  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Inge Van Der Meulen - Somehow mankind needs the expression of art; art may provide hope to the ones who need it, it can embrace and support the heart of the ones that don't feel understood any other way, art can bring us passed the limit of words... Kunst kan een gevangen ziel bevrijden, het kan de limiet van woorden overschrijden... Your comments, statements etc. will always be interesting te me, and I hope that my expessions at least will bring you the joy of watching......

Alex Mortensen - Currently I am most interested in painting of natural areas, especially coastal scenes and tend to concentrate on sunrise and sunsets when I really appreciate the glorious colours and patterns of clouds nteresting. I like, too, the waves at the beach. I hope that my portrayal of clouds and waves continually improve over time. Since travelling to Central Australia, the desert areas, I have done a number of paintings, mainly with oils, of desert landforms, especially The Breakaways just north of Coober Pedy in South Australia. I am very committed to art and am studying Fine Art through Curtin University. I have gained High Distinctions in each unit studied to date....

    E. Tilly Strauss - I have been painting chickens for the last 20 years- beginning with the advertizing of our family's poultry farm business thru the eventual move of my studio into the defunct slaughterhouse. Somehow chickens fall easily from my brush, leaving painstaking impressions of my psyche and chronicling retrospective concerns of my community- such as the source of food, the use of land, the clarity of love, the isolation of individuals. With the inclusion of text from headlines to personal lists, stories emerge and dissolve through the process of the painting. Layering in the push and pull of darks and lights, the paintings gel into a narratives of our anxious era, a larger tale of the moods of soul and season. Because of the space and time I am afforded to work, much of my painting up to this has been intimate in dimension. I would like to enlarge the images to a much more confrontational scale. I recently moved out of the poultry slaughterhouse (because of ventilation needs) into a much larger barn. My goal is to further push the images so that they reflect the chicken as legend in our cultural mythology and account for my current truths. ...
