  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Tari Eszter - In my art the rules that I set up for myself play an important role, the reason for this being that within the framework of these rules I can make use of the opportunity of boundless freedom by means of my acquired knowledge and the reception of new inspirations. Since 2007 I have been working on a series whose members are unfolding from one another, the point of departure being four basic elements inspired by the Javanese batik. With the help of these shapes I create colorful and intricate networks which are without any mechanic fixation and are greatly variegated due to the utilization of the infiltrating accident. The networks are placed above one another as intertwining planes. These structural systems can stand on their own ("Faktor" series), but they can establish illusionary spaces as well ("Intro" series) or even contradictory spaces ("Simbion" series). At the same time in this painterly world figural elements may appear too ("Factor-Organic" series). In my painting I mingle my occidental cultural foundation with inspirations of the oriental culture in a peculiar way. In my opinion it is indispensable for an artist to be open to the world, to widen knowledge continuously. To achieve ...

Mikhail Evstafiev - "Instead of imitating reality, I prefer to interpret it, at times distorting it to achieve an emotional effect, playing with shapes, forms and colours, scratching a finished canvas to reveal the inner beauty of the layers beneath." Mikhail EVSTAFIEV ...

Yuming Zhu - I land my brush with the force of a giant rock splashing into the ocean. I am not looking for a beautiful painting, but to express Life itself. Painting is just like a stacking of passions. Painting is a method of striping myself naked and facing the truth of my inner emotion. I invite the viewer to experience through my paintings the joy of being alive right at this moment. I believe I can do lots of things, but painting and poetry are the best beloved channels to express my complicated emotions. Originally from Shanghai, Yuming began studying under the masters at a young age. After his BA from China, Yuming came to the States and graduated from Sonoma State University with his MA in 1991. Working in oils, pastels and ChineseSumi Watercolors, Yumings work is a unique blend of East meets West artistry. It is a style that Yuming refers to as Transism, in reference to the constantly evolving interests, which include observations on modern life, a love of music, and an exploration of his own unique heritage. I paint to achieve balance and harmony. Once I reach that, I will for sure break itaEUR aEURoeMy art is just...

Jerry Ross - Manifesto of American Verismo By Jerry Ross, 2012 "American verismo", a movement that I have recently founded, is a catch-all phrase for an artistic style that draws its main inspiration from Italian art, both classical and modern. There is an implied nostalgia for work done "dal vero" (after life) whether classical (Raphael, Rubens, or Caravaggio, etc.) or 19th century (the Tuscan I Macchiaioli school) or more contemporary. Verismo is somewhat akin to contemporary "atelier realism" but the latter has been criticized for an academic uniformity and its over attention to details. American verismo is more poetic and linked to post-impressionism, the Milan-based Scapigliatura ('wild hair') movement, and the I Machiaioli's commitment to social issues. But like atelier realism, American verismo is associated with a painterly sketching style, use of broad brushstrokes, and the alla prima, "direct attack" technique of painting. It is also linked to all'aperto (open air) impressionist-style landscape painting. In short, to pleinairism which has become widely popular in recent years. I first introduced the term during several classes he taught at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene and then later at the "Angels Fight Road Art Center" plein air retreat...

Christophe Bourely - LIE/LAY SERIES Despite their aggression toward nature and each other human beings are fragile animals. In this series, I explore poses in which figures could either be at rest, exercising, meditating or simply be dead. The lack of background emphasizes the abstract quality of the figures and the uncertainty of the situation. Are these figures lying or have they been laid? Lie or lay? It will be up to the viewer to decide. ...

Hanne Lore Koehler - The unique contemporary style, a sort of impressionistic realism, of Canadian artist, author illustrator, Hanne Lore Koehler has developed naturally in her watercolors, oil and acrylic paintings. Choose from a wide range of subjects including action-packed sports art, energetic portraits, landscapes, still life, fantasy and children's book illustrations or commission a custom painting. "I have splashed powerful action sports on watercolor canvases for the Canadian Olympic Association and stroked a gentle brush to capture elusive moments of light and mood on oil canvases for private and corporate collectors. My subjects are as varied as my interests and I adjust my style to suit the mood of my subjects but the finished painting always exudes my love of life. I try always to remain true to my objective and motto: to satisfy the eye with form, the mind with purpose and the soul with imagination". ...

