Artists Describing Their Art:
Sanjay Sen Gupta - The Aesthetic Gesture my attitude towards art _______________________ 1. Life is a splendor. This splendor is manifested through various dimensions all around us, as well as within our self. It is an eternal continuity of harmony - a variable balance between all the contradictions and diversities. It's a journey from the beginning of the end towards the end of the beginning. And we are the blessed, the chosen ones; and life goes on - with and/or without. 2. When we think or/and speak of our 'self', the 'self' becomes highlighted, focused to our consciousness. And thus everything else defuse into a sense of nonexistence, a sense of nothingness, a sense of 'void'. Contrarily, when we think or/and talk about anything else, i.e. the 'sense of other', the 'self' defuses into the whole and becomes a part of the 'void'. And when we focus on 'everything', the 'self' and the 'other' loose their viability and defuse into the whole. Thus the focus gets split and 'everything' becomes synonymous to 'nothingness', the 'void'. Each and every moment, in each and every act that we perform - knowingly or unknowingly - our sense of being keep changing sides. The 'self', the 'other' ...
Timothy King - ARTIST STATEMENT and BIOGRAPHY STATEMENT I find painting goes beyond the notion that painted reality is "nothing but " a precursor to a photographic realism. Painting is a phenomenological experiment. There is a synthesis between the visual and the kinesthetic that forms a powerful third range of human perception. Human space and form are not purely optical manifestations. The painting of mass and line can provoke a muscle sense, a physical ness between viewer and the painted relationships. Hans Hoffman called this "Push-Pull". Matisse referred to this as the convexity of pictorial space. In this "meta-vision" or "minds-eye" the painter is not freed from the experience of perspective and local color and the naturalistic geometry of the objects and scenes. Rather, the painter can be liberated by the experience and knowledge of the defining aspects of human reality. Vision encompasses the obvious factors of sight along with other less obvious paths to sensing reality. Human vision is based on a plasticity of structures that tell us more than what a photograph can convey. The visual system, governed by layers of logical relationships, goes much further than a photo interpretation of reality. Painters like Courbet and Cezanne understood ...
Richard Olmstead - Influenced by my art, design, and architecture background of the 50's-60's many of my works incorporate a modern style. Creating good design out of materials that were readily available was and remains a priority. Form, function, and appearance are important considerations of my work, which includes: buildings, paintings, furniture, jewelry, lighting, sculpture, set design, pottery, custom automobiles, and other applications. I believe in paying careful attention to the slightest detail and striving for perfection. Applying skills, talent, and imagination to materials transforms them to art. ...

Rebecca Merry - Rebecca takes her inspiration from images of sacred art: primarily Islamic geometry, Christian Orthodox Icons, Indian and Western miniatures and illuminations, and early Italian Renaissance painting. More recently she has been drawing inspiration from Russian folk art, and Art Nouveau. She works primarily in egg tempera and is a member of the Society of Tempera Painters. Tempera is a traditional paint medium still used by the Orthodox Church which combines egg yolk and pigments to make a bright durable paint which is painted on gesso panels. She also makes her own gouache paint from pigments for her works on paper, as used in Indian miniature painting, and some collage work and etchings. The work itself is colourful, intense and with a strong narrative content. All of it depicts an archetypal, symbolic world where the ideals of things exist. To this end, all the pictures are based on geometric patterns that give them their innate harmonious quality. The colours too are carefully chosen, to give a sense of musical composition, an idea drawn from Indian miniature painting, where images are often painted as a mirror of a musical mode. ...

Patrick Gysemberg - If, at the end of your life, someone would ask you if you had done something to contribute to the world peace, would you be able to say : "yes, I did?"
