The idea of the painting came in my mind in a really short time. I was thinking at my father and his entire life condensed in just one image. I wanted to show the “space-time” continuity, considering one single life. The element that links time and memory, the window, is real but at the same time changes through the years, and is perceived in a different manner as time goes by for people who look at it.
The image shows an old man, lying in his death-bed, with close eyes. He remembers himself as a young man holding a picture of himself (in black and white) as a baby. In fact, he needs this instrument to fix time: he has no memory of that period… In the background, the window remarks the continuity and the passages of his life. The point of view we can see the window from is always the same. Only the man changes always his distance from it.
