  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Monica Puryear - My paintings and drawings portray personal stories, dreams and fantasies of my deep connection with nature. I frequently use animals and plants that intersect in some way to create a feeling of intimacy and mystery. I use vivid colors and rich details of my subjects in the hope of inticing the viewer into my world to discover and relish the beauty they possess. It is my intention to provide the viewer with a respite from the violent imagery that is so prevalent in our daily lives, so one may enter into a richly colored world in a moment of intense beauty....

Marino Chanlatte - I started painting a long time before I realized it was my passion, and that I would be a painter. I felt the inner need to express through painting, in a freely and spontaneous way, my feelings, thoughts, ideas and fantasies that appeared as visions ... I use color, texture, shapes, light, and shadows to express myself. If my work communicates any emotion or feeling to the viewer, then I accomplished my purpose....

Jim Lively - Whether portrayed in the abstract, realism, or somewhere in between, I am most influenced by both the beautiful and unattractive components of contemporary urban culture. Many times, one painting will reflect both components. My art tends to focus upon interesting juxtapositions of close-up images of human faces. Often, the larger images border upon realism and are caught expressing a panoply of emotions usually directed at the other images that share the canvas. Several of my recent works such as the tongue in cheek entitled "Lenin and Things" contain unlikely combinations of images such as a statue of Lenin which is dwarfed by a billboard size fashion model displaying a vacuous stare. A number of works contain both large images and interrelated small images. For example in the painting "Staring at Natalie", all the smaller images are a depiction of a collective group of voyeurs staring at a larger image of a posed fashion model. I want those viewing the painting to be the ultimate voyeur. The viewer is not only drawn initially to the larger image in its own right but also cannot help but then notice the relationship of the smaller images to the large image. Works displayed ...

Kloska Ovidiu - I cannot imagine how one can possibly see behind this work how much time and effort it took for me to develop this unique space that defines me now. I have discovered angels when I almost got drowned three times the same summer and I pray every time at dawn for God to exist. I have discovered real art in Iasi galleries an in the art albums from the second-hand book seller on Lapusneanu street. I have started then sleeping on pillows smelling like linen, with canvas on the walls and under the bed. I have never eaten paints, though in the first grades I drunk the water for the aquarelle. And here I am, young, continuously wandering and dedicated, sending invitations to an imaginary park for preserving the soul. Most of the plastic themes used, the symbols and shapes included in my work, are taken out from a reality spoiled by time, and then they are reshaped in a special way in my opinion. The most important theme is the wall. Constantly fascinated, this dynamism of shape opens up in a unique way, by projecting a sway of mind, a mind performance with neurological circuits. This is my aEURoe...

Mark Schwing - Ideally the artist is employed by society at large. The artist helps define culture and culture makes us who we are in whatever time and place we are at. Of course most of us are not living in caves anymore but even then art helped society function; helped the hunter hunt, showed people what to do. Art is still showing people what to do in a way. Whether it is raising awareness by showing what is going on, teaching by example or simply exploring ideas that give people ideas. My art is about ideas as much as anything else but it is a surrealistic and intuitive approach. So what is presented isn't a literal interpretation, it is more like exploring the idea with art. It is really another reality. It mirrors our reality and/or it is influenced by our reality. I can't help but be affected by what is going on around me and I am interested in the transcendental as well. Please visit my website, www.markschwing1.com, for more images....

Rumen Petkov - The beams of the sunrise caress the shapes and slowly reveals their beauty and new colours. In my childhood this fountain scattering colourful drops flooded the forest, the fields, the houses and the people I saw. This fountain still continues to colour my every encounter with nature. I am a spectator and a participant in a process in which the beauty of this world creates new images that give wings to inspiration. The painting is an attempt to preserve the transient beauty of life and an opportunity to start a new friendship. The movement of the brush gives birth to a fairy-tale world and this magic is fascinating. It surprises me every time, it charges me with curiosity and shows me unknown lands. Paintings allow us, whenever we wish, to enter into their world of reflections and feelings, full of the vitality and eternal youth of the emotion. I am happy to be close to the world inspired by the colourful lights of my childhood dream. I am happy I can draw it and share it with friends, I can show my paintings and sculptures and start a dialogue. ...

Emilia Milcheva - Welcome to my world of art and love for the nature! My name is Emilia. I beliDuve I was born an artist. It took me some time in my childhood to understand which art suits me best. I tried almost every art stage until I found the art of painting and I stopped looking further. My passion for drawing and fine art actually and unexpectedly started with a dress of my mama. It was a white trico dress with purple-red-to pink roses printed on it /I hope you still remember the elegant feminine fashion of 70ies-80iesaEUR|./ Seemed to me like the beauty of the whole world was captured in that dress. So I started painting roses. And I have never stopped painting ever since. Thus and thanks to that lovely dress I found the happiness of painting at a very early age and I discovered the power that it gave me to express myself, to tell people what I see and how I see it. For so many years now, the nature is still the main source of inspiration for me. I am deeply touched and I admire the organic order and the harmony of nature. ...

Denise Dalzell - ItaEURtms all about Interaction. Communication. Conveying a shared experience with color, light, shadow, and the framing of a scene. How do we, as people of differing backgrounds, cultures, and histories interact with each other How do we respond to one another Where do we fit in Will we know when we get there Will we realize, perhaps while in the middle of a crowd, where that will be Stories can come from anywhere, and thereaEURtms no predicting where theyaEURtmll be revealed. My paintings are illustrations, pictures waiting to be paired with text. Color, movement, body language, movement, the contrast of light and shadow, the encounters, settings, the people that I encounter who are also in the midst of being on their way. What does their body language say about them My future as an Illustrator was inevitable. I have been drawing, working with color, since I was three. As a child, one of my favorite school activities was writing a story, then illustrating it. In College, I avoided painting, preferring markers, and then colored pencil. Once I tried painting with Acrylics, I combined them with pencil and started painting seriously. At first, I painted old signs and...
