Artists Describing Their Art:

Vasco Kirov - For me painting is a way to convey to others what my inner reality looks like. I guess, that is what most artists are trying to do. This is why my paintings are mostly abstract. I access this inner reality with my eyes closed in quiet and relaxed state or in lucid dreams, which I am blessed to have from time to time. In this personal reality light and colour form structures with astonishing size and grandeur generating emotions and strong desire to share the experience. Sharing however is not easy. It is like to listen to the most amazing music and then try to talk about it. I am not sure that I will ever be able to express these experiences in full, but every painting brings me a bit closer....

Daniel Balanescu - Most of my works are inspired by the turmoil of our times. As an artist I have used different techniques and materials to bring my ideas to life silkscreen print-serigraph,fibre art design and experiments with fabric, threads, stitch, paint, text, wax and unusual mixed media materials Also, working on used subway tickets from 1995 give me a new way of dialog with other people and I also love to involve them in different art projects I have initiated....

Jim Stevens - Composition, value and form take center stage in my art. My work explores the combined impact of empty space and light in unique presentations that underscore drama and wonder. Legally blind, I see in the spaces between reality and in my art space becomes a shade, a tone, a tint, and even an invisible brush. I am an internationally collected and award winning artist and author. Retired from the University of Colorado, I studied art from an early age as an apprentice to master oil and watercolor painters, sculptors and stone and gem carvers. My diverse skill set and love of art in its many forms eventually guided me to the creation of my signature monofilament and abstract linear paintings....

Carlos Pardo - IN SHORT: INSPIRATION: Concious and unconcious perceptions, my background, all circunstances of my life, experiences, past and present, books and newspapers that I read, films, Internet aEUR|feelings, emotions and a fertile imagination sometimes, all them aid to weave a story that will change alongside the execution of a piece. In my opinion our tradition, for thousands of years, the Arts reflect the vision of a trascendent life beyond our tangible life. THEME: Unreal cityscapes let us a special kind of plasticity. The imagination and feelings are active agents that are modeling the perceptible reality. Transcendent and oniric themes entered and remain in my artwork. In my imaginary urban landscapes there are overlaid elements of towns he has visited, some imagined, and maybe dreamed, but all with a unique feminine soul. The Town is a mother, lover, or daughter of the actions, dreams and passions of those who dwell in them or recall them in the distance. It is an idea in which wander those who have been caught up in its infinite labyrinth. PROCESS: I usually have not idea about what I will show on the surface. There is a lack of a script or previous sketch. Forms are born...

John Maurer - An early affinity with the French impressionists and expressionists continues to influence my work along with several contemporary artists whom I find inspiring. I try to approach each new work with a fresh eye for color, line and textural variation. My choice of tools is primarily the palette knife but this has grown to include a greater use of brushes and paper towels into the painting process as well as charcoal and pastel. The subject matter is unlimited as I continue to travel in search of fresh, inspiring views. ...

Pat Heydlauff - I discovered my love for painting in 1993 as I was transitioning out of a stress filled career and exploring my creative side. As a colorist, I painted lively, vibrant mainstream artwork consisting of landscapes, florals and still-lifes. Through painting I noticed my life was becoming balanced, and filled with harmony instead of stress. Painting allowed me to discover my spiritual nature and peace within and lead me to paint in a stream of consciousness flowing with energy. This flow of consciousness energy is visible in my recent "art with a message" canvas work where you can always find hope, peace and joy in the subject matter and every brush stroke. Painting is the physical manifestation of my spiritual being. It is the flow of energy through paint onto a two dimensional canvas projecting three dimensional energy. I endeavor to convey a vital energy through sight with color and design. My inspirational and mainstream artwork can be placed in areas of the home and office to create an environment with balance, harmony and a flow of energy which enriches the viewer. I believe that in our world today with cement cities, sound pollution and isolated environments, it is difficult ...

Temo Svirely - Painting is not conceptual art. When someone looks at one of my paintings and asks me What did you want to say I find myself in a difficult position. That is, I've already said what I wanted to say through the medium of painting. With the help of color, rhythm and so on and to demand that I translate the language of art into the language of words is impossible, to say the least. I am an artist, not a writer , my materials are oil-paints, ink, pencils and so on, and not words. What else can I say Ideas and concepts are far from being the primary concerns of the artist. Enthusiasm for ideas not to be confused with artistic plans or intentions distracts the artist from the wealth of interrelation with the material, which itself dictates to him the right course and rewards with time and patience. Of course it is worth pondering on how to make a work more expressive, but a real artistic moment occurs when a pause arises in between thoughts. I will take the liberty of reminding you that art, a picture, can be understood by a man and influence him deeply, effortlessly ...

Terri Higgins - The deep ache that replaced the pleasure you used to have, the words someone said that you keep turning over and over in your head, the void inside that nothing seems to fill; these are some of the subjects I paint about. Location: Washington, DC Check out my website and blog:
