Artwork Description:
This work is a sketch for a mural about Jewish History in a Yeshiva in Staten Island, NY. The 4 panels of that mural show the Exodus from Egypt, the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, the Temple and King David composing Psalms, and the Messianic Era (with many small details).
This sketch shows how the third panel will look: the walls of the Bet haMikdash are built with stones each carrying the name or first words of a prayer (like shema, kaddish, yishtabach), and the children are looked upon by Eliezer, who said in the name of Rabbi Chanina: The students of the Torah scholars augment peace in the world.(...)Don call them your children (banayikh), but your builders (bonayikh, since many Hebrew text have only consonants one can interpret words in differnet ways when reading them loud). Jewish history is one of my favorite (artistic) subjects.
