When I heard the news story about a young man who wanted to hug a panda bear and climbed into its pen, I thought, wow, I can totally relate to this young man I would love to give a hug to a panda. I was thinking of us humans, as loving creatures, who are yearning for affection and oneness. In my painting I am expressing my fantasies about a beautiful world where we can hug all the animals we want, lay on the warm ground and watch fireflies.
I used dark colors to create an ambiance of night. The panda’s colors, darklight blues, and pinkyellow on the side, are implying that the whole scene could be just a lucid vision. I wanted the lady to look comfortable, so I created an old-fashioned dress with a lace collar and little yellow suns for her. Their faces are lit up by the firefly, that is performing its dance. The ground has intricate patterns to suggest a presence of unknown life within the Earth. Both figures and the Earth are close to each other to symbolize unity.
