  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Erica Emerson - I remember gazing over my uncle Melvie's shoulder as he doodled the most wonderful characters on the dinner napkin at the local L & K diner. I had to be five or six. I knew at that moment that Art was to be my passion. I spent my childhood summers painting what my eyes interpreted. Laying on the front stoop, surrounded in millions of colored wax, just trying to get that next door neighbor's roof just right. Sitting in church, with the members around me coming out of the sermon with a sense of peace, mine was different, I had a masterpiece in hand. I was amazed how I could see my own little picture in every corner of life. When I was in Junior High school, I remember going to see my Art teacher and asking her how to start thinking of scholarship for Art school. She looked at me and with wide eyes, " Well, I've never had a student so young be so interested in Art school!" -But then again, I wasn't just any Art student. In High School, freshman thru senior Art years were fantastic. I was taught by another inspirational teacher. She had...

Jacqueline Weegels Burns - My whole life I have always been involved in arts and crafts. Now, having two children, my art seems more eclectic than ever, because I am influenced by them and THEIR art. In turn it is wonderful to see how I inspire them with my stories and art. We have created art together, ranging from home made cards, watercolor pictures, multi-media images, 3-D objects and much more. My art will always be varied as I enjoy switching between small detailed pictures and larger abstract works....

Lee Twigger - I have had a fascination for aircraft and fantasy since childhood. In my art, I try to convey a little bit of this passion to others. See more of my work at

Henry Woody Lindenmeyr - Woody Lindenmeyr's oil paintings have a refreshing take on landscape painting. Strong, bold, colorful, harmonizing strokes accurately recapitulate his subject in a fantastic manner. It is clear Woody not only has a passion for painting and the mountains, but a deep understanding of them as well. Only with this relationship is the artist able to interpret his subject with such depth and candor. Additionally, Lindenmeyr finds intriguing perspectives that are supported by sturdy composition, and a bold palette. These painterly qualities coalesce on the canvas to create a unique, contemporary work of art. Woody has earned a Fine Arts degree and has managed an art gallery. He has had several shows including a one man exhibit last January. His work hangs in private collections throughout the United States and Australia. Mr. Lindenmeyr resides in Crested Butte, CO with his wife amidst the Rocky Mountains....

Shelly Lahar - In my last semester of classes, I felt deeply troubled by the Iraqi War and what other mothers must be facing as their children fight for our country and painted a series on the Iraqi War and terrorism. I have had four paintings chosen for the Student Art Show in the spring of 2004, and have had the two war paintings shown selected for the 2005 Student Art Show with one semester of painting to go. I've also exhibited a piece in the Members Show at our local gallery in 2004 and 2005. I certainly hope you enjoy the work I've created! Please let me know if you do! Thank you so very much for looking! ...

Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Caroline Macdonald - Caroline MacDonald's fascination for variety, energy, contrasting lights, colours and peoples are her inspiration and passion. There is joy, love, laughter, kindness and heartbreak everywhere in equal measures. Her aim is to express the emotions that inspire her, she paints in reaction to all she sees and feels. She does not intend to paint photographically but rather to initiate an emotional response in her viewers, to the passion which inspired her. Caroline MacDonald has lived all over the world; she is married to a civil engineer and has two children. They are as important to her as her art. She has enjoyed every new situation. There is vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost. Martha Graham ...

Deborah Leyva - Reflections "In search of the muse" These paintings have emerged from a deep sense of compassion and the desire to create. They helped me in my search for meaning. May they shed a small ray of light on you as well. *** Associations Member, Texas Fine Arts Association Women's Caucus for Art Women in the Visual and Literary Arts *** www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/d/dleyva
