  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Will Birdwell - I started painting late in life read my BIO There are many things about art that I dont understand. I dont understand how a person can display a blank piece of canvas and call it art, AND, have others agree. With all do respect to Warhol, I didnt understand the soup cans either. I realize that many artists try to get the viewer to think. I get that, but I need a little more to work with. I want beauty. Many of my paintings are based on space. The universe. I have been fascinated by the Hubble telescope photographs since they first became available to the public. I think The Hubble is the most important piece of equipment ever created. I realize that others would argue for other technology and machines or Ideas that feed the belly. I get that, but Hubble feeds the mind. It creates and provides the most beautiful art available..........anywhere. It abolishes long held mythical superstitions about life itself. Thinking art. Far better than a soup can and blank canvas. WILL ...

Randel Rogers - My work is representational and nature-based. Nature is my starting point, in both theme and color. Inspiration comes from the push of the land, the sweep of the field or water, the angles of the tree line. Motivation comes from local color with the light playing against it. Moving from a mode of realism towards abstraction helps to give my colors more expressive power. Some of the influences on my art have been the romanticism of Turner, the intense emotion of Van Gogh, the basic simplicity of Milton Avery, the intimacy and refinement of Georgia O'Keefe, the mystery and originality of Susan Rothenberg, and the startling effects of the luscious color combinations of Wolf Kahn. Oils are my preferred medium, but I often paint en plein air with soft pastels - their portability makes for easier access to vistas. Often my landscapes are from peripheral glimpses that shimmer and grab my attention, and demand to be recorded. I work from a six color primary palette. I usually have a number of works in progress at any time; really, I spend more time interacting with the canvas, almost meditating with it, than I do actively painting on it; then the...

Valery Veselovsky - The poetry of Russian scenery and of rural life in this country, high aesthetic qualities of old Russia's architecture full and inspire his art. His intention is not to delineate the image of a particular piece of scenery, but to bring out through art what is common for Middle Russia's nature in it. A picture to him is not just an enlarged and polished up sketch, but the product of imagination, generalizations. The wealth of colours artist uses in his spring and autumn landscapes is innumerable. Mixing paints is a technique of last resort for Valery, and he leaves to each colour its own power, freshness and shine to speak for itself. Veselovsky is a tireless experimentalist. He experiments with texture and materials in order to achieve beautiful colors. Trying to achieve spontaneity and freedom in his treatment of colours Master explores their possiblities by using rough and smooth textures or by making use of paste-like gabs. Frequently uses heavy canvas material suchas jute or burlap to achieve texture. Many of his works are an intricate cross between genre and landscape painting. People are not just present in his pictures, but they live in them as they ...

Hem Raj - I had read it somewhere that space is something in which things exist and in which all movements take place (otherwise it is nothing!) This relationship between space, existence and movement has stuck in my mind over the decades of my working life as an artist. In all my works I have been dealing with space. And all the forms and objects therein have served as residents of that space - forms and objects with their own dynamics, their own identities and functions. However, I have taken care, that the forms and objects I introduced in my picture space, well integrate with the space they are lodged into and perform a function that amounts to just declaring their existence and their right to exist therein (whether in harmony or conflict). These forms and objects have a function (the function I decide them to be performing). And that function is generally decided by the space I allot them. And they are made to exhibit a lively interest in both their existence and environment. However, I generally divide my pictorial space in order to create both depth and mood. Here comes in my architectural sense which I have been developing over the years. ...

Francisco Landazabal - In a world where life passes too quickly and the instant runs away suddenly I chose to live calmly to study the inner nature of things. I have been my entire life enquiring about the whole reality, and hence my journey through various disciplines like fine arts, philosophy and even technology. My art is a human art, where being in touch with people and nature is extremely important, but then, I always return to the silent retreat of my Atelier in the mountains of Colombia to find the essence of things on the tip of my brushes and painting knives which results in the form of colorful and vibrant compositions, where a sort of magic is revealed. Sometimes it is very close to impressionism or expressionism, and sometimes it is fully abstract, a dance of the mere color masses and shades changing to allow the watcher to dream and complete the artwork. ...
