Artists Describing Their Art:
Animesh Roy - "I don't pretend that I paint because I want to say something or convey a message. So, please don't read any hidden meanings into my paintings. I paint because I like to portray the happier side of life -- beautiful landscapes, for example -- because I think that there are enough artists painting the morbid side." "I love to travel because that's where the so-called inspiration comes, so I hope to travel more, paint and be generally happy." -- Excerpt from an interview....
Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...
Megan Archer - I am investigating issues surrounding the presupposed ideas of beauty, style, and glamour. My work focuses on the exterior properties of a subject as it perhaps masks inner turmoil. Costume, pose, and stance tend to identify a type rather than describe a person, and my portraits are of social products. To put make-up on a child, and to turn him/her into an adult's static conception of what childhood means, denies the authenticity of the nature of a child and is inherently artificial: the notion of wholesomeness is perverted by the manipulation and marketing of this artificial image. Society's obsession with eternal youth manifests itself into the performing child. While pictures of posed'stars' exude a vacuity which appear less than human, at the same time we have a sentimentality towards our pets - projecting human qualities on them. I focus on the image and loss of identity in order to describe a kind of compelling yet disturbing beauty that I see. I magnify the visual and encourage my own technique to evoke a sense of history in relation to contemporary culture such as in traditional portraiture. By doing this, I am hoping to create a sense of ...
Lisa Reinke - Recognize yourself, someone, everyone and no one in my faces - celebrate color in the shape of a nose, the curve of the ears, the mask of the eyes, and the lines of the lips and hair. Most of all remember the humanity in humanity. The human face inspires me. As humans, we respond to its image beyond all others. For all its familiarity, we rarely pause to consider the face as a visual form, something more than the recognition of a friend or an interaction with a stranger. I paint the face in ways to cause the viewer to reconsider its splendor and renew faith in all things human. Colors and sunlight playing across faces remind me of our connection to the universe and symbolize eternal and fleeting moments simultaneously. I love how we recognize and explore human faces for clues to identity and personality. I am happy to be creating my work and hope that my art inspires you to look around and see the world as a vibrant and exciting place where the most amazing patterns are on display all the time. Philip Goodrich - I strive to create lasting images that transcend trends. I want to perpetually travel the earth in search of perfect waves for surfing, and beautiful subjects to immortalize in my paintings. When I push the limits of my physical body, it releases my mind to relive incredible moments of my life. As I stand and draw, these memories guide my hand and I begin to groove and flow....
Rob Alban - I was interested in portraiture and landscapes when I was in my late teens/early 20s but within the past few years I've focused on abstract art as it is a style that I find extremely enjoyable. I have a real passion for colour and seeing the effects created through blending one colour with another and by incorporating swirls and curves into a painting. I love creating movement in most of my work so that the viewer moves their eyes across the whole canvas, going from one colour to another, following the flow of swirls and curves. I studied Fine Art at the UCE Birmingham (now Birmingham City University) from 2002-2005 and exhibited in the RBSA gallery and Debenhams department store in Birmingham with large airbrushed paintings. My website euphoriaart.co.uk offers original hand painted abstract art made on triple primed, deep edge canvas. Commissions are very welcome and can be made up to a 72" x 48" size per canvas. If you would like to know more please visit the site for details. Payment through the site is via Paypal but cheques are also welcome....
Fotini Hamidieli - In all of my current work I basically use the same technique with a few variations of the materials. I approach works on paper in the same way as works on canvas using different kinds of paper mostly transparent and creating layers by juxtaposing various qualities of paper and colour. During this process I start working on the composition which sometimes can be covered up and later again be revealed somewhat changed. This way the work is kept fluent, continually changing. Inks, acrylic paint, oil crayons, watercolour pencils, charcoal are used to achieve desired effects. A few words about the subject For many years I've been painting figures of women. These women have been changing and growing at the same time I did, expressing things I felt. There are different series of works presented here but their subject is relative as the main theme deals with mirrors. A mirror may not actually be depicted in every work but what is pictured can be seen as a mirror image, even as an image of the spectator ...
