  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Marty Kalb - Artists important to me Rembrandt,Cezanne and Matisse, because their work got better with age. Klee, because he makes me realize that simple ideas are the most complex and the most rewarding. Kandinsky, because his work was the first to teach me about the levels of meaning in abstraction. Twachtman, because his landscapes are about how to feel about place and process. Church, because his majestic vision is his own creation. Monet, because I see his hand and eye take risks. Hofmann because he controls the mind and frees the spirit. Heartfield and Goya because they do not look away. There are others, but as Hillel said "the rest is commentary" Subjects I return to. Color filled landscape abstractions. Realistic images of local streams, And waterfalls in other places. The Holocaust as the ultimate moral challenge Each is important My paintings explore realistically and abstractly an interest in landscape from my immediate surroundings, distant places of particular natural beauty, seascapes and undersea forms inspired by many visits to the Caribbean and a long standing interest in Asian art. Most of the paintings of realistic waterfalls are of places in Vermont, New York State and Ohio. The abstract waterfalls are inventions, ...

Osvaldo Herrera Graham - About Art In order to begin, it is very difficult to define the art, I believe that the artists we express ourselves better through our works than with words. I can explain what it interests to me of a work, which would come being my particular form to see the art of the painting. I think that all great work has a mystery, something inexplicable. Using material ordinary, the artist obtains something totally extraordinary. In art, the sum of the parts is not equal to the whole. In my work I give priority to the color, and although I have tried to work with the pure color, always I return to the streamlined forms that maintain it, but they do not contain it I think that each picture is a new adventure, with its own rules to follow, and that the painter is only an average one to make it. At the end, I only paint. Osvaldo E. Herrera Graham ...

Robert Nizamov - Born and trained in Russia, Robert Nizamov explores a variety of approaches to painting, from representational still lifes to more abstract landscapes that in many ways recall Impressionism and its analogous movements. Above all, Nizamov strives for the painterly painting, a re-dedication to the medium of paint and brushstroke, based neither on the current market nor modern trends, but born from the sacred act of putting brush to canvas. What results is an approach to painting that is as versatile and varied as the subjects Nizamov chooses to portray. Colors work to create mood: alternately muted and subdued, calm and relaxed, bright and vibrant. Likewise, composition is skillfully employed to set the tone for each painting, at times balanced and serene, other times creating a sense of disparity and tension. Perhaps the hallmark of Nizamov's work, however, is the movement conveyed in each individual brushstroke, masterfully created in the specific way he applies the paint, infusing his images with light and adding a depth and richness to his work.

Pinheiro De Santamaria - "...Ever since I was a child, I have had the tendency to create a fictitious world around me, to surround myself with friends and acquaintances who never existed. ( I don't know, of course, if they didn't really exist or if it is me who doesn't exist. On such matters, as in all others, one shouldn't be dogmatic.) Ever since I became aware of the thing that I call self, I can remember with mental precision, the figures, the movements, the character and the history of several fictitious people who were, to me, as visible and mine as those things which we, perhaps abusively, call real life. This tendency, which exists since I realized that I was a self, has always been with me, modifying slightly the kind of music it uses to bewitch me but never altering its manner of bewitching." There's no need to explain something which, by its nature, is simple and intuitively understandable. It happens, however, that human stupidity is great while human kindness is not worthy of note. ...

Greg Gierlowski - Light has always played important role in my creations. Light comming through translucent artwork interests me and fascinates me the most. Therefore I turned into glass and started to experiment with translucent creations. My admiration for Art Nouveau artists that had created a lot of beautiful everyday-use objects of art resulted in creation of applied arts' objects such as art-lamps. When one has backlight at ones disposal, there's whole new field of artistic expresion - not only on one front surface of glass panel but on two, or even four or more, when two or three layers of glass can be used as a kind of sandwich that builds deeper into artwork for 3D effects. That's what I'm working on now and what's seems to attract international viewers & art-critics more and more now-a-days, to the point of of achieving latest awards and honours ( mainly from Italy....

This of course naturally lends itself to more viewers and potential buyers, making us one of the preferred choices. ...

Mima Stajkovic - The world I live in today is filled with the most amazing secrets. Personal secrets that cannot be told, those little thoughts that shape your personality and intimacy. Every secret have reason, every reason have shape, influence and interaction. My goal is to recognize each of them with the respect that they deserve. Bringing them to light in full color, making them touchable and visible, I get better understanding of individuals, their apprehension and shame, their desire and potential. While working on a painting over weeks, sometimes months, I found that acrylic on canvas give me the best opportunity to quickly catch my thoughts. Starting with real world and images I continue to explore with symbols and colors emphasizing my impression. The finished work may not resemble the original idea but I always get to know something new during this enjoyable process. In the latest series of paintings I am playing with women's emotions, her fears and wishes developing relations with other people. When people see my work, I'd like them to feel my thoughts and get chance to agree or not with me, but in any way to think about motives that every woman has developing emotional ...

Leon Aarts - What is Art? Art is the thrilling spark that beats death - thats all. Brett Whiteley Why does one paint? The most fundamental reason one paints is in order to see. Whiteley Who is an artist? I am an individual who is also an artist-look at what I am doing. Alan Pearson. What is the definition of Art? Discovery is the definition of Art. Pearson. What is'good' art? There are no rules about investment. Sharks can be good. Artist's dung can be good. Oil on canvas can be good. There's a squad of conservators out there to look after anything an artist decides is art. Charles Saatchi (Art Collector) Can one explain what one's art is about? Painting is a language which cannot be replaced by another language. I don't know what to say about what I paint, really. Balthus The position of the artist is humble. He is essentially a channel. Mondrian It is particularly colouring of the soul which literary technicians have not so far found to be chemically analysable, and consequently,it has NO name.Expressionism is today in the AIR. I choose to be an artist. Leonardus Aarts...

Vasily Zolottsev - There is only one law in art which carries objective character and comes from the very nature, conditional character and illusiveness of art! It is an indispensable condition of creation of an artistic image! It is necessary to judge an artwork by intensity and importance of the image and force of its emotional influence! Style, manner and technique don't have any importance and they are equivalent! The good picture of a primitive artist can be much more valuable in the art sense than a 'competent' picture of a realist and on the contrary! If there is an image, there is a work of art, if there isn't, it's no use crying for the moon! And it is not important which art means it has been reached by! Everyone to his 'own' taste! ...

Elena Osterwalder - When people leave their homeland, their home memories freeze in that instant, and without them realizing it both the country and the people progress in divergent directions. The external influences of the new country tend to be assimilated with the old ones and in "The Arts" form a new esthetic with components of both cultures. Years later the yearning for what was left behind takes a hold of them and forces them to look back. In my case using components that have historical and spiritual value in the Mexican tradition, I strive to converge the various cultures that have influenced me and create a 21st century aesthetic.
