Mark Stine: 'Morning Glories', 2002 Stained Glass, Floral. Floral stained glass is, in my opinion, often trite in its simplicity and lack of originality. This artwork depicting morning glories ( currently for sale) is a classy example of floral stained glass. The central design is constructed ...

Artists Describing Their Art:

Frans Kat - A. ADELAIDE ARTISTIC GLASS (AUSTRALIA) Artist: Frans Kat Throughout more than twenty-eight years as a glass artist, Frans Kat has been working predominantly in stained glass for residential, commercial and architectural settings. These windows have often incorporated the highly specialised art of kiln-fired glass painting and staining. His strong interest in contemporary glass design has created many opportunities while his traditional training has allowed him to adapt well to projects which demanded a more traditional design approach. Frans has been involved in some of South Australia's major church window restoration and conservation projects, during his long career. He has glass works in many private stained glass collections Australia-wide, as well as some in Belgium, The Netherlands and Great Britain. His recent interests also include sculptural, fused glass pieces, combining glass and metal as well as architectural etched glass panels which include various techniques such as painting and lamination. In the occassional pauses between commissioned work, Frans often designs and paints small free-hanging "autonomous" stained glass windows which are ellaboratly hand-painted, small scale works which can be hung in front of a window rather than being installed into fixed frames. In these pieces Frans develops ...

John Clark - I am a commissioned artist. I use the old name of Glasspainter for what I mostly do which is making stained glass windows for specific locations. I use this ancient medium holding mainly to the traditional techniques and seeing what I can create using them. I like work that endures. I work to a given brief or develop a brief with my clients to find a solution to a given design situation. Some of the projects I have undertaken have been on very difficult themes such as the Lockerbie Memorial and The Falklands War Memorial but many other works also, religious and non- religious. My clients are many and various from private individuals to companies. I work mainly in Europe but have recently begun widening my horizons. Work can be undertaken world-wide. I have constructed a huge web site under the domain name www.glasspainter.com and I hope that you will come and visit me there also. ...

Goksen Parlatan - As an artist, mosaic is a very practical way to express my thoughts, feelings and ideas even my hope. Working with the old techniques and giving innovation with creativity makes me happy in this area. Meanwhile mosaic always takes time and it gives me growth and strenght. Sometimes the work wears a different cloth than the first thought of it. So amazement and fun is always there. ...

Iva Kalikow - My first love was interior design which I studied at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I went on to study drawing and color at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. At first, I thought I wanted to design furniture, but while living in L.A. I took a class in stained glass and I was hooked. My approach is one of the overall interior design of the room as well as the architectural aspects. My stained glass art panels are created in the traditional lead technique seen for centuries in churches and cathedrals. Using a wide array of both handmade and manufactured glass in every conceivable color and texture, I am constantly visualizing how natural light will illuminate the work. In selecting my palette of glass, do I use a rough wavy glass or a smooth texture, do I want it translucent or opaque I then meticulously hand cut each individual piece of glass, grind the edges and wrap it in malleable lead came strips, then solder and cement to create my original custom designed interpretations. My most recent collection is inspired by the Masters of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Fauvism, and Cubist periods of Art - ...
