Artists Describing Their Art:
Tatyana Leksikova - Painting is something I really love to do. Now it is the most important part of my life. I love colors, enjoy playing with them, mixing them, putting them together. I feel them like music. And the main thing I would like to express in my work is that the life is full of the beautiful moments. I hope people enjoy my paintings as much as I do creating them. ...

Jacinta Crowley_Long - Living surrounded by her animals in Wicklow, Ireland, this professional artist has a deserved reputation as Irelands foremost contemporary canine and equestrian artist. An award winning full time professional artist, Jacinta graduated with a PhD from University College, Cork and now has both a national and international reputation for her paintings of rural landscapes, country life, period interiors and equine and dog studies. She lives in and works from an 18th century country rectory in the heart of Wicklow. Her subject matter depicts the genteel splendour, pursuits and often eccentricities of Irelands surviving country houses and demesnes. She has been selected in recent years to exhibit at the prestigious International Exhibition of Equestrian Art at both Chisties and the Mall Galleries, London. This exhibition is staged annually to showcase the work of the best of International Equine artists. The empathy she clearly has for her subjects, allied with her technical ability, knowledge of anatomy and acute observation can be seen in her evocative paintings of animals and country artifacts - all drawn from the farmyard, gardens and fields surrounding her home. Her landscapes portray an other-worldly atmosphere of moments caught in time and depict anachronistic experiences and a way of...

Nick Pike - ARTIST STATEMENT I recreate everyday urban life into striking scenes, using vibrant colours and stirring movements. Walking everwhere with my eyes open to possible settings, I look to find stories to embellish. Having a strong passion for music and a way it interacts with the mood of the painting, I often create soundtracks to the pieces I'm working on, which also encourages spontaneity. I used to concern myself with making everthing perfect, yet emotions and moods are made of something much more raw. I started to use pallette knives and frayed brushes to lure me in a more expressionist mode. I love it when I'm painting a figure from careful observation and it turns into someone I know and thinking of their characteristics alters the picture. Since moving to the country, I created a body of work immersed in nature greens to seek calm and solitude which I'd been craving for years. Now visiting towns and cities fills me with a renewed curiosity, seeing with the fresh eyes of a tourist. When I find the perfect place, I sketch and take a series of photographs in succession of my 180 degree view, with people moving in and ...
Antoaneta Hillman - Whatever lies beneath my desire to paint, I am thankful that it exists and gives my life direction. LeonardoOs words, that painting is a poetry that is seen rather than heart, are reflected in my attitude towards painting. I put the continuity of the idea, the new image of form and the transformation of reality in to a new world at the start of every work. Shagall, Van Gogh, Dali and Klimt, are the artists that have a major influence on me. I can say that admiration of the great artists is the first step on the road to art. To me, people who understand and enjoy art are blessed to be a part of an artistOs happines and sorrow, to share his ideas and thoughts. I am saving my dreams on canvas for them. When these dreams become paintings they donOt belong to me anymore. They are my messengers. To find the poetry, decode the color. ...
Jerry Ross - Manifesto of American Verismo By Jerry Ross, 2012 "American verismo", a movement that I have recently founded, is a catch-all phrase for an artistic style that draws its main inspiration from Italian art, both classical and modern. There is an implied nostalgia for work done "dal vero" (after life) whether classical (Raphael, Rubens, or Caravaggio, etc.) or 19th century (the Tuscan I Macchiaioli school) or more contemporary. Verismo is somewhat akin to contemporary "atelier realism" but the latter has been criticized for an academic uniformity and its over attention to details. American verismo is more poetic and linked to post-impressionism, the Milan-based Scapigliatura ('wild hair') movement, and the I Machiaioli's commitment to social issues. But like atelier realism, American verismo is associated with a painterly sketching style, use of broad brushstrokes, and the alla prima, "direct attack" technique of painting. It is also linked to all'aperto (open air) impressionist-style landscape painting. In short, to pleinairism which has become widely popular in recent years. I first introduced the term during several classes he taught at the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene and then later at the "Angels Fight Road Art Center" plein air retreat...
Monica Mackenzie - Artist Statement It is my belief that the more one culture knows about another culture, the more tolerance and understanding they will feel. I firm believe that Art nourishes and heals the mind and the soul of individuals. Creating art is for me a humbling experience that has always pushed me to new levels of creativity and invention. The respect I have to each of my work challenges me to paint each work as an individual with its own character. My style is passion and respect to each piece, giving each work the personality, quality that deserves. I want to share a positive message in order to inspire, educate and empower the public. Sometimes my art pieces are pure emotion and sometimes are cerebral and challenging. My love to Physical Anthropology and art are combined in my works. Art is for me as essential as air, transforms me, nourishes my soul, it is a positive extraordinary experience I do believe can transform others. Creating works based on pre-columbian legends and aesthetics. Metaphysics and research in Mexican artisans work. Researching thru mythical Aztec and Mayan points of view, influenced by Goya's, Carlos Castaneda, Octavio Paz and Sor Juana Ines ...
Lou Armentrout - LIFE WAS SIMPLER THERE, in the little Ohio village of Hanover in Licking County, where Lou Armentrout was raised. Swimming in the river, roaming the green hills of Ohio, Lou fell in love with nature; from the beginning its beauty was his passion. Capturing it in art has been his life long quest. Getting a B.F.A. in art education from Ohio U. in 1971 and a M.F.A. from Ohio State U. in art education in 1977 taught him a great deal, but not about painting nature. As a teacher for thirty-five years, he nurtured his students' love of beauty. In addition he taught himself by collecting. Amassing hundreds of paintings (mostly historic Ohio Impressionists), he found in their content, some of the unspoiled beauty of his youth. From their style, he has formed his own: one filled with light and color. When he moved to California, he fell in love all over again but more. His love expanded when he became a docent at the Palm Springs Art Museum. California is GOLDEN in so many different ways! His happy heart is flourishing in the brightness; his paintings are becoming even richer in color, radiant with ...

Ross Jahnig - Artist Statment I have always been involved in the Arts. I think that having this gift of being creative is one of the most important aspects of my life. I like the idea that something positive can come from the spirit and be made real, to be shared with others. My idea of good art is art that has a positive effect on the viewer in a way that makes for a better mood. ...
Monica Deac - My art work is a result of a strong impact of the North Western American culture on my Eastern European memories. My inspiration is rooted in my childhood, when I spent lots of time with my grand parents in a small village in Transylvania, Romania. Growing up, I learned to love the country's old artistic sites. I discovered fascinating rituals consisting of simple pattern repetitions. Surprisingly, these rituals create a world that is placed somewhere out of the temporal dimension. All of these left indelible impressions in my soul. For me the process of painting is of utmost significance. My work is abstract in nature and contains close ups of traditional patterns used in folk art. Through repetition of these elements I create textural, abstract effects that convey the rhythmic play of colour energies. Vibrant colours signify the vitality of the traditional rituals and ultimately portray the vivid, passionate pulse of life. I use folk patterns in my art because they represent concepts like infinity, harmony and simplicity, thus revealing a balanced yet dynamic day to day life. Some pieces feel symbolic and celebratory of the joy of life while others invite the viewer to meditate and surrender to...
