Artwork Description:
For me, the artist, this painting shows the moment when Jesus was just taken down from the cross. He is not wearing a crown of thorns meaning that it is over, that it is finished, that Jesus Mission was accomplished.
Seeing Him against the cross shows us that we can now lean against the Lord
as He is leaning against the Cross in the painting; casting all our burdens
and cares onto Him.
I also wanted to show Him with bruises, so that we can get a little idea of how much He must have suffered when He died for us. Many times, I see paintings of a beautiful Jesus on the cross, but those paintings fail to show a little of His sufferings at that moment. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of how much He suffered to understand how much He Loves us.
Through this painting, Cristo Rey, I wanted that all who see it could see him/herself through Christ and that whenever we feel that we can go on, we can always remember that Jesus died for us and that He will lift up our burdens from our shoulders bringing us Peace, Love, and Forgiveness.
