  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Kathryn Arnold - Artist Statement Kathryn Arnold c2021 My work contains two intertwining veins. One is filled with large, colorful oils on canvas. The other are my drawings which are black and white mixed media works on paper. Both display the density and layered mark-making that points to my process and content. The work is a result of intuitive nonobjective processes and contains my search for visual magic. The sense of touch and chaotic energy of color and marks play an important role in building up layers that function to create an encompassing, enveloping field and bewildering space. Sometimes there is an introduction of a grid-like form with recognizable imagery playing upon it. These become reference points and their intrinsic relating form poetry, a type of interplay between subjective and objective reality. from Ginsberg Howl ...and who therefore ran through the icy streets obsessed witha sudden flash of the alchemy... James Johnson - The basis of my work is the exploration of universal patterns of being common to everyone such as shadow, hero, or trickster. My interest in patterns of being is a fascination that we all share common behaviors or emotions that can be understood singularly. Each pattern of being may be expressed as a figurative sculpture of hand cast aluminum alloy at half-life scale. Patterns of being may be referenced with Jungian archetypes. My hope is to make patterns of being more visible and tangible. Deject Selected as Best in show at the 2021 Piccolo Spoleto Art Exhibition ...

Usha Kolpe - Statement of Artist Usha Kolpe An individual artist explores and gives the world a view of their personal heightened awareness. I visualize and think with keen beliefs and insights. Thought process which is highly private, subjective, unfiltered are revealed through expression and an attempt made to reveal in canvas. My art is mainly inspired by nature and my surroundings. Nature is emotionally restorative to me. It gives a sense of renewal that paves the way for my self-reflections within me and outside surroundings, for my personal growth, and spiritual evolution. NatureaEURtms changes and events profoundly healing effect just like dawn rolls out after night, spring after winter pleasure and pain of every seasonal events that heal the wounds of life events some time with scar or without scar. These events transformation into meaningful new light and beautiful dimensions to life resulting in resilience, defiance and reverence to all life forms. Lifeforce resourceful elements, water, air, fire, space, earth, sun, moon, planets, stars, their transformation to mountains, rivers, lakes, clouds, plants, animals, the gifts endowed to human life. Nature constantly nurturing, dynamically changing, transforming, each having its own energy and radiance with the harmony of mystic mist. The same ...

Ben Hotchkiss - My name is Ben Hotchkiss. I am 75 years old and have been painting abstract paintings for over 40 years. My interest in art germinated in my fathers studio when I was very young. I used to watch him paint. Often, while watching him paint I would thumb thru his bools on earlier painters of the 20th Century. I especially liked those of the Expressionists,Imressionists,Cubists and Abstract Painters. I was expecially intrigued by the color plates of abstract artists. They did not depect anythingwhat did they mean. But I didnt really begin painting for another 20 years when I was down and out in a rooming house in San Francisco. I actually started doing abstract water colors . In 1980 I moved to Northampton, Ma. and discovered an Art Supply store near by. At this point I had an inspiration to switch from water colors to oils. i started on a shoe string with canvas boards, Duro oil paints and small brushes. I am still painting to this day but on masonite now. I have always been a student of visual expression. I especially like compositions of thingsi.e. many visual en entities working together to create a composite ...

David Larkins - Ii?1/2ve always been intrigued by the luminosity and transparencies found in watercolor, Oil and acrylic mediums. I believe an artist must experience the painting i?1/2 to absorb the surroundings, the atmosphere, to have a oneness with the subject matter before the first brush stroke is applied. My style is described as i?1/2Abstract Realismi?1/2 and my strength is found in the composition. Ii?1/2m drawn to diverse subject matter that challenges the viewer to see abstraction in the ordinary i?1/2 to meld the i?1/2reali?1/2 world with the i?1/2abstracti?1/2. ...

Donna Gallant - Art is a daily routine in my life. I see, hear, taste, feel and smell the life that surrounds me and I am inspired by the simplest aspects of this world. Whether it be the way the light hits an object or the way objects or forms move in space. I find it all so fascinating and alive. I try to portray these experiences and expressions through my art making....

Daniel Clarke - Daniel E. Clarke is a Los Angeles Native who has been painting his entire career in the Los Angeles area. His art education has included studying under the internationally famous Timothy Clark, UCLA Extension University, and Glendale College. He has explored both pictorial and abstract designs but is dedicated to a free flow of color and dynamic composition. Mr. Clarke has concentrated on the acrylic and watercolor medium, and paints on location in his Los Angeles based studio. Kichung Lizee - After coming to this country from Korea in the mid 60's to study art, among the many forms of Western art that I was introduced to, Abstract Expressionism interested me most. Currently I am in the process of synthesizing Eastern and Western approaches to art. Specifically, I'm adopting the techniques and materials of Eastern calligraphy to Western thematic material, my primary goal being to close the gap between East and West and reach for universal creativity. Eastern calligraphy I learned is a living and breathing spirit, rather than the dead and rigid tradition of thousands of years. It is uniquely a form that conveys the pulsation of life energy. Through it, one can experience all aspects of the living spectrum. Eastern calligraphic form reveals the kind of life the artist has led, as well as foreshadowing the person one will become. It is the art form that manifests the self as a way of life or philosophy of life. It is a powerful art form that operates through direct intuition. As an artist I rely heavily on creative intuition. Moving with changes in the stream of consciousness, my creative intuition somehow brings out the subconscious and superconscious through ...

Kichung Lizee - Valda Fitzpatrick - In earlier years, my dream was to become a doctor, or an artist, unfortunately I was unable to tolerate the site of blood. In order to save the patents , I made a wise decision to study art . I love every aspect of art and explore with all medias. my favorite is the French artist Monet, who was my inspiration with his incredible impressionistic style which I love to paint with oils. For a change , designing contemporary art with paper, ,interesting found objects to let my imagination go. When I am in my large studio I am in heaven. When I was still a student , I went to many art shows and did commissions. Which I financed 1 000 percent of my college expenses, and my own studios , which my husband build through the sale of my art work, a career experience that demonstrates the great practical worth of art studies and education. EDUCATION The Ohio State University , master of Arts, Supervision and Education Administration, December 1986 . The Ohio State University, Bachelor of art Education , August 1980 . The Ohio State University, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Painting And Drawing, June 1978. I further followed up my education at the Columbus of Art ...

An artist should learn while observing, exploring and inventing. While subject matter is important, it should remain subservient to these ELEMENTS. MY WEBSITES:
