  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Branka Moser - Branka Moser, academic painter and sculptor Branka Moser's paintings, it is a strikingly surreal vision from the fluid brush and fertile imagination of an artist whose remarkable ability to translate subjective feelings into universal images, has won her considerable acclaim and numerous awards.

Hemant Bhavsar - Hemant Bhavsar was born in Ahmedabad, India. He started his portrait painting work at the age 16 with his father Mr. B.K. Bhavsar, very talented & famous artist in Gujarat, India. Art of painting is in his blood & he has developed it in portrait paintings very much. Hemant Bhavsar confesses that it is a god gift to him that he has received in heritance. He enjoys his each portrait painting. He believes that this is not only the work but it is worship. In his family he has his brother Mr. Satish Bhavsar who also is very matured artist. both the brothers work together at their studio. The third generation in his family also is in the field of art. Their sons Brijesh, Mehul & Hiren are also busy in painting world. The portraits of noted artist Hemant B. Bhavsar reflects realism in the classical tradition. An exact likeness of the subject is conveyed in his portraits, which also portray the spirit and sense of presence of the individual in a sensitive and dignified manner. This is achieved through his extensive knowledge of the craft of painting, and over thirty-five years of experience in the field of portraiture. Hemant Bhavsar, ...

Heriberto Luna - By embellishing pre -Columbian imagery with contemporary and personal elements, I strive to embody the intersection of Mexico's history, in all its depth and beauty, with the lived contexts of my era. I ground my work in Mayan iconography, using richly textured backgrounds and a chromatically satisfying palette of complimentary colors to draw viewers into the world of the painting. The life of each painting, however, is concentrated in the figure's eyes, as if the spirit of the heritage that inhabits me looks back from the world behind the canvas ...

Simon Blackwood - About the paintings of Simon Blackwood The property of beauty is to shine. Its' light extends infinitely both inwardly and outwardly. It is both overwhelming and inspiring and whatever it illuminates is consumed as it is also created by it. In short, beauty is not partial. I have chosen to follow a spiritual orientation toward all things I do. The road and the destination in this journey is the love of beauty. (A statement inspired by the writings of Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi and Jelaleddin Rumi.) Painting is a metamorphosis from base elements into an image of another reality beyond those original elements. It can allude to sublime ideals through subject matter or by the means of the juxtaposition of colour, shape and form. At best it reveals the highest aspirations of man striving to praise the gift of intelligence, love of beauty and life itself. Paintings can recall or remind us by illusory means; they may also point towards something beyond the material object of the 'tableau' hanging on a wall. The paintings represented here also attempt, without abstraction, to point beyond the subject matter, alluding to the hidden, in the world of man, that gives rise to his creativity. ...

Vassilis Karakatsanis - 'Alcohol 2009-2010' Catalogue 10/2010 ATHENS Wishing to interpret a work of art through a written text is undoubtedly a difficult task and I often wonder whether it is even necessary. A multitude of pages are written every day all over the world with the purpose of explaining the existence, necessity and worth of various instances of artistic expression. In and of itself, this may trick the writer into stating points of view that grow out of the tendencies of a particular era, out of a stagnant aesthetic, out of people who say one thing and do another and, through this process, give a nod of approval to an "ego" that is adventitious, selfish, and falsely illustrated, while they forget that the approach to art requires poise, profound knowledge, simplicity and honesty. Considering the speed with which, in the past few years, legions of artists have surfaced, the parameter that is used to measure the art trade as carried out by certain people who view their artistic work as shares in a unique yet nonetheless effective stock market, and whose sole purpose is financial gain, is an actual fact and, as far as many are concerned, lawful in a...

Giorgio Tuscani - The techniques in my paintings are many, but there is only one subject matter that I am most intrigued with and that is the Soul. And what is more beautiful and complex than the human body which houses your Soul. So, the majority of my paintings will be that of the human body. I want my art to focus on what the world is in desperate need of and that is "unconditional love." Through my art, I can take the world to a place of romance, kindness, a place of unconditional love. I can take the world to a place where the soul is illuminated through poetry and art. A shifting of the consciousness is needed...my art is the portal to that place. I have to stop thinking in order to start creating...art comes from my soul not my mind. It is time to take the road NOT traveled and awaken the soul. We have been sleepwalking through life long enough. ...

Hem Raj - I had read it somewhere that space is something in which things exist and in which all movements take place (otherwise it is nothing!) This relationship between space, existence and movement has stuck in my mind over the decades of my working life as an artist. In all my works I have been dealing with space. And all the forms and objects therein have served as residents of that space - forms and objects with their own dynamics, their own identities and functions. However, I have taken care, that the forms and objects I introduced in my picture space, well integrate with the space they are lodged into and perform a function that amounts to just declaring their existence and their right to exist therein (whether in harmony or conflict). These forms and objects have a function (the function I decide them to be performing). And that function is generally decided by the space I allot them. And they are made to exhibit a lively interest in both their existence and environment. However, I generally divide my pictorial space in order to create both depth and mood. Here comes in my architectural sense which I have been developing over the years. ...

Renso Castaneda - From Peru, I have been painting about 10 years, I have always been mesmerized by the human form, my current work concentrates on the nude, and surrealism, and the medium that I use is oil. My interest is focused in the different aspects of the human relationship, the feelings, the emotions, love, and pain. When I paint I like to add drama by adding light and shadow enhancements to get more _expression to accent the theme of every painting. I have several collectives exhibitions and 15 solo show, I have been showing my artwork in South America, United States, and Europa (Spain) ...

