is a result of a fragmented view of the world, which gives it a surreal quality. However, my process is not surreal, because I start with a definite theme that I wish to investigate. My main area of interest is people and the human form and I am constantly investigating the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual aspects of Man. Over the years I have developed various series, which I revisit periodocally, investigating different aspects. In purely visual terms, what fascinates me is light and form and how I can use diverse visual elements in a complementary way, opposing, for instance, line and form, or rough and smooth textures. The use of diferent materials to achieve diverse expressions, either alone or as mixed media, along with alternating between a graphic representation and a painterly one, or mixing the two, is a very important aspect of the way I materialize my thinking into images. Equally important is the transition from very realistic images to a totally abstract means of expression and alternating between control and expressiveness....

William Dick - STATEMENT My paintings record my interest in reconciling different and often estranged qualities and ideas in painting. I work through an experimental evaluation of the co-influence or confluence of organic and geometric, texture and structure, density and transparency, the sensuous history of paint and the austere tradition of minimalism. Within the context of abstraction, namely geometric and organic, I begin with the fundamental balance in painting between line and colour. I have drawn on ancient symbolic shapes from my Scottish background and I am influenced by the symbolic power of simplest forms of drawn lines such as the circles, concentric circles and spirals of Pictish and Celtic Art. Linear elements in my work derive from this source as well as from African and Aboriginal Art, Abyssinian Warrior Shields and Russian icons, and other lines and shapes that retain, in the broadest sense, some significance within culture. For colour I begin from observation of geological form and the substance of land of dust, sand, mud and rock as well as the outcrop of local street furniture architecture weather and the effects of weathering, and then of the often extreme and exotic colour of lichen, peat and mosses. My work exploits ...

Dario Raffaele Orioli - A painting, statue or other work of art speaks best for itself, without superfluous words, but to say a few words about my opinion about art. Art allows us to live, differently at different periods stages of life. Different already in character, temperament of each individual. Through art I seek man Of course, many painters run away from looking for a man because it is a painstaking job, so it is easier for them to end up in abstractions, concepts, etc. under the pretext that it is modern. Abstraction is a trip to the unknown, but after many years of such a trip to the unknown, one gets tired and realizes that he needs the peace and stability he can find in the knowledge of the world around him, which is right outside of him and if he knows how to look, he can think through it enjoy it here and now There is a saying that every living being is a snapshot of nature towards man, this can be applied to art ....Any abstraction is an artists shot at figuration.... Of course it can be the other way around, but what a world this would be if it were ...

Mircea Popescu - Mircea Popescu Statement In my work time is an active element. I paint like I build a sculpture using simple forms, lines and textures representing days, hours and archetypes such as: books, letters, numbers or primordial elements. The surface; canvas, wood, or paper is painted from dark to light, a technique used in the byzantine art. Using classical principles, the golden section, the structures of my compositions are based on rigorous diagrams of simple geometric figures. Considering that contemporary art is characterized by invention and experimentation, texture becomes an essential element of my paintings that comes naturally from the way the paste is applied, transparent layers of paint creating new surfaces. Light is the most surprising element in my paintings which is a result of my technique; the method I mix the primary colors, pigments and other substances What is interesting, not all of them contain the same light, but all of them radiate energy. ...

Bert Menco - Though they may seem simple, especially my drawings and intaglio prints but also my paintings are actually quite elaborate; half a year's work on an image is no exception for me. I draw directly or use small sketches, even doodles, as image-generating nuclei, often combining two or three that appear to complement each other. I rarely use concrete references, but rather work from inner visions. I tend to be narrative in my own art, perhaps poetic narrative. I don't see my images as telling a story but rather as reflections of inner feelings, similar to some poetry, and would like observers to read them as such. I like to believe that my work carries a certain mystery. My images are very much "inside out.aEUR? I have usually some idea of what I want to obtain, but much of the image is generated while I draw or paint. The end product always surprises me; I am often amazed that there even is an end product. Analyzing my own art is difficult but I think that the dreamlike images tend to deal with confined spaces which contain certain characters that reach out to one another but do not quite ...

Manolo Roldan Humpierres - MANDO It draws, to draw, always to draw...... With pride and much admiration to my teachers, great sketchers Dr Pedro Centeno Vallenilla and Roberto Gonzalez of those who I learned the safe outline in the drawing for the office, movements and color of lemos professor Elisa. With school, investigation and the constant work I arrived at a full mixed technique from textures and plastic possibilities without limits (fabrics, wood, paper, etc) every day with more discoveries and new encounter. In the process the thematic one has been varied, until in the year of 1,9991 the Argentine artist Fragnito Daisy invites to me to work with her in a titled project "Root" for the commemoration of the Discovery of America (500 Years). Of the Patagonia until Alaska, I initiate and "descubro"un to me fascinating world in the different indigenous ethnic groups, colors, faces, forms, customs, symbols, music, dances, expressions, rites and the magician. The Children of the Moon (yanomamis) shemales, (histories) Vasijas, particular collections of pre-Columbian ceramics, mud Gods, utilitarian ceramics, all this and but as inexhaustible source for my work. Beginning with "FRAGILE" in the year of 1.992. Of the pre-Columbian Art la"Venus...

Mikhail Priorov - Born in Yaroslavl in 1959, Mikhail Priorov studied at the Art School from 1973 to 1977 and graduated from Moscow Art College in 1982. He pursued his artistic training at the famous Stroganoff Art University, graduating in 1987 when he began to work at the Zagorsk Artistic Fund. That same year Mikhail joined the International Federation of Artists. Since 1981 Priorov has participated in numerous local, national and international exhibitions. Solo exhibitions include ACTION, Moscow in 1998 ; Moscow Artists on TV, also in 1998 ; Noise Club in 1997, as well as RT Gallery for the Arts and the Winter Nights Festival. In 1996 he showed at the Russian Division of Culture; in 1995 at Chaffee Center, Vermont, USA; and in 1993 at Chasse Loup-Laubat 17, Paris. In 1987 he began combining painting with tapestry design and mural work. A considerable part of his work is devoted to musical cycles, totaling thousands of pieces no two of which can be called identical. No matter how many times the artist returns to the chosen theme, he never fails to be innovative, conveying endless compositional variations. Strong attachment to his national heritage and traditional Russian icon painting greatly influence his work. In ...
