  • Artists Describing Their Art:

Terry Matarelli - My life is all about process. It's the getting there that interests me. My art is similar in that I like the process of making something from nothing. I've spent years landscaping and building a cabin in the woods, as well as doing artwork, and I love taking a bare piece of nothingness and making it something, walk away and don't look back. I strive for a nice finished product, but it's the getting there that keeps me going. I'm not interested in pretty. Be real. Painting is paint on a surface. Any materials, for that matter, have their own essential being, and bring that spirit to the work. I look for that material to speak to me, say something to the viewer, and say whatever it wants. My work is mostly figure ground relationships. I've been drawn to the figure all my life. I'm interested in the drama of life and living, and the endless possibilities of the interaction or isolation we encounter. I'm not looking to represent surface reality, but rather emotional or spiritual reality. I want to get under the skin and see what's going on. I like...

Lohith Kesarmadhu - About Me For me art was a childhood experience, in time during a busy schedule in the advertising empire as it was in college of Management too, creativity had become an essence and a passion. This passion for art made me live life twice. College and work had made me immensely busy even to think of doing any other work. But life showed me to adopt art seriously after a very tragic accident. A spinal cord injury which made me immobile for years. Things still didn't change a lot since then. Being a quadriplegic it was that time I saw life in its own way in which I had missed out on a lot of simple thing's as we all do. Still, hope made me hold the brush and the journey began through the canvas of life once again. For at that time every simple moment had become a mere measure of enhancement. For me Life, loneliness and transcendence had actually become subject's of my painting's. As we all know a human being is neither perfect like God, nor ignorant like an animal. Humans, who are caught in this boundary of the two extremes, exist incompletely. ...

Ellen Spencer - ARTIST'S STATEMENT Ellen Spencer is a well known artist and longtime environmental activist. Her work reflects her passion in the celebration of life, women's/children's health and its connection to our environment. Ellen is originally from the Boston area, but has been residing in the San Francisco bay area for the past ten years. She currently has her studio in Oakland, California. She has spent many years successfully exhibiting and selling her works throughout the United States and has received numerous awards. She is currently represented by 57th Street Gallery in Oakland, CA, ArtWorks in San Francisco, Artist Alley Gallery in San Francisco, Agora Gallery in New York and Marziart International Gallery in Hamburg, Germany. As an artist and an activist, my work represents the strength and unity inherent in the human spirit. These paintings are part of several different series about women, health and the environment. They celebrate what is possible when people come together as one. Each painting has a feeling of its own and is done in different mediums. The colors are vivid and rich reflecting the myriad ...

Nini Larranaga - I'm Nini and lets talk about art... I can't remember when was the first time art jumped inside me. Maybe when I was still in my mother's womb. All of my sences are related to art. I breath art, that is the air that maintains me alive. I really think that art is inside of every single being, you only have to be perseptive just to know it exists in everything. You can make it happen, just like magic. I always have drawn and paint, but life gave me the stone I stepped through to realize that there were other artists and that I had to study. I did enjoy reading their lives at first, and then study them. The more I knew, the more I feel that I really don't know enough. So... Study, study, study. Never ends. Life to me is a whole study in every way. Trial and error. The thing is to stand up again and doing it better trying to improve yourself. My painting is most of all authobiographical. That is what everyone who knows me say. I have to thank so many people that in one way or the other ...

Timea Farkas - All my art adheres to one basic rule: LOVE is the greatest ART above all. I am inspired by my positive emotions and fantasies. If my paintings can still the wiewer's mind and will provide peace and harmony to all by helping them to feel the divine presence of love in everything around us, I believe my work is not in vain. I hope you enjoy wiewing and look forward to receiving your comments in my guestbook. ...

Georgina Love - I paint because I love to. You will not find "distilled images resonating with the inner angst of the human" on my site. Shallow? Perhaps. I firmly believe, however, there is nothing wrong with simply being inspired and painting in spite of what "they" say. I have found that such works are very successful, moreover, they do ultimately speak to the viewer who is then free to attach meaning to my work or simply own it because they love it. My latest inspiration was a trompe l'oeil exhibit. It was a number of years ago I saw it, but at that time decided the genre appealed to me. Painting is nothing but illusion, and creating these illusions are especially --- FUN! My website, paintedskye.com has a selection of my classical horse portraits along with the new trompe l'eoil works. Commissions are welcome. Visit and enjoy! ...

Carole Wilson - The inspiration for my images comes from meditation, dreams, and hypnogogic imagery; creating a healing, helpful presence wherever the art is placed is my goal. To that end, my intention is to create art that is visually stimulating, both overtly and on a subtle energetic level. As colors and shapes affect mood in powerful ways, I seek to evoke a joyful, uplifting response in the viewer. There is an underlying pure and positive force that can be expressed through the visual medium of painting, that is at once mysterious and yet accessible to human consciousness. Channeling this energy through paint and canvas is the purpose behind my work....

Mr Wynne has exhibited in Thailand, the United States, Spain, Argentina, Kuwait, Korea, Ihdia, and other Countries. For your information I've lived in 8 different countries and have been around the world 5 times. I speak a few different languages, some very well; others not so well. By the way I am not a workaholic as I don't consider what I do work. I enjoy life too much. I forgot to say I am also a weight lifter as lifting weights is my Zen. When I am troubled the concentration it takes to lift makes me calm. I guess my page will probably be a little different from what people expect. Sorry I have not been uploading new work as ...

David Rycroft - "De ses tableaux, en partie inspires de la calligraphie zen, se degage en effet une grande impression de serenite." Midi Libre "The works in David Rycroft's'Peace and Inspiration' series are the product of a technical breakthrough, which has unlimited potential. Whether their imagery suggests landscape or organic forms, these'unpainted' pictures evoke a cosmic dimension, which is truly liberating." Richard Calvocoressi Director, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art ...

Jose Garcia - Jose Garcia is a contemporary abstract painter from Lima - Peru (South America). Working with acrylic paints and traditional methods, he creates textures, movement and irregular shapes by using strong colors. He gives his images patterns and textures that fully express his artistic creativity. The form, color, and textures of my artwork send images of emotions that can be interpreted through the simplest forms. I begin an abstract painting quickly and it becomes more detailed as the composition starts to shape itself. ...

Dana Zivanovits - Dana Zivanovits was born in 1958 in Columbus, Ohio and received his art training from the Columbus College of Art and Design (1978 to 1982). After art school, he went abroad for a year and studied the art of the old masters in London, Paris, Madrid, Rome and Venice. Returning to his studio in Columbus to develop these influences into a new body of work, he then traveled to Mexico and studied the sculpture and painting of that country for an extended period. The unique and vivid colors of Palenque and Vera Cruz intensified his palette. After a period in Ohio, he then moved to Venice Beach, California where the brilliant light of the region reinforced his desire to capture effects of sunlight and atmosphere. Returning to Ohio in 1995, he has continued to paint themes deriving inspiration form sources such as world mythology, classic and B-grade cinema, literature and dreams. However his primary inspiration is direct observation from nature, versus an approach based in art theories or cultural critique. Dana has been widely represented by galleries and exhibition projects including Julie Rico and Mega Boom in Los Angeles, the Venice Art Detour, Around the Coyote Festival in Chicago ...