John Lynch - John Lynch is a painter, currently working in thr San Francisco bay area. Most of his work is done in the mediums oil on canvas, and oil and acrylic on paper. He has been influenced by the New York School; Pollock, de Kooning, Kline, and the Japanese and Chinese Zen arts. Jazz and the Beat poets have inspired....

John Lynch - Lawrence Buttigieg - "My paintings are a balance of physical form and feeling. I penetrate the character of the person and focus on the inward reflective qualities. I slip my view of the subject between the layers of paint. I want my colours to be the colours of life, rendering likeness and personal stylisation inseparable. I am not concerned with the instantaneous image of the model but rather a prolonged record of his or her character."...

Jorge Arcos - "My art is an expression overflowing, of how I perceive the world. The pallet is usually colorful and with uncontrollable ways, that are merged into an incontrollable world of organic forms. Thanks to my Hispanic heritage, coming from a fully cultural rooted country, my work shows lively and energetic, strong and obsessive. Looking at a world, that it is full of nuances and changes, my focus comes from inner feeling about life. Trough a journey of learning path, my work conveys self-discovery and evolution, communicating to the viewer, my personal viewing and perception of the world around me; quieting mind, and carrying my ideals trough colors and shapes, eluding conformity and traditionalism". "I am an artist because I was born to be one. I couldn't live if I wasn't one. I am alive because I paint. It feeds my soul. My motive to paint is to live and to express every moment of my life and the simple fact of being alive". ...

Selin Melek Aktan - God created world from fire and water. Then looked at the earth,he thought it was looking very empty and made human. TO HAVE A MORE FUN He put the colours on his palette and painted world with them. HE GAVE US THIS EARTH AS A PRESENT Human liked his present and they started to dance GOD LOOKED AT HIS ART He enjoyed what he did. I am a very independent person and probably my paintings are too. I don't paint because of the trend, or mode, I paint because something or somebody fascinates me. It could be nature, a face, a story, an event, colors (especially, I adore strong colors ), a song, an object, my feelings, my thoughts, my dreams: never ending possibilities of improbability. I definitely love beauty. I am trying to express my personal sense of beauty and truth in my paintings. So every painting is different. There is not only one style in which I like to work .I traveled to the four corners of the earth, and each place I visited added to my desire for unique artistic expression.Wherever I went, I found new influences directing my brush strokes or guiding my hands ...

Habib Ayat - i have an immortal passion colour, and composition. I believe the most complex emotions can be evoked from the simpliest of forms. My style explores the relationship between colors shapes and structures living within irrational thoughts and emotions. I begin a piece very spontaneously and become more detailed as the composition starts to show itself. The process involves layering. The first layers are the most erratic and freeform, similar to automatic writing. Paint is applied liberally during this time creating thick textures. I sometimes add other elements like pumice, gels, and collage in these early layers. I notice different characters and forms in the middle of the process, which I then nurture and allow to develop almost at their own will. There comes a point in every painting when I surrender control over to the work, and it decides the rest of the composition. I derive titles in the same spontaneous fashion that the work is created. They are intended to give the painting an identity and character. My color theory, which seems to be the most immediate aspect of my work to the viewer, is very instinctive and unorthodox. In recent years I've been using more neutrals and ...

Mert Ulcay - Mert Ulcay was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1974. After studying to obtain a Bachelor of Economics in Istanbul, he moved to Italy and successfully completed a Masters Degree in International Economics and Management in Milan. He started his painting studies in 1996 with Mehmet Guleryuz (one of Turkey's leading contemporary painters) at his Bilsak Atelier in Istanbul. He moved Sevinc Altan in 2000, who was a former assistant to Mehmet Guleryuz, opening two exhibitions with her atelier. His works were chosen by the Cagdas Sanat Committee in 2001, for an exhibition with other "up and coming artists" at the Contemporary Art Center in Istanbul. In 2003, he participated in the "International Art Action for Peace" exhibition, with several leading painters in Turkey and moved to Stuttgart, Germany, where he now lives and works, painting from his own atelier. Mert Ulcay's paintings can be described as being emotional, somewhat introvert and very figurative. Always being interested in different expressions of people and of hidden feelings shown from behind "the mask". MERT ULCAY- www.mertulcay.com ...

Shannon Russell - Artist Statement I use color like a knife. Segmenting dissecting redefine, constantly searching for what makes a shape or look. What makes something that defines a figure or portrait. What subjects look like? Most of my work is based off of celebrities and figures in the press. All of my subjects come with certain preconceived notions attached and I search these out through the use of color, texture or light. I work in oil paint, specifically for it tonal quality. The pure pigment used with and archival medium, applied to a snow-white ground, achieves a certain level of light penetration that makes my work seem like stain glass in full sunlight. That theme of light penetrating seems to travel throughout my work. Whether I am painting objects or like my most recent work concentrating on figure and portraits. I use light to define the color and to make a skeletal structure to break open the emotional connections of subjects and viewers. If you examine someone and see the colors that dance across their skin as light passes over and through it, you will understand where my painting is coming from. It is just a moment a glance into that ...
