Artwork Description:
The historic ghost town in Fayette along the Big Bay DeNoc located in Michigan’s UP is an old iron smelting town from the 1870’s.
The preserved town still has some of the charcoal making kilns standing, which once numbered more than eighty, feed the blast furnaces that melted the iron ore into pig iron.
This particular collier’s kiln caught my eye with the new life growing out of the decomposing brick, an allegorical story of new beginnings from old.
