  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Luminita Gliga - My connections with the art are natural and real. I feel lucky that I chose art or art had chosen me in order to express. Thus, painted image is a form of communicating with people. Basically, as a professional artist, I am interested in everything that have direct relevance to contemporary life. My work explores a new world of shapes and colors in a personal composition. The essence of each painting is the connection between the subject matter and myself. My painting more concerns itself with the vague territory between abstraction and the known and seen world. Since I was a student at The Art University in Bucharest I got used to follow some steps from my paintings - a theoretical documentation, sketches and in the end starting the work. Apocalypse, Ephesus, Nestatornik, Autobiography in images, Terravision are some of my experiments of non-figurative paintings using the acrylics. ...

Jan Chlpka - Jan Chlpka - naive imaginism The painter from Hlozany (Vojvodina, Serbia) Jan Chlpka (1965) belongs to our best and most original painters of naive art today. To poetics of inset imaginism tied him his increased imagination. As a result such an orientation we can find a reduced space of painting without any unnecessary details and expressed expressive stylization of shapes. He also uses colors in accordance with inter and not mimetic meaning. The most frequent themes of his painting creation are animals, which is natural while his occupation is veterinary surgeon. Here we can notice other rare component of painter's creation - humor. Vladimir Valentik, art historian...

Lucia Gomez - My paintings express metaphysical symbolism and shamanic themes derived from many cultures, including those of Central and South America, Australia, and the Far East. Forms flow without much planning, giving way to imagined cities and labyrinths full of mystery and color that emerge from a state of mental relaxation. Geometric lines and a search for deeper knowledge lead to intricate passages and mysterious corners. In the recent series Elemental Fragments , Secret Passages, Ritual, and Ancestral static figures, depicted through subtle marks and sudden color blobs, are introduced into the paintings, representing the "ancestors" from each setting, who are simply involved in the act of observing. Such passages and corners give the viewers the possibility of also observing, asking them to bring to each painting their own perceptions, interpretations, impressions and conclusions. ...

Anne Bradford - ARTIST STATEMENT 7121 My paintings tell a story in pictures with images that are realistic, abstract, or a combination of both. In many paintings, I have mixed different elements together, i.e. architectural details with still life, giant plants with graphics, landscapes that are abstracted or images borrowed from art history with fabric designs. Its like a collage of mix and match that somehow all work together. When realism is involved, I generally work from my own photos, either directly, or after they have been altered on the computer. The final version is then transferred onto canvas either by projection or drawn to scale, then painted in oils or water mixable oils. Abstract paintings might evolve spontaneously out of landscapes as I am painting them or from the very start with no preconceived notion, just an explosion of emotion in color. ...

Claudia Kleefeld - I hold my Bachelor of the Arts from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles and a Post Graduate degree from The Byam Shaw College. Painting, drawing and photography are my primary medium also focused in video, performance and text. Fascinated by people and culture, I examine the voice of the individual and how it correlates with our external world. Much of my work is 'unfolding the dream'; softening the lines between art in it's physical form, and what is alive, while recognizing the intangible (or that which comes to us from outside of our understanding of the physical world). Throughout many years of this process, the symbols of daily life and those used in classical iconography have become a poignant aspect of my imagery. My current works connect the individual's journey and the external world together through nature's poignant symbol, the spiral. I use this form to exemplify the workings of our Universe in my drawings, paintings and in a multi media based exhibition. I am currently a resident of Albuquerque, and have lived in Taos since 1994. I exhibit Nationally and Internationally, and my works are held in numerous museum and significant private collections. ...
