Eduardo Diaz - Statement My name is Eduardo DIaz and Iim a Mexican artist residing in the Bay Area since 2001. In my work I express different elements of Mexican culture, while emphasizing its Native American heritage. I incorporate native themes and images, both extant and prehispanic, into my works and combine them with personal feelings, experiences or fears. Although cultural elements are the essence of my art, through them I also like to express political and social opinions. As a Mexican, I feel in touch with the problems at the Mexican-American border, as well as with the issues facing Mexican immigrants. I also like to express the tension between the indigenous and the industrialized worlds, and to analyze the different elements that make up Mexican identity, especially when confronted with life in a different country. My favorite medium is oil painting. I use vivid and deep colors, with which I reflect the light of the Mexican sun. Some of my compositions are figurative, and oscillate between realistic scenes and more elaborated images, with affinity to surrealism. My most recent productions are less figurative and combine the same vivid colors into expressive abstract constructions. Biography My name is Eduardo D...

Joel P Heinz Sr. - Joel P Heinz Sr. was born in Hastings, Minnesota; raised and educated in Northern California: served in the Army in Viet Nam, and raised a family in California. He worked in various sales positions until he found his calling working with mentally disabled adults. He is now retired and living his dream in Maui with his wife, Kathy. In 1995, Joel began painting using acrylic paint on canvas with no formal art training. His artwork evolved from associating with other artists and the joy of experimenting and discovery. In the beginning, his favorite subject was Tropical Marine, colorful tropical landscapes and underwater scenes. As part of the evolution of his art, he dabbled in Egyptian art for a short time in order to practice working in detail, a noticeable characteristic of most of his artwork on canvas. For years he had appreciated artwork from a distance only to be disappointed in the lack of detail when viewed close up. He wanted his work on canvas to be detailed enough to be clearly seen whether viewed up close or from a distance. In the 21 years prior to moving to Maui, Joel's twice-annual visits to Maui cultivated an appreciation ...

Louise Couillard - The power of colours and the infinite possibilities for experimentation they offer is something that fascinates and inspires me day after day. I am attracted to the unusual, the unexpected and the extraordinary. As an abstract painter, I abandon myself to emotions and moods, trusting my gut feeling and tapping into the spirit of the moment. I use colours ,forms and textures to bring across my feelings and ideas and give them an aesthetic wholeness. Live painting sessions are a great inspirational source of energy, this is why I truly love participating in those events. Recent work in acrylics comprises experimentation with different styles, such as a body of work characterized by the washing off of the medium with a lot of water, giving the paintings a fluid and dripping look. Typical work in a subsequent period would feature extensive use of the spatula, resulting in a strong texture with thick layers of paint. Paintings from this period are filled with boundless energy as a result of a technique that permits extreme creative freedom. Current work is characterized by more subtle nuances, often finger painted, but also by an exploration of a new world of extreme contrasts, where emotions are ...

Nicole Peņa - In many of my paintings I depict entranced individuals who are seduced into a musical and psychic celebration. A song lives within the space of my canvas enrapturing participants to sway to its vibrations and experience its sensual essence. In one painting a frenzied conga compels hips to gyrate and eyes to close while in another a gentle psalm inspires as it soothes the soul. In these works, rhythm liberates the body and frees the spirit by compelling the participants to combine sensual movements with soulful meditations....

Roger Farr - Born in Much Wenlock Shropshire, England 1957.One of 14. My family life and upbringing was in the countryside. Always having a love for wildlife and animals, Archibald Thorburn,Fenwick Landsdowne,Raymond Harris Ching,David Shepherd,Rembrant and Mary Cassat were great influences in the early stages and latter stages of my work, this was complimented with having a grandfather who was an artist and a father who was a gamekeeper. Much of my work was self taught up to the age of 18, this was when my first sale of original paintings took place in Salt Spring Island, Canada.Bought by a collector of wildlife paintings who had noticed my work through a member of my family who lives there. In 1985 I started to work for Shropshire Trust For Nature Conservation, providing illustrations of wildlife subjects for schools and colleges. My work started to be recognised and other opportunities arose including other wildlife and community based projects. Whilst visiting Shropshire Conservation Group one day, David Attenborough commented that I should develop this skill further. So in 1993 after a four year course I obtained a BA(Hons) in Visual Communication, specialising in Illustration at Wolverhampton University. On graduating ...

Pier Mascanzoni - I'm italian, born in Milan and living in Bardolino near Garda lake. Art is an integral part of my life which reveals it self in many forms and media. It is very difficult for me to write about my paintings for a number of reasons. The fist is simply becouse in the past my style has changed so often that anything written down seems later to have no revelance to current work or simply expresses ideas....

Ashley Hancock - "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary," said Pablo Picasso. The canvas is my journal in which I paint my thoughts on life and my environment, ideas, emotions, and observation of others and myself. I am not interested in recreating what the human eye can see just by "looking." I strive to bring forth both my subconscious and conscious emotions and my perceptions in a visual form, primarily through oil painting. ...

James Simpson - Howdy! Sandpainting is an Ancient Art known across the Globe. My introduction to the Art was through contact with the Dine` of the Southwest United States. I met Joe Ben Jr. in Northern New Mexico in 1984 and was Honored to assist him in searching for pigments to complete a group of Sandpaintings for the Indian Fair in Santa Fe. Along the way, i picked up the essentials of Sandpainting and found my niche in this very traditional Art. My Paintings do not reflect the Way of the Navajo, but do use Southwest Themes and utilise various Gems and Minerals which are collected by Hand....

Dorothy Nuckolls - I am a self taught artist. I have been painting for about 30 years. My love of art began as a child. The awesome beauty of nature and the magic of color always intrigued me. To reproduce God's art; wheather it be outdoor sences, or portairts; has always been a goal for me. I started doing portairts in 2002 and realize that, that was what I really loved to do.Now I specialize mostly in portairts. I hope you enjoy my collection as much as I enjoyed painting it. Dorothy Nuckolls...
