  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Barry Wolfryd - The Art of Cultural Idealism Icons, symbols and objects, established or reinvented permit us to define our relationship with the surroundings in which we are born, live, play, work and die in. They are the means to look intently at reality. In my own work I use them to try and come up with understandings by crossing the borders between popular culture and the moral values embedded in it. . For me, juxtaposing familiar pop art icons against one another helps fortify fascination (and repulsion) with many of the empty idealisms in today's world. In this way my canvases become the narrative of us. The icons and objects in my work are part of a larger internalization, also exposing what is evident and unpredictable. The paintings also demonstrate how art is capable of revealing to us the ironies that we are encompassed in. Even though I explore distinctive themes, the bases for all the work is elaborated with elements, symbols and icons that we recognize consciously or intuitively, recognizable icons of societies and cultures across the globe. They are a chain of popular images that identifies "culture." Human history is a common story and because of this we share the ...

Misha Priorov - Artist's Statement Mikhail Priorov Born in Yaroslavl (Russia) in 1959, Mikhail Priorov studied at the Art School from 1973 to 1977 and graduated from Moscow Art College in 1982. He pursued his artistic training at the famous Stroganoff Art University, graduating in 1987 when he began to work at the Zagorsk Artistic Fund. That same year Mikhail joined the International Federation of Artists. Since 1981 Priorov has participated in numerous local, national and international exhibitions. Solo exhibitions include Moscow House of Cinema in 2004; Mosfilm in 2003; International federation of Artists (UNESCO) in 2000; Moscow International Cinema Festival in 1999; Gallery ACTION, Moscow in 1998; Moscow Artists on TV, also in 1998; Noise Club in 1997, as well as RT Gallery for the Arts and the Winter Nights Festival. In 1996 he showed at the Russian Division of Culture; in 1995 at Chaffee Center, Vermont, USA; and in 1993 at Chasse Loup-Laubat 17, Paris. In 1987 he began combining painting with tapestry design and mural work. A considerable part of his work is devoted to musical cycles, totaling thousands of pieces no two of which can be called identical. No matter how many times the artist returns to ...

Al Shaikh Aldaw - My artworks are usually a composition of crowded figurative such as dancing , parties ,or downtown's streets searching for movement , also I like working on landscapes . women are my lovely items , using an impressionist style .Moreover I paint abstract and Islamic abstract using Islamic decorative symbol ...

Ivan Trollip - After completing High School I was called up to do my compulsary military training for 2 years. When this was done I found employment as a visual merchandiser for a couple of years at a chain of depatmental stores.I then went freelance and specialised in ladies fashion and this lasted another few years.I then got involved with garden landscaping that resulted in my own landscape bussiness for the next few years until 1988 when I attended an art coarse with a leading Artist in South Afica at the time. This was life changing for me.From my earliest recolections I have always been drawing and painting and I knew this is what I am supposed to do.IN 1999 I closed my landscaping bussinss and I have been painting ever scince.I tend to paint in series and prefer to spend a lot of time with each painting I create.I try as best I can to be in my Studio every day from Monday trough to Friday for an average of about 5-8 hours.Somehow there is alays something that needs doing. For me the most important thing is getting started once you begin working the ...

Wayne Salvatore - For me, painting can be a simple thing; an elaboration, an exploration. Most often I select colors and apply them in ways that interest me. The challenge is to keep the work alive, interesting, and meaningful. It is a kind of dance or a balancing act. Sometimes I have an idea before I begin: a pre-selected color pairing, a dream, something that I've read, an experience. It may be a response to another artist's work. In the end, each painting is a small journey in its own right. Painting has and continues to mean more to me than any other part of my expressive life and I am so grateful to have found this medium which allows me to dialogue with artists past and present as well as my faithful viewers and most of all to continue my own journey....

Antony Zito - There is a process of collecting artifacts, an archaeological connection to the recent past, which occurs in the searching eye. Decorative and functional objects declared useless or undesirable are resurrected from their possible doom to become a crucial element in a work of art. With forethought to the making of a painting, these artifacts are selected for their material function as a picture plane and their ability to suggest narrative. This is the intersection of object and illusion. As one who describes the world around him, an artist, as well as anyone else, is intrigued by the complexity of his own physiognomy. The portrait is a study of the face; an illusion depicting our most primitive and most effective instrument of communication. The face houses the sensory organs which, when viewed externally, express ideas so complex and intuitive that words fall short of describing them. The manner in which a person uses his or her facial features on a daily basis becomes a representation of that individual's mind or persona, as perceived by the senses of another. A portrait records the process of collecting the visual information evident in one's face through formal academic methods and unconscious decision-...

Alexander Sadoyan - My paintings are inspired from the human life in conjunction with landscape of nature's abstract color-forms.With association of color and shapes,I strive to communicate my feelings and convey inner-personal emotions.Memories, experiences are the essence of my esthetical awareness which find visual language of there own inseparable from the future and exists into absolution....
