  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Alexandra Kruglyak-Zecevic - Alexandra Kruglyak Alexandra's approach to her work is sheer dedication and passion. According to her, she only paints when she manages to achieve the inner unity with the subject regardless of its scheme or ideology. The main message of her work is modern positivism in its basic form. She prefers to work with live subjects on portraits in order to catch complimentary details such as aspects of personality, which a photograph cannot relay. Her still live compositions have a definitive style indigenous to the European Old World technique saturated with realism and simplicity of figures and forms. She tends to discard the non-essential and concentrate on the formative qualities of the object. The colours tend to be bright but warm and the entire style is that of restraint. However, the restraint does not constrict but rather highlights the intense undercurrent of emotions she experiences while painting. Today Alexandra's art has found its way into many private collections in Germany, England, Ukraine, Russia and the United States. Her latest work is mainly done in oil and acrylics, and according to her "the inspiration can come from anything, even observing a compilation of random colours". Currently Alexandra's paintings ...

Douglas Ladd - Douglas Ladd is a multi-media prize winning artist, currently living in Texas. Using a limited palatte, Douglas has released images that have accumulatted over many years. The paintings are intense and full of light. As you enjoy his paintings, you will find they relate to you on more than one plane. Each painting is the beggining of the evolution of the next. The imagery and colors will keep your eyes coming back for more. Douglas has sold his artwork all over the world. You will find yourself in good company if you decide to collect these unique paintings. These works are copyrighted and may not be reproduced in any way except by permission of the Artist....

Lyn Mccallop - I love abstract art; that is cubism, expressionism, and neoplasticism. I have been painting for over 15 years and enjoy the process of creating abstract images, the colors, and the brush stroke. The joy of painting for me is on a deep level where I let my inner psyche and mental energy direct my hands and hope that the viewer will be influenced by the painting. I was born and raised in NY, but now make my home in NJ where I work full time and paint every other waking moment. Favorite artist's abstractionists are Pollock and Kandinsky....

Leigh Yardley - I believe that painting and drawing are visceral forms of communication and they are my first language. Making art requires me to be willing to take risks, to ask questions, to explore the unknown. The more I paint the more I yearn for greater fluency with this language. These paintings come from living close to the land. I am fascinated by the changing landscape, not only the effects of seasons and weather but human interactions with the natural world. We shape it and change the plants creating great swaths of a single color, we abandon it, reclaim it: we change its purpose to fit our desires. Each painting or drawing becomes a record of my reaction to a moment recently observed in our environment. Hillsides devoured by man or beast; the close observation of a fallen branch, the effects of time and climate that may or may not be in our hands. The long rectangle and the diptych have evolved into my chosen painting format. The artificial divide created by the diptych began for me as a metaphor for our ever-present signature on our surroundings. Over time the tension created by the divide has become an integral part of...

Heather Patterson - Award winning artist and Rye resident Heather Patterson has been painting professionally for 16 years. Heather has exhibited her work in NYC and throughout Westchester, NY. She enjoys capturing the beauty of local (and not-so-local)landscapes and landmarks in oils on canvas. Heather also donates her time and talents to various local organizations in Westchester. In 2005, she created a garden mural in the lobby of Midland Elementary School, raising almost $40,000.00 dollars for the PTO's "Year of the Playground". ...

Frank Driscoll - Dreams are an untapped powerful source to figuring out your life. Your mind works in ways you would not even imagine. Many of my works are dream inspired and contain quite a bit of symbolism. My objective is to simulate the sort of thought process one has when dreaming. Th symbolic aspects of my works are meant to portray a much larger idea or beleive in much the same way symbols do in dreams. The content of my work is both surreal and realistic often incorperating retro/vintage patterns, items, and images. My vibant color palate includes all colors of the rainbow, however they are presented in the tints and hues that most reflect their psycological effects on humans. Diffrant colors are affiliated with diffrent feelings. Dreams are a fusion of feelings, symbols, idea, images, and memorys, essentialy what I try to make of every painting I do. ...

Joyce Pryde - My paintings are inspired by memories of where I was born and places I have travelled. I am an abstract artist and whilst my work appears as if it is arising from impulse the method of making is very influenced by my emotions at the time. ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...
