Artwork Description:

The ‘Throat chakra’ , is also known as the ‘Vishuddha’ chakra. It is the fifth chakra, located at the center of the neck at the level of the throat, it is the passage of the energy between the lower parts of the body and the head. The function of the Throat chakra is driven by the principle of expression and communication.. This chakra is related to the element of sound. Hence, music dance learning and creativity is enhanced when this chakra is active. Vishuddha chakra is associated with the element etherAkasha. The Throat chakra is most commonly represented with the color blue turquoise or aquamarine blue. The chakra s associated animal is the elephant Airavata, supreme lord of herbivorous animals, vehicle of the Vedic god Indra, who is also the god of thunder. It is of smoky grey color, the color of clouds, since the element etherAkashais associated with this chakra. The Vishuddha Chakra is a centre of physical and spiritual purification. A story from the Puranas, the story of ‘Samudra manthan’, clearly illustrates the immense purificatory power of the Vishuddha Chakra The Devasgodsand Asurasdemonswanted to raise the treasure Amritathe nectar of immortality , which was hidden in the depths of the ocean, to the surface. They used Mount Mandara as the stirring stick and the world serpent, Vasuki, as the rope. In this way they were able to churn the ocean of the world with their combined power. Numerous treasures and precious objects emerged from the ocean and, finally, the longed-for Amrita rose to the surface in a golden vessel. But the serpent they had used to churn the oceans spat out a deadly poison that was capable of destroying the whole earth. Quickly the Devas caught it in a bowl so it was not able to do any harm. But as they had absolutely no idea what to do with it or how they could permanently “dispose” of it, they turned to Lord Shivagoddess Shakti for help, who then took the bowl of poison and drank it down to the very last drop. However, it was not swallowed, but held in the Vishuddha Chakra and purified. In this way, the world was rid of a deadly peril. Through the poison the throat of the deity was coloured dark blue. There is a deep symbolism in this story. Our own negative thoughts and qualities are the demons. The Devas represent our good qualities. Both qualities exist within us. The ocean of the world propels us in two directions – one towards the Devas, therefore towards goodness and light, and the other towards the destructive powers, the Asuras. The Vishuddha Chakra is a place of purification and balancing. The breath that flows through the throat, and therefore through this Chakra, plays a big role in this. The Yoga technique of Pranayamaconscious guidance and regulation of the breathexerts a strong influence on the Vishuddhi Chakra, at both the physical and astral levels. Through the power of the breathPrana Shaktiin the Vishuddha Chakra, we can rid ourselves of the toxic substances that are absorbed from the environment, as well as mental impurities. In this art, Shakti is seated on a lotus,The lotus represents the highest level of consciousness when in search for enlightenment and purity. Behind her, stands guard the elephant Airavata. On his forehead, is the symbol for the throat chakra. And since he is Indra’s Mountwho is the god of thunder and lightning , there is lightening projecting from his forehead. Lightening is also accompanied by thunder, as the throat chakra is related to the element sound Since she is the Vishuddha chakra goddess, she represents ‘Samudra manthan’, the constant struggle between good and evil within every person. Her throat symbolizes the mountain around which is wrapped the serpent. One one side of her, on one ear of the elephant, is an Asura, holding the tail of the snake. On the other ear, is a deva, holding the head of the snake. The images of the Deva Asura are on the elephant’s ear, because he represents power and strength and guards the goddess. He bears the brunt of the ‘battle’, and gives the throat chakra the courage to get through this internal conflict. Shakti’s hair represent the waves of the ocean. Since creativity results from an activated throat chakra, there is a tanpura in shakti’s hands. There are open books and scrolls symbolizing learning and there are musical notes at her feet. Her hands are shaped into dance mudras and she has dancing anklets on her feet. Her whole body language suggests movement. The background is a mix of bluethroat chakra color , yellow representing wisdom, and grayish whitecolor of Akasha or ether . chakra, reiki, healing, holistic, spiritual, beauty, goddess, hindu, love
