Psyche Embraced by a Dream represents a medidation on love lost and found, and on the nature and the passage of time. Perhaps the best symbol of these themes are the scattering flower petals which I have incorporated into the work. Such a symbol conjures up a womans cycle of life, and is traditionally used in Japan to invoke the transient and ephemeral nature of life and of love. It also evokes, interestingly enough, the fluid nature of gender itself, which remains a largely taboo topic in the West. The framed vision of the night, common to many of my pieces, also invokes Rilkes poems on that theme.
