  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Harry Bayley - My paintings are very much about expressing colour in different ways, which I incorporate into whatever painting that I am working on whether it be my own work or a commission. I think colour when used in a painting whether it be bold or subtle can make all the differnce. I would describe my paintings as absrtact, contemporary and full of colour expression....

Emilio Merlina - I was born in 1950 in the North East of Italy from a polish mother and a sicilian father. I toured the world until I was 35, then I returned to Italy and picked up again my old passion painting and sculpture. As for myself, I can only say thoughts and paintings, paintings and thoughts. Everything maybe useless, however everything is life. A-A?A1/2The human being leaves its signs, graffiti, indian dreams and imagination. Now I only have left a few more possibilities to express the colors which are not. Only the sign, scratched, angry or brushed is the witness. The sign has passed from there and there it has lived.A-A?A1/2 Emilio Merlina Some hear if a door opens Others hear a latch which opens or closes Others more they hear the Angel when he turns over a page of the Great Book From the novel Missa Sine Nomine By Ernst Wiechert I have words which relegate my hunger And the hunger which owns my body but which do not confine them I have words which are both my confined hunger and body By the Italian poetess Paola Lovisolo ...

Walter King - I am Professor Emeritus retired from The Columbus College of Art and Design CCAD. Ive lived and made my art here for 35 years beginning as a student at CCAD and returning after accomplishing my MFA from Boston University. Im now retired and living in Virginia. Ive taught drawing, color, design and painting techniques in the illustration area since 1985. Ive exhibited in Columbus regularly, written up in the Dispatch and in Dialogue Magazine, extended my exhibitions spiraling out from Columbus to various galleries in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky then Maryland, New York, Oklahoma and Washington State Hiroshima Japan, Washington DC, then to Budapest Hungary, Dresden Germany, Zagreb Croatia, Buenos Aires and Cordoba Argentina Early in my life I worked as an IllustratorDesigner after high school and while putting myself through art school later. I worked on projects for Apple computers, OETA PBS and Oprah Magazine. My work is all over the world owned by people like the former Director of the National Archives in Zagreb Croatia, a Bank President in Holland, The Greater Columbus Arts Council, OSU Newark and there are works in collections in Washington DC, New York, Texas, Ohio, Oklahoma, California, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Cyprus. A peace ...

Grace Auyeung - Landscape painting is my artistic gravity, and I mainly use Chinese ink, colour and Xuan paper as media. I like to explore various techniques and styles, but I place strong emphasis on the use of lines to express my feelings and thoughts about the landscape I try to recreate. I see my art as a vision of my inner self and my spiritual self as well....

Mary V. Williams - As a creative explorer dedicated to the technical mastery of classical realism, I look to funnel the joie de vivre, the joy of living, into my work. From classical to contemporary, no subject nor media is safe from my spontaneous interest and occasionally quirky and humorous point of view. My creative background includes graphic design and dance. This creates in my work an inherent love of line, rhythm, and clarity, action, expression and an enduring love for figure and portraiture. A storyteller, I paint with an economy of brushwork and attention to strong composition, symbolism, line and edgework. Color and imagination are my partners face and figure are focal points capturing the heartfelt, natural spirit of life is my motivation. My methods are those time-honored techniques of the craftsmen of a much slower era than todayaEURtms. When one of my works has reached a level of effortless effort, I know that it is complete and ready for its debut....

Mark Schwing - Ideally the artist is employed by society at large. The artist helps define culture and culture makes us who we are in whatever time and place we are at. Of course most of us are not living in caves anymore but even then art helped society function; helped the hunter hunt, showed people what to do. Art is still showing people what to do in a way. Whether it is raising awareness by showing what is going on, teaching by example or simply exploring ideas that give people ideas. My art is about ideas as much as anything else but it is a surrealistic and intuitive approach. So what is presented isn't a literal interpretation, it is more like exploring the idea with art. It is really another reality. It mirrors our reality and/or it is influenced by our reality. I can't help but be affected by what is going on around me and I am interested in the transcendental as well. Please visit my website, www.markschwing1.com, for more images....

Carol Watroba - My artwork reflects and admires the beauty, grace and balletic elegance of the Lipizzan horse and the Spanish Riding School and its great heritage. My technique is classical realism in oils and alkyds, using many glazings for depth of color and meticulous pre-study drawings for technical accuracy of the complex anatomy of this horse before color application. My portrayal of this beautiful Baroque horse and its great history in classical horsemanship and culture will show in all my works now and in future works....
