Artwork Description:
Forgot the other piece I was working on several weeks ago.. so I had to start other.. no large pieces of copper available.. so I chose this one.. 6 x 9
inches.. 3 hours work.. and not gone 'far' as
usual.. all transparent colors - even though I wanted to stay away from these for a while- blue,
chestnut brown, raspberry ruby, sunset orange.. scrubbed the copper first.... rinse until clear- my
favorite job ;-( but.. surface needs to be clean... fire does not 'forgive'- shows every thing.. takes a lot
too.. and gives sooooo much more ;-) -- well.. the
clay stuff brushed on one side (which will be
backside).. dries under lamp.. then front! the side I was looking forward to.. started with the left.. in
blue .. just poured the glass powder through little shaker on there.. then the shaping the outline-
that was work.. flux and without flux- after that, I asked 'Dolly' the technician, if I could leave copper
areas bare.. and how about risks of loosing work, that is done.. and if I could use partly the flux, that
is like clear liquid glue to hold glass powder chosen
, on.. not use whole surface with flux.. she said to
go ahead and see,she does not know unpredictable
- Said I WOULD !! (man, this way I ran often into
'walls'-- and guess how nose looked like.. picture speaking).. Curiosity.. oh boy.. Then 'Bess' Reide, our real great artist (93 ? yrs. old and still creating as if never end.. bet you, with her it does not).. took
me to the color chart.. and informed me.. glass colors direct on copper turn out darker .. not so on
top of flax .. it stays truer to 'sample'.. that fixed me.. now I know, what to expect-- I used both possibilities combined in this piece--just to make sure, she was really right.. PLUS, to satisfy my creative curiosity--and guess what- she was.. Well.. I played.. and the figure took shape.. core in
'hand'.. and then I 'saw', how I wanted it.. applied the raspberry on right all around.. and inside
orange.. which appears like bubbles .. Maybe it will be spirits.. or humans.. and I use these orangy rounds (bubbles) as heads.. I mean, the bubble like shapes.. will be if nothing else comes out of it, at least interesting.. because I am thinking 'lines'... severely smile now.. Plus, it will weigh with lots of great glass hues ;-) You will see, how far I get, next week.. and I will also work on the previous.. Also still do not have total idea, how I want to 'mount' fish series.. (5 pieces to one art work)..
