New drawing just finished: H G Wells , 28 x 42cm, pencil and blender. I wanted to do a drawing of Wells, whose work I ve always admired. I still don t think he s properly appreciated, perhaps because he s so difficult to pigeonhole. Huge body of work, but like some artists, almost all his best produced very early and from then on an anticlimax. Just recently I was very lucky to come across in an antiques shop a copy of his Outline of History which I m reading. I show him at the age of the scientific romances, in later age, world famous, and my take on the fantastic passage in War of the Worlds when the Ram Thunderchild attacks three Martian fighting machines at Sheerness .
