Artists Describing Their Art:

John Sims - Following some thirty years working as a graphic designer and illustrator I began stone carving in 2000 and in 2002 I returned to college at Christ Church Canterbury in England to study BA Fine Art. In 2007 I went to the Cyprus College of Art to study for a Post Grad Diploma in Fine Art under the great Cypriot artist, Stass Paraskos. At the end of the course I was asked to stay on and run the Summer Schools and to be tutor on the Post Grad course. An incredible experience and an enormous influence on my work. My work now involves less stone carving more often found timber or kebab sticks My drawing in some respects has turned a full circle in the sense that prior to sculpture my illustration work was colourful but painstakingly detailed and stylised. At college I concentrated on measured observational life drawing in pencil which fed into the simple lines of my mainly figuratively based stone carvings. Whilst in Cyprus I re-discovered colour in both my drawing and sculpture. Dreams and mythology filled my waking and sleeping hours. Oil pastel and oil sticks became my favourite mediums to quickly capture these glimpses of ...

Serghei Ghetiu - Hi everybody, I am Serghei Ghetiu. Like all of you, dear viewers, I am an art lover. I paint since my childhood, but since several years I started to devote to painting almost all of my time and now cannot stop. Art for me is embodiment of many notions, meditation, fulfillment of thoughts and ideas. I admire classical paintings, but also approve all directions in art. It will be pleasure for me if my works delight your eyes and mind....

Anna Zarshin - I put my thoughts on a canvas with no premeditated plan and directionaEUR|.. I donaEURtmt know exactly where I should write my name in order not to be spilled out. Since the earth is recently flattened, the field of human vision should be widenedaEUR|.. The line that connects our heaven and earth togetheraEUR|. We all are moving towards the same direction... and gradually join to the color of lightaEUR|.. But the humans are ejecting out of the canvas as far as the eyes can reach....

Katalin Luczay - Painting to me is an expression, interpretation, and appreciation of the world around me. In my opinion any art should inspire and elevate the human spirit. These types of art works are immortal, such as the works of the old masters. In my paintings I strive to achieve these ideals. I would describe my works as related as representational realism. In my seascapes I bring many different colors together to illustrate the movement of water. In my landscapes and still life works I like to emphasize the play of light as it hits a focal point. I like to paint in oil because I can achieve this sense of light and motion by glazing over layers, as well as in oil I can achieve a richness that I find limiting in other mediums. Please see my website at

John Cielukowski - I received my BA in Fine Arts from Montclair University in New Jersey in 1981. I also studied at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) and The Art Students League in New York City. I enjoy painting vintage amusement park scenes, farm animals, domestic and feral felines and industrial landscapes. With my paintings of farm animals I try to convey that these animals have the same depth of emotion, feel joy and suffer just like our domesticated pets do. I donate my paintings and prints to local non-profit Central Florida groups such as (Save The Manatee Club, The Brevard Achievement Center, The Space Coast Feline Network and the Humane Society of Central Brevard) for their fund-raising efforts. I also donate to national animal welfare groups like Farm Sanctuary, in Woodstock, NY. I am an active member of the Central Brevard Art Association. I am responsible for hanging artwork at one of our aEURoeArt in Public SpacesaEUR locations....

Pol Ledent - I am a self-taught artist. I was born in Belgium o, 23rd October 1952. I started painting in 1995 . I took some drawing lessons in the art academy in Dinant. I try to paint the landscapes of the countryside where I am living : the southern part of Belgium. Firts I took part in many collective exhibitions . Than, I had personal exhibitions in Rochehaut (Galerie La Potele), in Dinant (Galerie L'impression), in Paris (Rive Gauche Galerie Artimus) in Brussels (Galerie G-Loft).In 2004, I had three exhibitions, again In Rochehaut, galerie La Potele in May. Then, in September Exhibition Libr'art in Libramont. In November, Galerie Impression in Dinant. What people like most in my paintings are the colours. My art doesn't speak to the intellect but to the soul and to the feelings. Talink the risk to seem old fashioned , I would say it is rather romantic. I wish you much pleasure looking at my paintings. Pol Ledent ...

Mark Schwing - Ideally the artist is employed by society at large. The artist helps define culture and culture makes us who we are in whatever time and place we are at. Of course most of us are not living in caves anymore but even then art helped society function; helped the hunter hunt, showed people what to do. Art is still showing people what to do in a way. Whether it is raising awareness by showing what is going on, teaching by example or simply exploring ideas that give people ideas. My art is about ideas as much as anything else but it is a surrealistic and intuitive approach. So what is presented isn't a literal interpretation, it is more like exploring the idea with art. It is really another reality. It mirrors our reality and/or it is influenced by our reality. I can't help but be affected by what is going on around me and I am interested in the transcendental as well. Please visit my website, www.markschwing1.com, for more images....

Michael Lonfeldt - I am Danish artist who is interested in abstract paintings, with bold colors, strong contrasts and many different materials. In my unique works, there are countless small details that it takes a long time to make. Often I work on the motives for 2-3 months, where I have worked them over 10-15 times before the process is complete. As an artist, I can not help but see images wherever I move around. The ideas for the designs I often get on travels and tours by foot, car or bicycle. Very often it begins with that I see an interesting scenario in nature It may be an urban environment, a landscape or something else that attracts my attention. Because there are exciting lines or interesting color combinations that can be a good starting point for a great painting. Many Danish artists use notebooks to sketch their motives. I prefer to use a camera or phone to maintain the interesting moments. It is a good help if I canaEURtmt remember lines and colors later in the process. One of the most important things for me is that I constantly develop myself as an artist. Therefore I make painting exercises ...
