Artwork Description:

The design references the floor of a Roman villa built after the second century A. D. and situated along the Adriatic coast. Due to the repetitive geometric design, the cubes appear to move challenging one�s perception. This pattern was a popular motif in Roman times as it restrained individuals from drinking too much; the more inebriated a person became, the more the floor appeared to shift before his or her eyes, making it difficult to keep his or her balance. The design retains its historic context and its authenticity due to the incorporation of genuine Roman tiles. As a table, the mosaic serves as a beautiful and dramatic centerpiece for a dining room or patio. The effect of the design is enhanced when the table is set with crystal, silverware and porcelain plates, which sparkle and glow above the Roman design.
