  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Alexander Sadoyan - My paintings are inspired from the human life in conjunction with landscape of nature's abstract color-forms.With association of color and shapes,I strive to communicate my feelings and convey inner-personal emotions.Memories, experiences are the essence of my esthetical awareness which find visual language of there own inseparable from the future and exists into absolution....

Christophe Bourely - LIE/LAY SERIES Despite their aggression toward nature and each other human beings are fragile animals. In this series, I explore poses in which figures could either be at rest, exercising, meditating or simply be dead. The lack of background emphasizes the abstract quality of the figures and the uncertainty of the situation. Are these figures lying or have they been laid? Lie or lay? It will be up to the viewer to decide. ...

Jerry Ross - Manifesto of American Verismo By Jerry Ross, 2012 "American verismo", a movement that I have recently founded, is a catch-all phrase for an artistic style that draws its main inspiration from Italian art, both classical and modern. There is an implied nostalgia for work done "dal vero" (after life) whether classical (Raphael, Rubens, or Caravaggio, etc.) or 19th century (the Tuscan I Macchiaioli school) or more contemporary. Verismo is somewhat akin to contemporary "atelier realism" but the latter has been criticized for an academic uniformity and its over attention to details. American verismo is more poetic and linked to post-impressionism, the Milan-based Scapigliatura ('wild hair') movement, and the I Machiaioli's commitment to social issues. But like atelier realism, American verismo is associated with a painterly sketching style, use of broad brushstrokes, and the alla prima, "direct attack" technique of painting. It is also linked to all'aperto (open air) impressionist-style landscape painting. In short, to pleinairism which has become widely popular in recent years. I first introduced the term during several classes he taught at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene and then later at the "Angels Fight Road Art Center" plein air retreat...

Pedro Martin De Clet - Born: Brooklyn; New York. Raised:New Haven; Connecticut. "I am completely self-taught. & although I work in all mediums, I consider myself first & foremost a Painter. My subject matter is everything having to do with life. Love, hate, joy, fear, pain, happiness, sorrow, & everything in between. I Paint what others can't or won't. I believe that ideas are only as good as the content that embodies them. I Paint the truth. I have no time to waste. Neither the viewers, nor mine. I leave that to the pretenders & posers, content on ideas without substance & clean hands. Painting should be as real as the Paint on the canvas, or piece of paper; or what have you. I do not mean that it has to be figurative, but that it should carry the weight & conviction of a soul. Then if it is any good, the viewer will either love it, or hate it. & this is what I am after." pedro ...

Martha Hayden - My painting is both realistic and abstract, it is on that elusive edge between there and not there. On first look everything is in place, then all dissolves. I want realism and abstraction to take turns. I want a painting sometimes very evocative of time and place, sometimes overwhelming in abstract, structural logic. I look for a surprise, a drama, a different way of seeing. I try not to see anything for itself alone, but as a part of the whole. In this context, my subjects take on meanings other than the accustomed ones. They are more than still life and landscape; they are comments on thinking and seeing. ...

Malgorzata Karp-Soja - Malgorzata Karp-Soja was born in Krakow, Poland. She Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where studied painting under Prof. Stanislaw Wisniewski and drawing under Prof. Allan Rzepka. During the study was also rewarded with a stipendium in Italy. She has had more than 20 individual exhibitions and took a part in more than 40 group exhibitions, contests and charity auctions. Her paintings can be found in private collections in Poland, Austria, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden and the USA. ...

J Osl - James Ooi was a writer for a number of years, publishing short stories in various media. Professionally he is a chartered accountant from the UK. Having worked many years, he found that painting to be an outlet for expression of his creativity. He decided to explore painting seriously over the past year. A local Kuala Lumpur boy, he studied at Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur and later furthered his studies in Chartered Accountancy and completed his MBA from Australia a few years later. As a person, he loves to read and is quiet and reflective by nature. His favorite books are Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and Ignorance by Milan Kundera. His ideas are mostly influenced by his life experiences, his philosophy in life and also his hopes for the future. In his paintings, you will find bright variety of colors which are his way of expressing his positive outlook in life as it is His painting themes are mostly abstract expressions, the concept of duality of life, of the positive and the negative and if you like, the yin and the yang. A Quote from James on his paintings: "Colors and pictures are never squeaky clean and perfect because life is ...

Michael Kehrlein - painter, sculptor, textile artist ,My creations fit perfectly(sic) in a wabi sabi urban zen environment. Because I stubbornly believe all the care my hands give to each and every process of my textile creations or stone sculpture creates something more than just a "look." It may be subtle, but you know when you wear or touch. You know when that piece ages with you. You feel the thought of that person, who made it for you, the invisible. I work with "slow" materials, not flashy, not necessary pretty, not cheap, not easy, but those that will give a soul to the piece. I would like to offer you the best and unique. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. ...

Bé Van Der Heide - Artist Statement I do work mostly in series. The images shown in my portfolio are examples of different series all executed over the last ten years. Some of the latest series such as "Dance of the transient forms" and "Collapse" have recently been exhibited in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain. The most extensive series is called the "ENFANT TERRIBLE" series. These are drawings and paintings, mostly of a little girl and her family and friends. The rather menacing images of a seemingly helpless frightened little girl, being held tight or prettied up with bows in her hair, are inspired by photographs in my family album. In these drawings I am not interested in a photographic likeness, but I try to express a feeling about these people in the pictures. Part of the series were shown in the LCP Gallery in London during summer 2002 and in the Mas Poch Gallery in Spain November 2003. The series before "Enfant Terrible" is called: "WEBS", inspired by the sight of insects, leaves, dried up larvae; all caught in a Spiders web underneath a box on top of one of my work tables in the studio. They have been considerably enlarged; some paintings...

Areshidze George - There was a man, he came into being, and he lived He was born every morning and died every night. He created to see, otherwise he couldn't perceive People moved around him, and he painted their motions. People moved so fast that they saw only the visual side of things and made a big thing out of it. The man wasn't interested in that. Why? - Because he couldn't stop. He had no alternative. People thought he did what he did for pleasure, for beauty, others thought he had nothing else to do. Only one person knew what he was actually looking for and that person was him Who is hurt by permanent protest but the one who protests? I know that but only confrontation can reveal the truth And there was a Trout that swam against the current. As the time passed he felt the world around him. He used to go where the live emotions swam and caught them. Then he would return to canvas. Emotion deadly but short. In a few hours everything was over - the man was happy. But for half an hour only One hour passed and he would return to fishing on ...
