Artwork Description:
The Chapter of Floods, a glass book. Chapter of Floods concerns a fictious character but is accurate historically. The coptic figure is cast glass covered with 22k gold leaf.
The story:
Since time primeval, the Nile has
risen gently and sensously in its season
giving grain and lotus, crocodiles and taxes.
Shall it not do so for eternity?
For fifty-one years I lived the rhythm
of the Nile, giving many children
and faithful service to Pharaoh.
As a droplet in the Nile, should not I too continue?
The hyroglyphics translate on the stele as follows:
May I be given these words of power. I have lived by the dictates of my heart. I have gained mastery of my purpose on earth. Grant that I may speak to the beings of Knowledge.
Behold, his Chapter of Floods
becomes the flame of fire
begetting a tablet of crystal.
