original, canvas, unframed The passion of this artist, since the inception of his artistic career, has always been the human body, and, along the Italien tradition of the Renaissance, he has never ceased in depicting it in all its glory and agony. But it is the female body which has electrified his talents and honed his artistic skills, as if in the body of the feminine being lies the alpha and the omega of all human existence. The female body in Martin's art is the focal pont through which every human experience is filtered. However, the female nude of this artist, besides being a personal interpretation of his external experience, is also a lyrical interpretation of the essence of being. Petros Martin, in all his modesty, needs to be recognized as an ascending Canadian artist, whose work, besides having a sublime lyrical form, has also a profound metaphysical dimension. Perhaps admist the endless -isms of contemporary art Martin is - as the early Renaissance artists - proposing a statement - or a definition - that art is a selective re-creation of reality based on humankind's metaphysical value judgments.
