Artwork Description:
The solar motif at the center of the composition relates to the beautiful yellow tiles, which compose and surround it.
Produced from the floor of a lavender distillery, the porous tiles absorbed and preserved the distinct floral aroma.
Consequently, Soalhat creates a circuitous path in which the sun nurtured the lavenders growth until the lavender was harvested and transported to the distillery where it scented the floor, which was turned into tesserae that make up a mosaic depicting an image of the sun.
Like many of Soalhats pieces, Soleil contains themes of renewal and transformation.
