Artwork Description:
This painting is now in the Permanent Collection of THE PHILADELPHIA EPISCOPAL CATHEDRAL, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, (38th and Ludlow Streets). Throughout art hstory, the crucifixion scene has usually been depicted from frontal or side views; I elected to portray the dead Christ as if the viewer (standing directly at the base of the cross) is looking straight up at the face. For this reason, the painting can be hung high over an altar; although, this is not a necessity in the installation process. The work can be viewed in a traditional hanging situation (room, private chapel, museum, office). I strove to achieve a calm scene unfolding within a frame of frantic movement.