Kristen Thiele - My current work deals with the settings, the dress, the accoutrements, and the gestures that signify a desirable life, and the participation of people who activate these elements as a form of ritual. It's about the potential for excess and the details that make it proper; the artifice and drama that make ordinary things magical. My imagery is derived from the motion pictures of the 1930s and 40s. They align with the concept of artifice in their opulence and escapist themes. The paintings are about the fleeting, the missing, and the unattainable. As paintings however, they become things that may be attained. There is both the sense of distance in time, coupled with the immediacy of the new, as these concepts and images are reintroduced into our contemporary consciousness....

Diamantis Stagidis - I have not studied in any school of art, because the painting is passion and this is not taught. I do not consider myself self -taught but self educated. I assume that Caravaggio and Rembrand are my teachers. I have studied forestry in the university. The station of my work is my painting " did Rembrand knows Altamira ?" at 2002. Looking at this painting, someone could see the " "night patrol" of rembrand painted on a rock surface of a cave, someone else could see an abstract painting with many colors here and there that luckily resulted in that classic piece of art (as, according to the theory of chaos, a chimpanzee pressing randomly the keyboard of a typewriter has the possibility to write Shakespeare ) some other could see a detrited cave painting of Altamira, which when rembrand faced it with its mat colors, he painted his classical work. I was puzzled for months why the "night patrol" was so perfect piece of artwork? It was not, of course, because Rembrand painted nicely 20 - 30 people. But because of the perfect lines, colors, excellent light, everything on it was wisely painted in a perfect way with the right quantities in the space. ...

Claire Petit - In my work, beings of dream and intimacy migrate slowly to the merry-go-round of birth, death, and rebrith. Different periods and series rub shoulders in my decades of paintings. Duality breathes deeply, and from one life to the next, powerful feminine energy dominates moving, introspective, multiple, often wrapped in a gentle violence. Since 1989, I have been traveling and working between France and the United States. I had my first solo show in 1999 at the 24 Gallery in New York City. In 2004 my work was represented and exhibited at the Grant Gallery. In 2005 I left for Mexico, where I maintained a studio for three months in Oaxaca. From 2005 to 2010, my work was represented and exhibited by the Opera Gallery in New York City. During those years I regularly painted in New York. Since 2010 my work has been exhibited in Paris, Brussels, Luxembourg Metz. My studio is in Nancy, where I live. Edward Tabachnik - Edward Tabachnik Through all my works you will find that my attitude toward color and light combines tradition of impressionism with various surrealistic situations. Working on illustrations for Kafka's novels, I was looking for a symbolic image of a mystical town. I found it in Gaudi's "Sagrada Familia". Almost on each of my paintings you can see my "signature"- flying phantasmagoria tower, which has become for me a living entity, procreating itself, connecting The Past with The Future. Fascinated with the theory of Black Holes and the origin of The World is also reflected in many paintings in the form of "Singularity", through which Time passes, connecting The Past with The Future. I was always attracted to mystery of Kabbalah, and to other Jewish teachings. Many of my works are related to these themes. After seeing the destroyed Synagogue in Berlin, I've "recreated" it in my painting, and also dedicated a number of my works to Jewish History. In my works I try to blend my fantasy with sometimes well known, sometimes created architectural details. My schooling was both - in architecture and painting. My love for architecture can be seen through many of my works. There is ...

Kees Van Eyck - My works of art express a metarealistic perception of our world, traditional in the history of Dutch painting. However, the source of my inspiration can also be found in European surrealism as well in American hyper-, and photo realism. In my collection Portraits of Icons of the post-war period of the 20th century I introduced the iconography of our era. These images of celebrities characterise movie-stars, media personalities plus inspirational individuals from the field of music, art, politics and philosophy. With these portraits I pay tribute to famous people with extraordinary gifts and talents, who influenced the development of mankind and left their mark on various fields during the 20th century. My perception of life on Earth is often depicted in a surrealistic manner. My attitude towards our environment is charged with criticism as well as hope for a better future. My paintings aspire to evoke the sense of beauty and to raise awareness of burning issues in todays world....

    Kees Van Eyck -
